Challenging
Times Ahead?
With bad news from the multiples suggesting that there is no more cost
to cut out of the kitchen and bathroom distribution business, and Masco
revising its profits forecast in the wake of a reduction in housing
starts, it looks like we are in for a tough autumn.
A glimmer of hope is always provided by an upbeat exhibition, and 100%
Design is doing a grand job in making us at least feel good about
the quality - and quantity - of good design and innovative products
in the KB market.
Ideal Standard has excelled itself yet again with its stylish, 'mid-mid
market' bath suite designed - in his first ever UK commission - by the
hugely talented Jasper Morrison (more on this below).
Gorenje, meanwhile, has an absolute showstopper on its stand,
which we feature - rather prematurely since it will not be in full production
until next year - as this week's Product of the Week.
100% Design continues at Earls Court over the weekend, so if you haven't
made it yet, it is definitely worth the effort, especially if the weather
continues like it is as I look out of the window!
Finally, only a week after saying I would try to refrain mentioning the dreaded C word, I'm afraid we have two news items this week which can't avoid the subject. Oh well, I tried...
