REACH for the Skies!

As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental excellence, Shades which is part of the Moores Furniture Group, has initiated a new programme to ensure compliance with European Community Regulations on chemicals and their safe use, known as REACH. As well as reviewing its own chemical use Shades will also be consulting with all its suppliers to establish REACH observance on every level of its production.

The aim of REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances), is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. The REACH regulation gives greater responsibility to businesses to manage the risks from chemicals and to provide safety information on the substances.

As a company Shades takes an extremely positive approach to its environmental policies, the company is a member of both FISP (Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme) and EEAS (The Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme), to name just a few. Shades benefits from Moores' FSC certification which guarantees all its timber has been responsibly managed and the company also has BS EN ISO 14001:2004 accreditation (an internationally recognised environmental management standard). With such a holistic approach to its environmental practices, Shades can look forward to a greener future.
