Cooking
Up a Partnership Glen Dimplex and the WI
Merseyside-based Glen Dimplex Home Appliances,
manufacturer of Stoves, Belling, New World and Lec home appliance brands,
has joined forces with the UKs largest womens organisation
the Womens Institute - in a new long-term partnership agreement
aimed at getting more people cooking.
The
partnership was announced at the Womens Institutes AGM last
week, as WI members from across England, Wales and the Islands descended
on Liverpools Echo Arena.
The new collaboration will see the cooker manufacturer and the WI work
together long term on a number of educational projects to get people back
in the kitchen, including the launch of a new cookery school at Denman
College in Oxfordshire.
The cookery school, which will go back to basics to teach people traditional
cooking skills which have been lost over the years, will link together
the expertise of the Womens Institutes members with leading
innovation from Glen Dimplex Home Appliances Stoves brand.
Alongside the cookery school, Glen Dimplex Home Appliances will also work
closely with the Womens Institutes 205,000 members on a number
of initiatives including educational projects, new product innovation
and WI 60th anniversary celebrations.
Denver Hewlett, Chief Executive of Glen Dimplex Home Appliances commented:
'The Womens Institute is world-renowned as the largest voluntary
organisation for women in the UK. Although steeped in history, the WI
is a diverse and radical institution which continues to thrive and innovate,
attracting new members from a wide demographic.
'With people becoming increasingly interested in the quality, nutritional
value and origin of the food that they are eating, in recent years there
has been a huge shift back towards traditional methods of cooking although
these skills have been lost to many.
'This new partnership and the launch of the new cookery school will go
a long way in educating people about how to cook. Both Glen Dimplex Home
Appliances and WI share a wealth of expertise on this subject and brought
together it is sure to be a winning collaboration.
Stephen Hackett, Principal of Denman College commented: 'This is a really
exciting partnership which is set to benefit not only members of the WI
but also people attending the new cookery school. Educating people about
the importance of home cooked food and teaching them new skills is something
that is integral to both the WI and Stoves brand which is why this is
such an ideal collaboration.'
