Smeg
Cooker is Which? Magazine 'Best Buy'
The
SUK62CMX5 electric double oven Concert Cooker with ceramic hob from Smeg
'topped the charts' in the May issue of Which?, when the highly trusted
publication put twenty four free standing cookers through their paces.
Although the Smeg model, costing around £1000, was the most expensive
cooker tested, the magazine commented that Its top 'Best Buy' status
proves that style can have substance.
The Which? report looked at all types of gas and electric freestanding
models and concluded that cookers with multi-function ovens and
electric ovens with fans distribute heat more evenly and maintain temperature
more accurately than conventional ones.
Which? is renowned for its impartial (the magazine carries no advertising)
and ruthless testing of products, consulting market intelligence reports,
industry experts and online and high street availability. Products are
then put through their paces in exhaustive tests.
All the cookers were evaluated for cake baking (two trays of fairy cakes
baked in each oven to evaluate even heat distribution), toasting (white
bread toasted on the grill trays to see how evenly the heat spreads),
'simmer down' (rice pudding heated on maximum and then left to simmer
to show how well the hobs heat at low temperatures without burning), and
heat probes (temperature probes measure how well ovens maintain the right
temperature).
The SUK62CMX5 topped the test with a 71% score, 3% ahead of its nearest
rival. It was the only model to score five stars on the oven evaluation
test and one of only three cookers to achieve a five star rating for its
grill performance.
