Several years ago Arrow Distributors Ltd,
the UK specialist supplier of kitchen appliances to house builders, identified
a need for a bathroom range that was stylish and practical for homebuyers,

The
Aveo Bathroom Concept - Designed by Conran & Partners for Villeroy
& Boch
Taking its inspiration from the pure form of the egg, the new Aveo bathroom
concept is a range of sanitaryware designed for Villeroy
& Boch by renowned design agency Conran & Partners.
The
Inspiration:
In the design of the Aveo Collection, Conran & Partners looked at
naturally occurring forms such as the egg. The belief behind the design
is that a bathroom should be an oasis of calm, a sanctuary in which you
can be surrounded by soft natural forms. As such, the design avoids hard,
geometric shapes, and instead, takes on the perfectly natural form of
the egg - its protective shell is perfect in shape, weight and structure
for its function.
Conran & Partners were also influenced by the work of highly respected
British artists Anish Kapoor and Henry Moore.
Sebastian Conran says:
'Initially we considered today's modern living and the impact of 24/7/365
unrelenting technological advances and constant change. People need to
balance their pace of living with quality of life.
...They are more media-aware, visually sophisticated and environmentally
concerned. There is an uncertainty with life and work and we are physically
more self aware of health and well-being.
We have complexity and crave simplicity....
... Like much of our design work, the ceramics are based on natural forms,
such as eggs, shells and other naturally occurring forms. We have avoided
the recent fashion for linear, geometric forms which are visually unyielding
and unsympathetic to the human body... the belief is that a bathroom should
be an oasis of calm, a sanctuary where you are in your soft natural state
surrounded by soft natural forms.'
The Collection:
The Aveo Collection comprises a washbasin, WC, bidet and urinal, as well
as a bath, fittings, accessories and furniture. With its rounded, organic
design, each piece aims to create an aesthetically appealing atmosphere
in the bathroom - one of regeneration and privacy.
The collection includes a 70cm washbasin and a 50cm handbasin which is
perfect for a cloakroom or small bathroom, as well as a surface-mounted
and fitted washbasin. There are various types of WC with matching cisterns,
a urinal, and a floor-mounted and wall-mounted bidet. The co-ordinating
Aveo Quaryl bath is available from The Villeroy & Boch Wellness Division,
and is available in either a fitted or freestanding version. High sides
give the feeling of lying in a protective shell and should ensure feelings
of total relaxation.
Matching furniture with solid wood front panels and a wood veneer frame
in either bamboo or walnut complement the sanitaryware designs, while
the absence of handles and metal fittings continue the simplicity of the
design. For the tops of the furniture there is a choice of a smooth white
laminate finish or a surface featuring 5 x 5cm square white tiles from
the Pro Architectura system. The washbasin vanity unit offers a sturdy
base for the surface-mounted basin and, with a number of internal shelf
options, provides useful storage space.
Source Brassware:
With the design of the Source brassware, Conran & Partners aimed for
a deliberate contrast using forms that are fit for their material, purpose
and function. The pieces act like jewellery to the bathroom - their contrasting
forms punctuate and offset with the ceramics and the furniture.
The finishes are satin chrome and polished chrome & platinum - which
have a soft, warm and contemporary feel.
A selection of accessories, such as a towel rail, soap dish, a toothbrush
holder and a mirror light, complete the collection.
Aveo is being launched under the contemporary Metropolitan lifestyle collection,
which already includes New Haven, Nagano, Pure Basic, Loop and Soho NY
ranges.

Bosco
Takes Washstands into the 21st Century
The Bosco vanity stand from Ambiance Bain
is a contemporary version of the old-fashioned washstand.
Bosco has a solid wood frame in ash, cherry or wenge, with a low level,
frosted glass shelf. The Bosco 700 is 50cm wide while the Bosco 1050 and
Grande models both measure 1 metre wide.
Each of the three models has a different worktop. The Bosco 700 has a
solid wood top while the Bosco 1050 wooden worktop additionally has two
frosted glass panels inset at either end. Ambiance Bain's new ceramic
or frosted glass basins are available as optional extras for both these
models, while the Bosco Grande features a resin slab basin, available
in white or pergamon.

Missel
specialises in bathroom design and plumbing technology. Its glass decor
corner shelves, which do not just look good, but are also equally practical,
now complement its range of corner components for corner installation.
The decorative triangular unit has a depth of 218 mm and is 420 mm wide.
It fits in form and colour with the other products in the manufacturers
compact element range. It uses the corner space effectively and with a
compact element placed underneath, it makes an elegant collection.
The glass decor corner shelves are screw-fixed to the wall with two metal
brackets. Missel supplies the decorative accessories in five different
