The
Glamour and the Glitsch
Last Thursday, the fourth annual House Beautiful Awards were
held at Madame Tussauds and while the stars of TV makeover shows rightfully
accepted awards for their contribution to the home interiors market,
the Kitchen and Bathroom industry also provided its fair share of glitz
and glamour by way of products and ideas worthy of their place in the
stellar firmament.
Appliance innovation awards went to Stoves for Genus and Whirlpool
for Titanium, best bathroom product was the Aqualux Walk-in,
and a best advertisement gong was also justifiably awarded to Aqualux,
for its 'Exhilarating Surroundings' campaign, which probably led to
a lot of people standing naked on rocks at high tide. Wickes
and Ikea picked up Best Kitchen awards (mmm...), while the award
for best furniture range award went to MFI, although obviously
not for its bathroom furniture...
Last week also saw the annual Tile Association day, giving companies
an opportunity to showcase their latest products to the Kitchen and
Bathroom trade. The event this year was held at The Building Centre
in London and may have suffered from being timed just after the KBB
exhibition and also being on the same date as the high profile NEFF
launch that was featured in last week's K&BZine. Companies exhibiting
were in single figures and visitor from the press were almost as sparse,
which was a shame as what was on show was both innovative and attractive
(more on both of these stories below in NEWS).
Finally, a warm welcome to a new advertiser, Autokitchen,
whose kitchen design software - which will also design bathrooms and
bedrooms - has recently been improved with the introduction of Version

Survey Predicts Bumper 2006 for KBSA Members
The
Kitchen Bedroom Bathroom Specialists Association
(KBSA) has warmly welcomed a survey of UK homeowners predicting
a busy year for kitchen and bathroom specialists. The survey,
which was carried out in December 2005, asked homeowners to
name their top ten priorities for 2006 and found that home
improvements were high on the list of New Year resolutions.
Topping the list, 36% of respondents said that they planned
to fit a new kitchen or bathroom in their homes for 2006.
