*The visible surfaces of the built-in washbasins are glazed for an enhanced
appearance.
*The basins are available in four sizes 51, 45, 39 or 34cm and are available

Axor
Citterio - Luxury at Second Glance
The
Axor Citterio line from the Hansgrohe
designer brand Axor sets a new tone for the bathroom as a living space.
Its creator, internationally renowned architect and designer Antonio Citterio,
had the concept 'richness in design' in mind.
But what does this mean? With Axor Citterio, Antonio Citterio summarises
the important focal values of his high-end line for the bathroom with
the following points:
* Brilliance, embodied through gleaming, extensive, perfectly-crafted
surfaces,
* Clarity, achieved with a universal and precise utilisation of edges,
* Top design and production quality down to the last detail: Every joint,
surface and transitional area captivates with harmonic resolution where
round and rectangular meet.
Altogether, 70 individual products fall under the Axor Citterio label:
* Mixers for basins, bidets, bathtubs and showers: all in the characteristic
rectangular shape adapted to the functionality of the single-lever basin
mixer, the 3-hole basin mixer with cross and lever handles and countertop
base, and the 4-hole bath rim mixer set, respectively.
* Overhead showers with corresponding concealed fittings, or the exposed
shower system, that as a 'showerpipe' subsequently provides the bathroom
with its own distinctive tone.
All Axor Citterio products are not only available in Chrome but also,
for the first time in the Axor line, with an electroplated platinum finish
- the same genuine platinum (Pt) used in high-quality jewellery.
The chrome or platinum-plated metal countertop base under the 3-hole basin
mixer with cross and lever handles is a distinctive characteristic of
the Axor Citterio line.
Citterio's thinking about spaces and not just individual products led
to the development of products in the Axor Citterio line beyond what was
already offered in the existing product lines. The detail of the line's
presentation finds its counterpart in the plumbing appliances. The geometric
design of the fixtures combined with the bathtub cast from high-quality,
softly lustrous minerals work together to create one integrated system.
Especially interesting is the direct connection between the basin and
the bathtub. This idea uses space optimally and gives the individual bathroom
new form and functions.

Systems Helps Design and Build Dream Bathrooms
A
waterproofing and insulating tile backing system that allows you to design
and build bathrooms exactly how your customers want them is available
from wedi Systems (UK) Ltd. As well
as standard units, wedi allows the flexibility to build to any specification
and design, including walk-in shower and wet floor concepts using wedi's
popular and versatile 'Fundo' system.
wedi
Tilebacker Board and Fundo (pictured) have excellent insulation characteristics,
and are waterproof, giving architects, designers and builders greater
freedom, whilst complying with ever more stringent building regulations
and overcoming the limitations of other materials.
wedi's Managing Director Ian Fyfe explained: 'wedi Tilebacker Board has
long been recognised for its superior waterproofing and insulation characteristics,
and has become a first choice solution for tiled walls in both domestic
and commercial bathrooms and other wet areas. However, self-builders,
specifiers and designers are now beginning to recognise that the appeal
of wedi Board does not stop there.
'Without the need for timber frame support, wedi Board is strong enough
and flexible enough to be the ideal material for creating bathroom features,
such as bath settings, shower cubicles, walk-in showers, vanity units,
wash stands and shower partition walls, all of which can be built to individual
specifications and designs.'
Further help and guidance is available from wedi Systems' website, http://www.wedi.co.uk,
which demonstrates how to work with the material and shows just how versatile
it can be. Step-by-step instructions help even the least experienced,
and much other useful information is available on-line.
wedi Tilebacker is the only product of its type with British Board of

Geberit
Mambo Design Range for Public Sanitary Facilities
When we use public sanitary facilities we would like to feel as comfortable
as we feel at home. Geberits
products offer functional design, a level of user comfort, security and
aesthetics, as well as catering for the needs of the elderly and disabled.
People are only happy to use public sanitary facilities when these are
clean and well maintained. However that is not enough to make them optically
appealing. That is why Geberit has launched activation and cover plates
in the consistent design of the Mambo range. What counts in the design
of public sanitary facilities is not temporary fashion trends, but permanent
aesthetics and quality. This means that when deciding on what material
to use, Geberits choice had to be stainless steel.
Geberit
Mambo Urinal controllers:
In the Mambo range of products the innovation in the electronic control
of urinals is the ability to programme to the 1 litre urinal flush technology.
The flush time is four seconds, so that at a minimal flow pressure of
2 bar the volume of water used is just 1 litre. An infra-red sensor registers
the presence of the user, as soon as he or she enters the control area.
In addition to urinal controls with infra-red activation, pneumatic hand-activated
urinal controls are also available in the corresponding Mambo design.
Geberit Mambo WC-Controls:
For WC-control applications Geberit has a range of products in the Mambo
design. It corresponds perfectly with the covers of the urinal controls.
In public and semi-public areas they provide comfortable remote activation
and automatic toilet flushing. The Geberit Mambo activation plate
made out of brushed stainless steel for screw fixing meets the
demands of looking good and is also vandalism proof. In facilities that
are used regularly by different people, this guarantees cleanliness and
hygiene.
Geberits no touch wash basin fittings:
They react in an instant thanks to the dual beam sensor technology. The
two infra-red sensors recognise instantly when a user holds his or her
hands under the tap. The water begins to flow immediately. Quickly, without
delay. And the water does not flow for longer than is required by the
user.

Colour
in the Bathroom Continues to Grow

with two new additions being exhibited for the first time at Expo 2003
(Stand 1131).
The new Bath Shower Mixer with integral diverter hand-set together with
the Pillar Bath Filler make Flute a more comprehensive range. In so doing
it becomes a far more attractive and viable option for those seeking a
luxury domestic bath or wet room.

Barrier-Free Bathrooms for Increased Independence and Quality of Life
The
German Federal Office of Statistics forecasts that by 2010 the number
of people over 65 will increase by another 3 million to stand at over
20 percent of the population. The house-building sector still fails to
give sufficient recognition to this trend. When designing sanitary facilities
it is easy to provide for features to ensure mobility and independence
and at minimal financial cost. This is where Geberit offers intelligent
solutions.
Installing
comfortable bathroom suites with a high level of additional functionality
Barrier-free bathrooms suites have an ideal lay out with room to move
and a slip resistant floor covering. All sanitary fixtures are positioned
ergonomically and the step free shower and wash area is designed to give
more space than in a conventional bathroom. Providing that it is considered
at the planning stage, a barrier-free bathroom is quick and easy to construct
at no great cost.
Geberits installation technology enables provision to be made for
aids such as shower seats or hinged grab rails to be installed either
at the same time or at a later date, as required, in terms of a trouble
free refit. Non-conventional room design is possible with Geberits
GIS or Duofix, including, for example, free standing walls or room partitions.
Installation of the necessary mounting plates behind the tiled surface
presents no real problem. Indeed there is no comparison to the enormous
scale of the construction work required to retrofit the bathroom at considerable
cost, were these special mounting plates not to be fitted.
For all age and user groups
Barrier-free bathroom design enables all age and user groups to use the
facilities, appropriate to particular need and in comfort. This is because
barrier-free bathrooms are especially designed to be personal and homely
and, given that they are designed intelligently, also to have optimal
functionality.

A
Beautiful Sonnet from Impulse
'Sonnet'
is the latest in the line up of designs in the Impulse
range of sanitary ware from Birmingham-based Mandarin
Building Products.
It has a contemporary appearance that meets the current market demand
for smooth lines and styles.
The Sonnet 550mm basin will enhance any modern bathroom, and is available
with either one or two tap holes. It can be mounted on its bespoke floor
pedestal or a semi-pedestal for additional design flexibility.
Likewise the Sonnet floor mounted pan has a close coupled, push button
dual flush cistern with a 6/3 litre flush capacity for water saving economy.
Gary Hawkins, Mandarin's General Manager feels sure that Sonnet will be
a winner. 'Sonnet is one the most advanced designs on the market,' he
said. 'It has beautiful clean curves, eye catching lines and a presence
that will complement any bathroom.
'As with all Impulse products the price level is sensibly set and gives
the retailer the opportunity to customise and realise good margins. Our
quality is excellent and the diversity of styles in the Impulse range
means that we can meet all market demands.'
Sonnet will be available in white and pergammon.
The popularity of Mandarin's Impulse range has grown year on year - as
has its reputation. The company has had to move to larger premises twice
since its establishment in the UK and is now located in a large warehouse
just half a mile from the M6, which is logistically ideal for the countrywide
distribution of the range.
Axor
Uno Wall Mounted Basin Mixer with Joystick Cartridge
Two
years ago, when the designer brand Axor by Hansgrohe introduced the new
Axor Uno fixtures line the staff in Schiltach believed that with a good
60 individual products available in chrome and satinox finishes, Axor
Uno left no desire unfulfilled.
The market received Axor Uno with open arms, but still wanted something
more: a single-lever mixer above the basin as a wall-mounted unit. This
wish was mostly expressed by properties clients (hotels, semi-public areas).
At the ISH 2003, Axor presented the Uno single-lever basin mixer (concealed),
designed by Phoenix Product Design (Stuttgart/Tokyo). The concealed fittings
made their debut in purist form and leant the bathroom a distinctive tone.
The spout with a length of 160 or 220 mm from the wall and its joystick
lever can be mounted either on a metal base or on two escutcheons. They
can be mounted either to the right or to the left.
Both chrome and satinox finishes are available. The concealed fittings
are available in a new basic set. An extension set is available for various
wall constructions as required.

McDry
- Eco-Friendly Waterless Urinal by Duravit Receives Top Recognition By
America Press
McDry,
Duravit's waterless urinal meets water conservation needs in a variety
of applications. It has earned praise for its hygienic, environmentally
friendly benefits and innovative product design. The revolutionary product
was recently announced as one of Architectural Record's top product picks
for 2002 and included in Building Green's top ten list of environmental
products.
'With drought now affecting many areas of the U.S. and environmental concerns
prevalent, finding new ways to save water is more important than ever.
Duravit is pleased to do its part to help protect and save our precious
resources,' states Tim Schroeder, president of Duravit USA.
Architectural Record selected McDry as one of 13 new products that captured
the editors' attention in the publication's coveted annual Product Reports
issue. In addition, McDry was chosen as a 'Product of the Month' by Architectural
Record in August 2002 and featured in the publication's coveted Annual
Product Guide. McDry was also recognised by Building Green as one of the
ten most exciting products added to the GreenSpec Directory during the
past year. The announcement was made at the U.S. Green Building Council's
International Green Building Conference in Austin, Texas. The technology
behind McDry is extraordinarily simple: liquid waste runs directly via
the ceramic siphon into the sewage system and is powered by a specially-developed
fluid, McDry Blue, which is heavier than the waste and forces it downward.
McDry does not require installation of water pipes, flushing mechanisms
or rinsing of water, and, as a result, a family of four can save up to
35,000 gallons of water per year with McDry.McDry is a viable option for
commercial, institutional and even residential applications, with its
hygenic, environmental and economical advantages. McDry Blue, the sealing
liquid used by the urinal, contains purely plant-based ingredients and
is largely biologically biodegradable. Renewing McDry is quick and requires
no physical contact. The recommended amount of the liquid is sufficient
for at least 5,000 uses. The urinal's design offers dirt and bacteria little
opportunity to hold to the smooth, pore-free surface. Contact-free use
is another plus point for hygiene - perfect for heavily trafficked areas.
Practical details such as the convex, hygienic rear wall and lack of a
flushing rim, make it easier to clean than traditional urinals.
Other than the environmental and sanitary aspects, economy is an important
selling point for McDry. Purchase, installation and day-to-day running
and maintenance costs are considerably lower than with conventional urinals.
Ideal
Standard Presented Six Lifestyle Environments for Bathroom Design at ISH,
Frankfurt
'Feng
Shui', 'Natural', 'Loft', 'Plastic', 'Vintage' and 'Classic' are the names
of the six 'lifestyle environments' for the new bathrooms that Ideal Standard
presented at ISH 2003. These ambient environments are meant to inspire
consumers and show how much pleasure there is in creating a bathroom that
matches their own individual lifestyles. The lifestyle environments are
envisaged not as fixed design concepts with set parameters, but rather
as a set of modules that can be combined to suit individual tastes using
different product lines from Ideal Standard. For each of the environments,
Ideal Standard recommends two or three product lines that are suitable
for achieving the desired ambience.
Feng
Shui: Asian-inspired clarity
The Feng Shui lifestyle environment will appeal to design-conscious people
who feel an affinity with Asian lifestyle and culture, and who appreciate
an environment that evokes an ambience of peace and tranquillity. The
Feng Shui style meets this need in a particularly harmonious fashion:
clear lines, reduced forms and a few carefully co-ordinated colours in
conjunction with the clever use of light all create an ambience of unadorned
beauty which is simple and yet sophisticated at the same time. For this
style, Ideal Standard recommends the product lines IQ, Tonic and Venice.
Natural:
back to the essentials
'Natural' will appeal to consumers who feel at ease in pure, natural surroundings.
Wood and other natural, unprocessed materials predominate in this timeless
décor. This style can be produced in either very warm colours,
or refreshing shades of blue, giving a marine feel to the bathroom. The
product lines recommended for this style are Celia, IQ and Tonic.
Loft: the power of simplicity
The 'Loft' lifestyle environment is intended for style-conscious, urbane
and cosmopolitan people who appreciate high-quality, modern, no-frills
design. High-quality materials such as wood, aluminium and glass and an
absention of any superfluous elements give the Loft style an elegant and
luxurious character. The product lines Tonic, IQ and Venice are particularly
well suited to this style.
Plastic: retro charm for the bathroom
The 'Plastic' ambient environment is individual and stylish, and will
appeal to a predominantly younger, trend-conscious target group. This
style challenges conventions for example, through the use of unusual
forms and striking colour combinations. 'Plastic' incorporates various
influences, including the style of the 'Swinging Sixties', and complements
these with modern design elements. The 'Marc Newson' product line from
the accomplished Australian designer, presented for the first time in
Germany at ISH, is perfect for creating this style. The Tonic and IQ lines,
too, are suited to 'Plastic'.
Vintage:
yesterdays and todays styles in perfect harmony
'Vintage' is an atmospheric ambient environment, combining both nostalgic
and modern elements. It symbolises a masterly break in style, combining
diverse elements into a new harmonious whole. The potential buyers of
'Vintage' have a creative sense of style when planning their bathroom,
and value an atmosphere which lies somewhere between the elegant and the
playful but which is always unusual. The product lines with which
this style can best be attained are Venice, Marc Newson and Celia.
Classic:
timeless elegance
As the name suggests, 'Classic' is the classical alternative among the
lifestyle environments. Timeless, attractive forms, comfortable fittings
and character accessories all help to create an ambience of timeless charm.
This is a style that will appeal equally to every generation. Ideal Standard
recommends the product lines Celia and Tonic for 'Classic'.

Venice
from Ideal Standard
The
re-occurring basic form of all Venice products is the circle. It gives
the bathroom range its clear, purist appearance and beauty. It has already
been awarded the Prize for Design from North Rhine-Westphalia.
For the ISH 2003, Ideal Standard added to this successful collection by
including a comprehensive range of fittings and accessories that provide
a perfect extension, in colour and form, to the language of Venice. The
range of ceramics was also extended for the ISH and now comprises an even
more varied range of wash-stands.
The new Venice fittings have a complementary effect as extras to the range:
at the top end of the body of the tap fitting, in place of a handle, the
wash-stand tap fittings have a joystick that can be swivelled
in any direction.
For showering, the outflow pipe belonging to the bath and shower fitting
can be pushed underneath the fitting, so that it does not present any
space restriction. As it is pushed over, the water-flow is simultaneously
transferred to the shower function.

Franke
Aquarius a Free-Standing Sculpture for that Feel-Good Bathroom
and WC
Free-standing
like a fountain and therefore ideal for open plan designs
that is Aquarius, a sculptured wash-stand, which is part of Frankes
new range of stainless steel sanitary products. There is a slot integrated
into the wash-stand where you can dispose of paper with an accompanying
waste-paper receptacle inside, as well as a towel dispenser in the mirror
and a semi-circular flat surface to rest things on, which is made of glass.
At this years ISH in March in Frankfurt the Xinox product range
was awarded the title 'Design Plus'.
The complete Xinox series comprises of over fifty different products all
brought together by the designer team, Berger & Stahl from Basel and
conceived for the representative furnishing of sanitary facilities in
public, semi-public and private spheres. Anywhere where people put demands
on hygiene, comfort and aesthetics. Whether in wellness oases
or fitness facilities, in the theatre, in top hotels, at airports or to
furnish customer toilets in banks, insurance companies or industrial corporations,
just to name a few of the possible areas.
In addition to the optical effect and the quality finish Frankes
sanitary range also features surface enhancement with Inox+. This involves
not just a simple coating, but rather a costly process of enhancement,
in which the infinitely small nano particles bind themselves together
with the molecules of the stainless steel surface. The result: similar
to the Lotus effect, water and dirt just slide off and make finger marks
almost invisible. Consequently, Xinox sanitary products always look hygienic
and clean and at the same time make it possible to reduce the time and
effort given to cleaning and maintenance.

Adjustable
Lighting Unit Changes the Light Mood in the Bath
Duravit,
bathroom fittings specialist, has with designer James Irvine, developed
the 'Change' mirror programme, behind the clear design of which is concealed
an unusual lighting concept for the bathroom.
The idea arose from a thought by Duravit to positively influence the mood
of the bathroom user through the effect of light and to adjust the light
individually to the emotional state and needs.
To put this into practice, Duravit took designer James Irvine on board,
an expert who has for many years developed innovative light concepts in
the field of object illumination and for the first time tackled lighting
in the bathroom for Duravit.
As a first step came 'Change', a mirror programme, enabling the bathroom
user to change the illumination at the turn of a knob.
The spectrum ranges from 'cold' bluish light, which makes the observer
appear rather pale, through to a 'warm' yellowish light, in which even
wan skin appears rosy and lightly tanned.
In addition to the positive effect of the light perceived through feeling,
which also affects the atmosphere in the bathroom, 'Change' brings practical
benefits for make-up. Matching the colour temperature, in which the user
spends most of the day, make-up appears neither too strong nor too colourless.
The simple, elegant design of the mirror, which is supplied in three sizes,
80 cm high and 70, 100 and 120 cm wide, fits into any bathroom arrangement.
Using the unobtrusive knob on the lower side of the mirror, the oval lighting
unit is regulated to lift almost fluidly from the mirror surface. Positioned
above in the middle of the mirror, it throws a smooth and even light.
