Mark Wilkinson Wins Employer of the Year Award

Company founders Mark & Cynthia Wilkinson of Mark Wilkinson Furniture Ltd., were presented with the south west region Employer of the Year Award by the Learning Skills Council at Sandy Lane Park Stadium in Exeter last month.

The LSC Skills Awards, for medium sized businesses, was hosted by TV Presenter and Explorer Ben Fogle, who said that Mark Wilkinson Furniture's success was due to the company's commitment to its apprentice scheme, which has been in action for over ten years.

‘Based in such a rural area as Bromham and working in a sector that is so highly skills-driven, we learned very early that to be able to continue providing the very best quality of furniture we would need to place a lot of emphasis in training our own skilled people,’ says Mark Wilkinson. ‘To receive the LSC award was a great honour, both for Cynthia and I, as well as for all of our people, who started as Mark Wilkinson Apprentices over the past decade.’

The company has worked with Wiltshire College and City & Guilds to adapt an existing Joinery Skills Course into a Cabinetmaking Course, which Mark Wilkinson Furniture apprentices now follow up to an advanced level NVQ 3.
