Polypipe heat recovery units offer compact solution for housing association's needs

Polypipe Ventilation, which manufactures energy-saving domestic and light commercial ventilation systems, has had its heat recovery system installed in a new housing development, built by main contractor J.Harper & Sons, for South Shropshire Housing Association.

South Shropshire Housing Association currently owns and manages over 2000 properties and, as part of Shropshire Housing Group, will contribute towards the development of 500 new homes by 2013; this latest development of houses and bungalows forms part of this process.

The Polypipe HR01 heat recovery units have been installed into the housing association's new properties by Hereford Boiler Services. The units have been fitted into the lofts, with Polypipe's Domus ducting used throughout. Combined with solar heating, this solution gives the Housing Association a Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, enabling it to cost-effectively meet its environmental and legislative obligations.

While the design & build contractor specified the use of heat recovery, it was Hereford Boiler Services that chose Polypipe Ventilation equipment, as David Llewellyn explains: "Unlike others on the market, these are very conveniently sized units and are a neat, compact solution with everything contained within the one enclosure. They were also competitively priced."

But it's not just the HR01 heat recovery units that impressed David: "We also used Domus ducting from Polypipe for the heat recovery system and Polypipe provided a good level of support when it came to the system design. I liked that fact that we could get the entire solution from one company - it's a good package."

Polypipe Ventilation says it is the first company to truly offer a complete integrated ventilation system adopting a whole system approach with ducting and appliance working in perfect harmony.

Energy Saving Trust Best Practice compliant and SAP Q rated, the HR01 Mechanical Extract Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR) units work by warming fresh air drawn into the building with the heat from waste stale air - as found in the kitchen or bathroom for example - thus reducing the need for heating. The HR01 units themselves are among the quietest on the market, are lightweight and compact for simple, easy installation in kitchen cupboards or lofts.

When used with Domus duct systems, the Polypipe solution provides one of the most effective MVHR systems in the market, as guaranteed whole system performance can be achieved thanks to the exacting manufacturing tolerances of the duct system providing a uniform profile with a superior fit for reduced air leakage.
