American Standard to Break Up

The behemoth which is American Standard is to break up into three separate companies. The core business will remain Air Conditioning, and will be renamed Trane after its flagship brand, while the Vehicle control systems business will be spun off under the name WABCO.

The Bath and Kitchen business is to be sold off before the end of the year, and the company has additionally announced the closure of the assembly plant in Wolverhampton, with a loss over just over 100 jobs, with up to 250 job losses expected throughout Europe.

Better news elsewhere, with RAK Ceramics and Althea UK both relocated to larger premises in the UK, In-toto establishing a new showroom in Swindon and Magnet Kitchens investing some £1m in its plant at Darlington, creating around 40 jobs.

This week also saw the major European launch for Gaggenau's next generation ranges of cooking and cooling appliances. Held under the historic London Bridge station, some 250 customers and journalists witnessed the unveiling of a huge range of new products, accompanied by beautifully cooked food and a live band. The Heating Company at ISH
This year, visitors to the ISH Trade Fair in Frankfurt (6-10 March 2007) will in the Forum Hall be welcomed by The Heating Company to its exhibition stand, a display booth covering a surface area of 270 m2. The Bathroom Manufacturers Association (BMA) has an action-packed agenda for 2007 and Industry can expect the launch of some very exciting projects throughout the course of the year. The main themes are Water Efficiency; Training and Education; and, Special Needs.

We all know that water efficiency is a hot topic and the release of the DCLG/Defra Consultation on Water Efficiency in New Buildings published in December 2006 has pushed this subject to the top of the agenda.
