The lastest Labour Force Survey, which was recently published by the Office of National Statistics, shows that last year 34.4 million work days were lost due to musculoskeletal problems. Having watched two burly men earlier this week, struggle to get a washing machine up some exterior steps to the door of an apartment block, I wondered what percentage of these figures could be attributed to the KBB industry.
Manhandling heavy appliances into people's homes can't be easy at the best of times, but throw into the mix all this rain we're having and the way it's making everything so darned slippery - and add to that the ire of the householders who've had their carpets and floors damaged by wet and muddy boots and you have a recipe for disaster.
And of course things can only get worse with the Olympic Games about to start, which will mean that the roads will be clogged up and deliveries will be delayed and however hard you try and explain, you won't be able to convince people that it's not your fault!
Many of us grumble about our jobs but right now I can think of better places to be than working in a customer services call centre that handles deliveries, or humping heavy appliances around, can't you?
Yours,
