Retailer Cooks up Parliamentary Discount
Leading
kitchen retailer County Kitchens & Bedrooms is offering a special
Parliamentary discount to Members of Parliament after it was disclosed
that they are allowed to claim up to £10,000 for a new kitchen for
their second homes.
The specialist kitchen firm has also renamed one of its more popular ranges
the Westminster to mark the topical promotion.
The decision came after the Commons released a list used by officials
to approve or reject MPs' expenses claims. It revealed a list of precedents
for spending on household items under the parliamentary second-homes allowance,
which includes up to £10,000 for a new kitchen, more than £6,000
for a bathroom and £750 for a television.
Marketing Manager Paula Morris said:
'Taxpayers are naturally concerned about getting value for money from
their Parliamentary representatives so we have decided to offer a discount
of an extra 10% to the first 20 members of Parliament who purchase a kitchen
from us.
'MPs who decide to take advantage of this generous offer can be assured
that they are making a substantial saving on a top quality customised
kitchen and our prices start from a very competitive £5,000, far
less than the maximum amount they are allowed to claim.
'With three showrooms in Surrey and four in Sussex, located in Camberley,
Esher, Guildford, Hove, Worthing, Horsham and Chichester, we are perfectly
placed to serve MPs with second homes in the commuter belt.
'We think this offer will appeal to MPs who want to demonstrate to their
constituents that they shop around and hunt down the best deals just like
the rest of us!'
