Bathrooms & Kitchens Expo 2003 Highlights Part 2
Commenting on BK Expo, Tim Hutchinson of first-time exhibitors, 'Waterline at The Kitchen Republic said: 'Retailers told us that there was a freshness about the show, with lots of interesting new products to see and trends to follow. Notably, there was a strong kitchen furniture presence that othger exhibitions lack. It was a busy and successful finale to our Product Premier Tour'.

Sanitec reports First Quarter Results, and Attributes Lower Sales to Currency Exchange Rates
Operating profit of Sanitec International for the first quarter of 2003 was EUR 15.1 million (2002: 12.3 million), an increase of EUR 2.8 million or 22.8% over the first quarter of 2002. In the first quarter of 2003 operating profit margin increased to 6.2% of net sales compared to 4.9% in the first quarter of the previous year. Restructuring in the ceramics production network as well as savings in sales, general, and administration costs contributed to this increase.

Another positive quarter for Merloni Elettrodomestici, which posted increases in sales and operating margin of 42% and 45%, respectively, compared to the 1st quarter of 2002. The accounts for the 1st quarter of 2003 were reviewed by the board of directors meeting in Fabriano yesterday. The results include figures for GDA (Hotpoint brand), the leading UK company acquired last year and 100% consolidated for the first time in this quarter.

A hearing is scheduled to take place on 21st May 2003 at Manchester County Court. This is the first time the OFT has taken court action for breach of a Stop Now Order.

Villeroy & Boch Q1 Interim Report 2003
A further deterioration was seen in the international economy in the first quarter of 2003. Economic indices fell back even further both in Europe and the USA. Additional uncertainty was created among consumers in Germany by the start of the war in Iraq in particular. Fear of war and job losses heightened the restraint in consumer spending. In addition, export opportunities declined owing to revaluation of the Euro against the Dollar.

American Standard Reports Double-Digit Increases in Sales, Net Income and EPS
American Standard Companies Inc. announced on 16th April first-quarter earnings of 87 cents per diluted share, up 12 percent from first quarter last year. These earnings are consistent with the company’s January estimate for the quarter of 85-90 cents. Sales were a record $1.95 billion, up 11 percent from a year ago. Net income rose to $63.8 million, up 12 percent.
