Buildstore
Opens in Swindon
Last Friday, the massive 67,000 square foot 'National Self Build
and Renovation Centre' in Swindon finally opened its doors to the
public - or rather those members of the public who are brave enough
to embark on a self-build project - apparently there are 20,000 of them
every year, which as a group makes them larger than the top housebuilder.
TV builder Tommy Walsh did the honours, perhaps not the best choice
given the fact that he is so tall he dwarfed most of the exhibits he
was photographed with!
One wonders how much impact the new Buildstore will have on these shows, or indeed, whether it will stand up to the increasing influence of the Grand Designs brand in this sector.
I must admit, the idea of an exhibition open all year round is quite appealing, as opposed to trying to cram 200 stand visits into three hectic days of a normal type of trade show.

is no getting away from it - we are all getting

are frailer? Figures from the Office of National
Statistics state that by 2050 the UK's over 60s
population will have grown 56 per cent, which means
