Ross Lovegrove Presents VitrA MOD

EXPO 2007 saw the first UK showing of MOD, Ross Lovegrove's second and much-anticipated VitrA range. VitrA MOD is a flexible range that works with a number of different generic materials to complement contemporary industrial architecture and graphic interior design.

The clean, natural lines and organic shaping of the sanitaryware and accessories belong unmistakeably to Ross Lovegrove who again closely studied production processes to thin down and lighten the ceramic in order to reduce material mass, firing time and ultimately cost. Ross comments:

‘VitrA MOD is not intended as an extension of my previous Istanbul Collection but instead an intelligent modular system with subtle references to the economic everyday use of water. This series is totally versatile and adaptable to most architectural situations, plus compact enough to be a globally practical solution for most cultures. MOD has been designed and developed in order to integrate all ongoing advances in touch with ceramic technologies and to adapt to the needs of different markets worldwide.

‘For example, the main washbasin faucet has a reduced diameter stem in order to cut down on water use and advanced joystick and cartridge mechanisms have been incorporated to balance the proportions of the different core elements to liberate floors and surfaces from extraneous clutter whilst leaving generous space around them.’

On the modular front, Ross chose to replace traditionally heavy pedestal elements with shrouds that are available in different high precision materials (such as Corian, laminate, bamboo, aluminium and stainless steel) and price-points, to suit a spectrum of individual tastes and budgets.
