Originality Shows in Mark Wilkinson's New Shan Gara Kitchen
Mark Wilkinson is well known for the originality of his designs and his latest creation, Shan Gara is already gathering accolades for its originality, but what is it about that design that captured the hearts of the audience at a recent London launch. Shan Gara is a range of furniture for the home that is designed to bring a level of peace and tranquility into our busy lives, Mark Wilkinson is best known for his kitchen furniture and so it was natural that he featured that room first to illustrate the originality of his new range. In terms of the overall design, the range can be fitted kitchen furniture for a single room, just as we have been used to for generations past, but with Shan Gara, thanks to his open design, Wilkinson has freed up the kitchen furniture to be able to serve a number of different living areas within the home. For homeowners, interior designers and architects, this can become almost an en-suite 'kitchen', with facilities such as, say, food warming drawers, wine coolers, serving surfaces, plus crockery & cutlery storage in an en-suite attached to the dining room. Alternately the design can be used to provide a walk-in pantry, or a computer room attached to the kitchen. With Shan Gara, Wilkinson has provided a truly 21st Century design that challenges the way we furnish our homes. 'Simple, uncluttered design is the driving trend in interior design', says Mark Wilkinson. 'That has been the case for almost a decade now and has resulted in the rather tyrannical minimalism that demands we live our lives according to minimalism's need to be tidy. Shan Gara allows us to maintain a degree of uncluttered living, but it takes away the tyranny, it welcomes us into our own homes'. The originality doesn't stop there however and with this new range Mark Wilkinson introduces us to Vellum for the doors and panels and the rich red, teak-like, Chaperno hard wood from Southern America. In detail design work he introduces pull-out wall units to make the design more 'inclusive', while the servo-drive drawers add an extra degree of luxury and also satisfy the demand for furniture that is fully inclusive of all needs.
