Joos Offers Unique Pressing Advantages

The German press manufacturer Joos has developed features, systems and technologies to give users distinct advantages in terms of performance, product quality, energy efficiency and safety.

All of these apply to the Joos Basic veneer press which is available in two models and in wide use throughout the UK and Ireland - supplied and serviced by exclusive agent Homag UK.

Both models - the Joos Basic 65 and the Joos Basic 70 are both single daylight opening presses (350mm maximum) and driven by 4 cylinders. The Basic 65 has pressing force of 650kN while the Basic 70 has a pressing force of 700kN. The pressing surface dimensions are 2500mm x 1100mm and 2500mm x 1250mm respectively.

So what sets these presses apart from other available makes? Joos says it is the details that matter - in particular the dynamic piston bearings, the electronic control system, the gold anodised platens, the ABS safety system and the optional Ökotherm platen heating system.

The dynamic piston bearing means that even when the press is incorrectly loaded maximum operational safety is guaranteed - Joos doesn't bolt its pistons to the pressing table but rather they dynamically act on a milled contact surface under the pressing table. A column guide prevents the platen from tilting or being displaced. Perfectly synchronised operation is delivered by a high precision toothed rack parallel guidance system.

The electronic control system provides the exact control of commands that Joos says is a pre-condition for perfect veneering. This involves processes like contactor with periodical contact monitoring the safety path; double motor contact with mutual locking; automatic circuit breaker with phase monitoring instead of the screw type retainer.

The gold anodised heating platens make the surface extremely hard so to offer long term protection. The main advantages are no groove build-up, no metal abrasion and reduced separating agent consumption. They also offer shorter operating time and better veneer quality as no adhesive residue remains on the surface.

The Joos ABS safety system means that incorrectly loaded or forgotten parts are registered immediately by micro-sensors which automatically and immediately opens the press. This Joos invention prevents costly damage to the platens and pressing table and the hydraulic system.
Joos says that the ABS system significantly prolongs the operating safety and life of the press.

Users who have spare hot water available from wood burning or other heat sources can opt for the unique Joos Ökotherm heating platen which uses the hot water as a heating platen instead of the alternative electric platen. This system ideally regulates the optimum temperature distribution on the gold platen surface with a maximum temperature of 90° C and significantly reduces energy consumption.

Joos offers a wide range of pressing solutions including simple and complex throughfeed solutions and the mobile Joos Junior press which is mounted on castors and can be positioned anywhere in the workshop. The company also supplies glue spreaders.
