Leisure Sinks - truly built to last...

* Leisure-Sinks-Victorian.jpgWhen Camberwell-based lawyer Berni Baker wanted to renovate the kitchen in his Victorian home in 2014, he opted to install an original 1953 metal Leisure kitchen and sink. Although the sink, taps and kitchen had been in storage for seven years, they are all now fully functional, having been moved from one property to another.

Commenting on the sink, Berni is full of praise, as he enthuses: "The Leisure sink is absolutely brilliant and looks beautiful in the metal kitchen. We decided to use the 1950s kitchen and sink because they look so different - and so much better - than many of the chipboard and plastic units on the market today. Indeed, the whole kitchen has been designed around the original metal units, with the sink resting on one of them."

The Leisure sink and kitchen originate from 1953, while the taps are also from Leisure Sinks - a 1960s vintage. Berni was so impressed with the build quality of the kitchen and the sink that he researched the origins of the materials used in the manufacturing process - where he discovered the metal came from surplus steel used to construct spitfire nosecones. After reading that 2013 was Leisure Sinks' 80th anniversary, he contacted the company to share his sink's story.

Berni continues: "The kitchen and sink were originally installed in my father-in-law's cottage in Essex, before everything was put into storage. Now everything has been fitted here in London, where it remains fully functional. You can see the amazing quality of workmanship put into the sink back in Long Eaton; there really is an evocative sense of authentic British manufacturing that has become a rarity these days. Everything here, from the kitchen units to the Leisure Sinks motif on the taps, was clearly built to last and has stood the test of time."

Leisure Sinks, which is part of AGA Rangemaster, is the biggest manufacturer of domestic stainless steel sinks in the UK, and 2013 saw the company celebrate its 80th anniversary. The brand has built its reputation on quality, consistency and longevity. Its stainless steel designs suit both modern and traditional homes and come with a 10-year warranty - which means end users and installers can trust Leisure Sinks to provide perfect performance every time.
