Talented young tilers in training for WorldSkills London 2011

In November 2010, four young wall and floor tilers were selected by UK Skills to join Squad UK with the hope that they will be ready to take on the very best from across the globe at the largest skills competition there is, WorldSkills, which takes place from 5th to 8th October this year.

WorldSkills London 2011 will bring together over 50 countries and 1000 young people to compete to be the best of the best in more than 40 skills.

The four wall and floor tilers that form part of the 100 strong UK Squad are now taking part in an intense training programme as they work towards a selection event in June at which the final members of Team UK will be decided. Only one candidate, the very best from Squad UK, will be selected to join Team UK which will go on to compete at WorldSkills London 2011.

The competitors in Wall and Floor Tiling for Squad UK are:

Jonny Carter, 21, from Northumberland. He is studying at Ashington College and is an apprentice with P Plunkett Tiling Contractors.

Harry Coyle, 21, from Yorkshire. He is studying at Leeds college of Building.

Ian McMahon, 21, from County Derry in Northern Ireland. He is studying at North West Regional College.

Mark Woods, 20, from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. He is studying at South West College Omagh.
