iF Award for ’living city’ by Laufen

The ‘living city’ range of washbasins by Laufen Bathrooms, the Swiss bathroom specialist, has landed its first design prize almost before being launched.

The washbasin with the 09 decoration - a small note pad on the right-hand side of the ceramic shelf - convinced the prestigious, international panel of the iF Product Design Awards on first sight.

The product combines an integrated ceramic shelf, which gives bathroom users lots of surface space, and an original decoration – a charming way of leaving one's nearest and dearest a fast message in the morning.

The washbasin design was developed by renowned Phoenix Design (Stuttgart/Tokyo) and the note-pad decoration originates from Monica Singer and Marie Rahm of Polka (Vienna).

Apart from the communicative aspect of the washbasin, the panel, in reaching their decision, took account of the high manufacturing quality and functionality of ‘living city’. Also the excellent finish and ergonomics, the degree of innovation and environmental compatibility as well as the brand value played a role in the awarding of the prize. The prize-winning washbasin was one of the Artist Editions of ‘living city’ that involves various decorative motifs prepared by four studios.
