White
& Silver from David Chipperfield for Ideal-Standard
The
White & Silver range designed by architect David Chipperfield for
Ideal-Standard came to market at
the end of May.
The
architecture of David Chipperfield is characterised by its careful, almost
sculptural simplicity and honest use of beautiful materials. These qualities
are brought to the fore in the design of new products for Ideal-Standard.
White is a range of ceramics for bathrooms and washrooms and Silver is
a range of taps and mixers for bathrooms, washrooms and kitchens. David
Chipperfield has designed the collection with the eye and experience of
an architect aware of the value of a family of products adaptable to the
variety of requirements within a single project.
Practical needs are incorporated within the range's overall character
of modernity and simplicity. The geometric lines and silhouettes are characteristic
to the products and reinforce both their originality and compatibility.
Yet at the same time by employing the traditional bathroom materials of
chromium plated brass and glazed white vitreous china, they also reveal
a sense of familiarity and utility.
The products can be used in commercial and domestic environments. Silver
has been designed for high and low pressure water systems, making the
range suitable for UK use. White has a full range of basins are available
including 50cm basin, 40cm basin, 45cm back-outlet basin, 45cm semi-countertop
basin and 40cm vessel basin. WCs are available in close-coupled, back-to-wall

Twenty
20 from Sottini
'Twenty
20' is the latest collection from Sottini,
created by Stefan Eckstein, one of Europe's modern masters of ceramic
design. The designer's aim was to advance recent bathroom design trends
while capturing the essence of 21st Century urban life.
For Twenty 20, Eckstein has produced a circular basin utilising the beauty
and practicality of white china - fusing the bowl shape with a styled
tap ledge and china support, all of which enables much greater co-ordination
with the other major bathroom pieces, and allows homeowners and interior
designers to apply an uninterrupted rhythm to their designs.
Twenty 20's circular, edge-less bowl is the design signature throughout
the collection of washbasins, vessels, glass shelving, wall mounted WC
and wall mounted bidet.
There are four versions of washbasin available. These include a 480 X
545mm washbasin that can be fitted with separate shelves either side of
the bowl; 800 X 560mm and 1000 X 580mm washbasins, both with integral
shelves that hide the fittings and give a quasi-suspended appearance to
the units; and a 400mm, shelf-resting vessel bowl.
The range is completed with wall-hung wc and bidet both of which can be
fixed on the Sottini 'in-wall' mounting system. Available in white the
Twenty 20 is complemented perfectly by the Sottini Lagaro chrome cradle
bath.

Hopkinsons
Relaunches Prima Bathrooms
Hopkinsons
Fourways
has updated its bathroom collection under own brand, Prima, with an extended
range of sanitaryware, brassware and accessories, featured in a new brochure.
Following its brand identity - focusing on value without compromising
on style and quality - the enhanced new Prima bathroom range offers contemporary
and traditional looks with a strong European flavour, bringing it in line
with its Prima kitchen collection.
New
contemporary bathroom suites include the Jasmin and the Orillo, both of
which offer designer looks for the budget bathroom sector. The Jasmin
ceramicware collection provides a cosmopolitan theme for the modern bathroom
setting - the latest looks for fashion-conscious clients working on a
limited budget.
In contrast, the Orillo suite combines sweeping curves with dramatic angles.
Orillo satisfies the fashionable angular theme which has crept into the
UK from the continent - and Prima now enables what was once regarded as
an expensive 'designer' look, become an affordable and realistic interior
solution.
New brassware options complete the popular European look Prima has presented
and two designs have been introduced to complement the new ceramicware
- the Madrid and Taurus brassware ranges. Again, both styles represent
the latest trends filtering into the UK bathroom market - single lever
mixer taps in streamlined chrome - for maximum impact and inspiration.
Madrid features a swivelling spout and cross handles, whereas Taurus is
minimalistic with tilt and turn temperature and flow control.
New introductions to Prima's accessories range include two extra wood-effect
panels in beech and white ash, in addition to the existing mahogany, pine
and pearwood options.
Commented Sally Parkinson, Marketing Manager for Hopkinsons Fourways:
'The enhanced bathroom portfolio from Prima is now at new level, to complement
our recently updated Prima kitchens division. Prima is already a well
established brand and we expect its success to spread yet further throughout
the UK.'

Ideal
Standard - Marc Newson Bathroom Product Line
The
Ideal Standard bathroom product line,
designed by the internationally renowned Marc Newson, is targeted at the
kind of individual who appreciates conceptual design.
The unmistakeable elegant simplicity of the ceramic pieces reflect Newsons
passion for geometric yet fluid symmetry. Each piece appears to be chiselled
out of one marble block, yet the soft appearance of the gently rounded
edges belies the solidity of the sculptural form. The free-standing bath
creates an extraordinary impact. Its monumental presence manages to evoke
a sense of both the classical and the ultra modern. It is the signature
piece of the whole range.
In addition to the ceramic and acrylic products, the Marc Newson product
line comprises a large selection of accessories such as soap dishes
and towel holders made out of white acrylic, as well as a complete
range of fittings. The fluted handles and solid forms of the tap fittings
pick up on the sector approach of providing a total bathroom solution.
The bidet and the wash-stand are additionally available with a thermostatic
function.
A
major focus of the Newson suite is the basin. The inner circle of the
bowl is offset by the rectangular rim, the overall effect, gives the impression
that the bowl has been hollowed out of a solid structure. The Newson WC
and bidet are similarly 'sculptural' and of generous proportion.
The Newson Free-standing Bath stands as the 'Monolithic' centrepiece of
the suite. The 1900x950mm Bath echo's the sculptural ethos of the pedestal
basin. The Bath and Panels are formed as one seamless piece creating a
simplistic focal point for the bathroom.
To accompany the Newson porcelain is a collection of brassware. Newson
brassware applies sophisticated design to advanced technology making it
possible to go beyond traditional single-hole mixers and to provide an
additional easy to use thermostatic mixer. The right-hand handle regulates
the flow of water, while the left-hand handle sets the required temperature.

Duravit
AG - White Comes up Trumps!
At the time of its introduction to the market in 1998, the 4 x 9 furniture
series by Duravit as a programme of
individual, cost effective furniture pieces opened up new perspectives
for bathroom design.
The simple yet genial idea from Sieger De-sign: Take the shape of a square
and divide it symmetrically into smaller squares or add further squares
across and down. The result is a flexible, youthful and modern furniture
programme.
The possibilities for colour play are an important component of the 4
x 9 programme. Surfaces in maple, cherry-wood and, quite recently, classic
white are combined with drawer containers made of dyed polypropylene.
They are supplied in the following colours: Panama, a tender yellow, marina,
a fresh pigeon blue, bonanza, a warm cinnamon shade and white, and so,
like the drawer fronts, are a lively and effective contrast to the body.
The new white variant makes it suitable for monochrome solutions. Wholly
in white, 4 x 9 suggests Nordic cool, classic and timeless. The glass
doors make their contribution: either completely non-see-through or as
a showcase door with opaque frames and diced décor, they draw the
eye to vanity units, cupboards and sideboards.
As the ideal complement to existing bathroom designs, the 4 x 9 programme
includes practical universal vanity units, which thanks to a specially
developed chromium shield, creates perfect harmony with vanity units from
all well known makers.
Mirror elements and mirror collages with side lighting and supplied in
many different widths give the washroom the correct light.
For the perfect bathroom arrangement, the 4 x 9 offers much more: tall
cupboards, sideboards, roll containers, top and bottom cup-boards or drawer-container
blocks as practical solutions for small and large bathrooms.

Alchemy
from Sottini
Sottini
claims its Alchemy range suits the modern move toward styles with an eye
for the finer things in life. All unnecessary excess has been removed
to leave simple ovals that achieve Alchemy's post-minimalist look.
The individual pieces within the extensive Alchemy range, such as the
circular bowl that appears to be carved out of the semi-circular basin,
relate to each other and are complemented by the new Alchemy collection
of brassware.
From bathroom designer Robin Levien RDI, the Alchemy brassware collection
is a balance of yin and yang shapes, the strength of the modern, tubular
body being balanced with the extenuating curves in the water delivery
spouts. Monoblock, Bridge and Pillar models further define the depth of
the whole Alchemy collection.
