Upward Trend Continues - Screwfix Fourth Quarter Results

Fourth quarter results for Screwfix showed sales growth of 24.0% to £110 million in the 13 weeks ending 2nd February, 2008. The company, which had a 2006/2007 turnover of over £300m, has continued its UK Trade Counter initiative with an additional 13 outlets being opened during the quarter (100 opened as at end February, 2008).

John Colley, Commercial Director at Screwfix, comments 'We are delighted with these results which reflect the efforts that we have put into maintaining our upward growth trend. Our catalogue has expanded by 14% to 1074 pages and, at more than 18,000 products, now includes 20% more products than last year. As well as our focus on more brands, more products and more deals, we have paid particular attention to both listening to and meeting the needs of our customers.

'This has resulted in strong selling categories such as power tools and plumbing, which have been helped by further extensions to our range of boilers and radiators. Our aim is to continue to offer a collection of products that provide the best deals, are the best for task, are best for general trade as well as specific trades, and which represent the new best brands the best product. In other words, we aim to offer simply the best.'

He adds, 'Ensuring a fast, reliable service across each of our multi-channel supply lines has continued to be a priority and, as part of this commitment to our core trade customers, as well as handymen and serious DIY enthusiasts all over the UK, we have continued with our trade counter initiative. A further 13 outlets were opened during the fourth quarter and, following the opening of our 100th Trade Counter in Epsom at the end of February we are now 100 Strong.'
