Homeowners looking to improve rather than move at this year's Grand Designs Live

Specialists from the Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association were on hand to dispense expert advice at this year's Grand Designs Live event, enjoying another very busy and very successful exhibition.

The KBSA experts arrived with a diary full of appointments and an arsenal of practical advice for Grand Designs goers, and were to be found manning the Expert Advice Centre from the Friday through to the Sunday. Questions about kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and even home offices came thick and fast, leaving the KBSA representatives rushed off their feet!

"The Advice Centre was in constant use, with top KBSA expert Alan Stanford fielding questions on all things KBB, and the practicalities of extension projects," says Ruth Ward, KBSA sales and marketing director."This year we had a lot of interest in how to create a kitchen that works as a social space. Lots of GDL visitors were looking for advice on kitchen extensions, islands and bi-fold doors reflecting the current 'social kitchen' trend.

"There were also plenty of questions regarding bathroom and bedroom renovations, in the current climate many people are choosing to improve rather than move, and this certainly seemed to be the case with the visitors to our Advice Centre.

"As with previous years, we had plenty of enquiries about how homeowners can ensure their chosen retailer is reputable and reliable. We took the opportunity to make visitors aware of the KBSA message - and how to buy wisely.

"We were able to provide copies of our new Showcase guide, which is full of practical advice. The 2013/14 issue is now also available to download from the KBSA website.

"KBSA members have to abide by strict criteria to be accepted, we were able to reassure visitors that there is far more to KBSA accreditation than paying a membership fee! Our retailers offer a specialist design service and complete customer care as well as full deposit protection, work in progress cover, and a six-year workmanship warranty, so KBSA buyers have a sense of absolute security.

"Exhibitions like Grand Designs Live are an important part of our consumer communications plan, giving us the opportunity to meet and advise homeowners who are seriously considering in investing in home improvement."

The KBSA is a national trade association founded 30 years ago to promote excellence within the interiors industry and champion consumer protection. It now boasts more than 300 retail members throughout the UK.

KBSA members are dedicated to upholding the association's high standards of design, supply, installation and customer service throughout the interiors industry. All members are carefully vetted prior to admission and they must have been trading for at least two years in order to be considered for membership. All members offer ConsumerCare deposit protection or ConsumerCare Plus, which protects the consumer from payment of the deposit to completion of the contract and includes an insurance backed warranty.

In addition, all members are subject to regular monitoring of their businesses to ensure levels of quality are continually maintained.
