MFI to reassemble

The return of a familiar face in the family of mass market KBB retailers is likely to shake the industry up... Shane and Jason Walker, who run family plumbing business the Walker Group, have bought the rights to the MFI brand from administrator MCR for £250,000 and are set to relaunch the company, two years after its collapse due to the credit crunch.

The 111-strong chain, which was a popular first port of call for those seeking a decent-priced kitchen and advice on how to design it, was founded in 1964 and became famous for its flatpack furniture.

A statement on the company's basic website says:

"Founded in 1964, the MFI brand has been at the forefront of furniture retailing in the UK for almost 50 years. The true pioneer of the one stop shop for home products, MFI has been instrumental in the creation and development of not only the products we buy for our home but also the way we buy them.

"In line with ever changing retail landscape, MFI is being specifically refreshed to offer a more innovative and design led product range and shopping experience, whilst continuing the tradition of offering great choice and value for money backed up with first class customer service and support.

"The MFI brand re launch promises to be one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the UK retail calendar..."
