A
week is a long time in the KB market- and even longer in politics. Those
shocked by the catastrophic demise of the PM's fortunes in recent weeks,
may be even more shocked at the apparent collapse of the housing - and
housebuilding - markets.
When the house price index drops half a percent, newspapers run sensational
headlines about bankrupt Britain which so far we have taken with a pinch
of salt. However, the fact remains that a number of influential reports
from the general building market have not made comfortable reading in
recent days.
On the plus side the interiors market remains bouyant for the moment and
some major investment continues in this market, as we reported last week.
It's too early to call how things are going to look by the end of next
week: but barring any more financial or political blunders the industry
can hopefully weather the storm.
Meanwhile, in this issue's new BMA Column, the importance of maintaining
one's training commitments is stressed as a key strategy in uncertain
times.
