Blacksmith Crafting for Kitchens

The skills borne of generations of blacksmiths are no better displayed than by the carefully hand crafted and original kitchen components produced by metal design and fabrication specialists, By Hammer and Hand.

No matter what the individual requirement, By Hammer and Hand can produce a wide range of designs from pan hangers to game hangers, pan stands to towel rails and hooks, kitchen utensil rails to shelf brackets and so much more. Of particular popularity are shelves for fitting above traditional cast iron range cookers or similar stoves. Of robust and heat proof construction they are especially suited to holding pans, pots and casseroles, all ready to be used to produce that special culinary delight.

But the concept doesn't stop there. No matter what the requirement might be, the supply of a drawing or sketch enables the artistry and creative integrities of the By Hammer & Hand craftsmen to come to the fore to produce what is desired.

Using skills learnt and developed over many years, head blacksmith Robert Nightingale and his colleagues produce a whole range of bespoke designs that can suit particular internal environments, the kitchen or an interior designer's specification and the special aspiration of the homeowner. Almost anything is possible, and what is really inspirational is that everything, whether of traditional or contemporary design, is unique to that particular job. Being hand made, using the personal skills of the individuals, each and every item produced by the By Hammer & Hand creative team of blacksmiths is different.

However, the creative skills of the By Hammer and Hand blacksmith team are not limited to kitchen components. Towel rails, garden trelliswork, bench seats and gates, jardinières, wine carriers and racks, candle holders, curtain rails and even chairs and tables, all and a great deal more are carefully created just for that individual application.

Aura Corporation Launches Railite The Hand Rail with Downlighting Facility

A new lighting creation Railite was unveiled recently by Aura Corporation Ltd, the manufacturers of the patented 'Actulite' Polarised Daylight Lighting and 'AuraTech' Electronic L E D Lighting.

Railite is a solid timber handrail, which incorporates a highly efficient continuous downlighting module suitable for both indoor and outdoor situations. It has been the subject of considerable investment and many years of development due to the difficulties of making such a linear light source, with extremely long life, of variable length, whilst at the same time being small enough to incorporate into a handrail.

Important to note is that Railite has been meticulously designed to meet the exacting standards of the Disability Discrimination Act and current Health and Safety Legislation. This tough illuminating handrail system has been designed to illuminate corridors and staircases in a manner which combines very low cost operation, with the safety of low voltage (12 volts).

Comprising a banister handrail, manufactured in straight lengths of well-seasoned Joinery Quality timber, and accurately routed to accept the AuraTech electronic linear lighting unit, Railite directs ample light to the floor or staircase. It has an effective maintenance free operational life of 12 years if operated continuously, with proportionately longer life if lower daily hours apply. The lighting module can be replaced at the end of this period if required. The AutoTech linear lighting unit is incorporated into the timber banister rail so that walkways and staircases
are safely and clearly visible even in zero lighting conditions.

Railite is expected to prove to be a very important product for those situations where very low light levels are required in the room space. Situations that could benefit particularly from the product could be nightclubs, museums, external pathways etc or where there is no lighting available, but where for reasons of Health & Safety, it is essential that floors or staicase are easily visible.

Being made from a natural material, Railite is user friendly and extremely resistant to accidental damage. It is supplied in a sealing primer coat, and can be painted or varnished to give a pleasing effect to any installation.

Railite has a nominal cross section area of 100mm x 50mm with smooth surfaces and radiused corners and can be supplied in lengths starting from 600mm to 5 metres maximum in 100mm stages. In extreme circumstances, longer lengths could be manufactured if transport can be arranged. Railite comes with twin core cable and transformer for safe operation. The energy consumption is an unbelievably low 5 watts per metre of handrail.

Carrara & Matta Launch Accessory Lines into UK Market

European manufacturer Carrara & Matta, best known in the UK for its reputation as manufacturers of high-quality toilet seats, is to launch a range of bathroom accessories into the UK marketplace. In particular, the company is keen to draw attention to its highly durable 'Bravo Suite' line of accessories, designed for hotels and other establishments which experience regular heavy use.

Carrara & Matta has for many years enjoyed a reputation for the quality and diversity of its accessory range in Europe, and the company will be offering three distinct lines onto the UK market. Each line is individually characterised by a particular aesthetic, and in every case involves a harmonious combination of materials and finishes.
Styling can best be described as contemporary, European and modernist. The new lines for the UK feature clear and satin-finished glass, along with chrome or stainless steel.

In addition to the familiar fare of soap and toilet roll holders, towel rails and mirrors, Carrara & Matta is offering grab bars, shelving and pedal bins.

‘Indeed, there is almost nothing that you might expect to find fitted in a bathroom that can't be found among these lines,’ says the company.

The lines that Carrara and Matta will be launching in the UK are the Atelier and X-line ranges from the company's 'Metalworks' collection, and the Bravo Suite from the 'Suite' collection.

Comments Carrara & Matta European Marketing Director, Mirella Tronci ‘Carrara & Matta has some 60 years of experience in the manufacture of design and quality products. We are committed to research and our product lines are in a state of constant evolution. Our accessory ranges have been popular throughout Europe for a long time, and at last the UK will be able to benefit from what their European neighbours have long enjoyed.’
