Actulite
- The Anti S.A.D. Lighting That Really Does Work
The
onset of Autumn and the reduction in effective daylight hours means the
beginning of several months of misery for several thousand people throughout
the UK. Known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (or S.A.D.), the symptoms
vary in severity from 'winter blues', general malaise, irritability, to
suicidal depression until the onset of Springtime.
The
condition was only formally recognised within the last twenty years and
in recent times the recommended remedy has been to spend several hours
every day sitting in front of the concentrated light from a multi - tube
fluorescent light box, enduring the discomfort of the glare that results
from such a high intensity light source.
'There is now a new answer to remedying Seasonal Affective Disorder (or
S.A.D.) and this is the 'Actulite Polarised Daylight Lighting System'
with its revolutionary patented multi-layer reflux polarising panel.'
says Aura Corporation Ltd. 'Actulite polarised lighting is almost identical
to the light on a slightly overcast pleasant spring day, the very natural
light that is missing during the winter months.
'When Actulite luminaires are installed in a domestic kitchen or study
(or in the workplace) they will engender a 'feel good' factor.
'This means that SAD sufferers do not have to sit and look into a light
box for hours, merely having an Actulite Daylight ceiling light unit fitted
can get rid of the SAD while you get on with something else. Actulite
has been proven time and time again to greatly assist sufferers during
these periods and the huge amount of verifiable testimonials from our
clients more than proves the point.'
A further bonus from Actulite eradicates all unpleasant and disturbing
glare and enables the user to see more, as it dramatically increases the
levels of contrast and so the visual acuity (actual seeing power). Effectively
the user can see 120% more detail from the available light. Whilst conventional
artificial lighting has a high yellow content with poor visual quality,
resulting in eyestrain, visual stress and headaches, Actulite has a balanced
spectral range virtually the same as that of daylight and the user has
the benefit of always enjoying a 'daylight' environment.
While domestic users will readily appreciate the unique benefits of Actulite
polarised lighting, it already has widespread commercial use in shops,
offices, factories, hospitals and colleges where all the employees are
enjoying an S.A.D. free working environment.
In the home, Actulite is particularly suitable for kitchens, bathrooms,
studies, and work areas. Its commercial applications are wide and varied.
Actulite is now the number one choice in thousands of commercial and industrial
premises, from medical and retail to factories and workshops.
With winter now upon us, many more people will again suffer the symptoms
of SAD. Actulite can now make a real difference for all in enjoying what
should be one of the most special seasons of the year.

New
Chunky Pilaster will Complement any Burbidge Cream Kitchen
Burbidge has introduced a new 100mm
wide chunky cream-painted pilaster that can be used to accompany any of
its cream-painted wood kitchens or alabaster foil wrap kitchens.
With
many of Burbidge's cream-painted wooden kitchens and alabaster foil wrap
kitchens being precisely colour matched, this new accessory can be combined
with a very broad range of cream designs including Waverly Cream, Buxton
Alabaster, Portland Cream, Cambridge Alabaster, Bloomsbury Alabaster and
Worcester Alabaster.
Ben Burbidge, managing director, comments: With each of these kitchen
options, the type of accessories used can really influence the overall look.
To maximise flexibility in design for our consumers we have ensured that
all our alabaster foil and cream painted wood kitchens are the same colour,
and as such each can be combined with accessories from different ranges
to create a unique look. For instance, Buxton Alabaster frontals can be
combined with a foil wrap gun barrel pilaster from the Waverley Cream range
or the 100mm wide chunky cream painted wood pilaster can be used instead
to add a touch of drama. Alternatively for a more contemporary finish, the
simple square pilaster that accompanies our Portland Cream kitchen is ideal.
This new wide pilaster is the latest addition to an extensive choice of
cream foil wrap and wooden accessories, all of which can be interchanged
with different frontal designs. Not only is there a wide choice of pilaster
designs available to customers, there are also different styles of boxed
and hooded canopies, cornices, light pelmets, friezes, shelving open-end
units and over mantels.
Ben Burbidge continues: In today's market it's critical that kitchen
designers are able to be as flexible and creative in their designs as possible.
We want to ensure that our customers know that they are not limited to foil
wrap accessories if the consumer chooses a foil wrap kitchen and vice versa
with wood kitchens. All our cream accessories can be interchanged with any
of our cream frontals.

is being unveiled at numerous trade exhibitions including the BBC Good
Food Show in November, is a totally new product in the UK market and provides
a new way to protect and store fresh foods in the refrigerator.
This concept uses patented rods which can be easily slid onto a super-tough
nylon poly bag to seal in freshness. The rods provide an airtight, watertight
and odour-tight seal ensuring that the bag's contents are kept fresher
for longer. Pack-Mate AnyLock has recently been named as the Best New
Product at Autumn Fair 2005, the UK's biggest retail trade fair, by the
British Hardware Federation.
AnyLock sealing rods can also be used to re-seal packaging bags, such
as breakfast cereals, rice, pasta and sliced bread, once opened. AnyLock
is not only suitable for preserving fresh foods, such as fruit and vegetables,
but it can be used to contain the smell of troublesome foods, such as
fish and onions. The AnyLock system is also ideal for transporting foods
for picnics or school packed lunches.
Pack-Mate AnyLock provides a good retail opportunity, with impulse prices
and good margins for a wide range of outlets including housewares, food

domestic food storage at a premium due to more and more people buying
fresh foods, and no other similar products on the market, Pack-Mate AnyLock
is guaranteed to be a huge retail success. Says the company.
Pack-Mate AnyLock is very easy to use. It takes just four simple steps
* Fold the bag
* Insert the rod tip under the fold

New
Fogo Tall Cabinet Offers Bathroom Storage Solution
The
new Fogo range has proved a hit, so Duravit
is following it up with the addition of another highlight to the existing
Fogo range - the new tall cabinet. 176 cm high, 50 cm wide and 42 cm deep,
it provides even more storage space in the bathroom.
The
8 cm-thick door takes up the characteristic Fogo design and at the same
time offers a bathroom storage solution: the inside of the door features
glass shelves with practical glass dividers for all those typical bathroom
odds and ends.
The Fogo range additionally features an 8 cm-thick furniture console,
complemented by Fogo console vanity units and containers on casters in
wood finishes. Light and dark real wood veneers -smooth Maple, highly
grained Olive Ash, American walnut and deep brown Macassar - court the
customer's favour.
For a perfect fit: cut-to-size console widths ranging from 80 to a maximum
200 cm with a depth of 55 cm cut a neat figure in small bathrooms and
really bring larger bathrooms into their own. Console basins or washbowls
simply rest on top, and the easy-to-clean console surface acts as a shelf
area. Fancy a double washbasin?
The Fogo console can easily accommodate two washbasins. Pullout vanity
units with an interior drawer fitted underneath the console on the left,
the right or on both sides create plenty of additional storage space.
The container on casters provides mobile storage space, fitted with panel
top, box drawer and an interior drawer.
As an alternative to the vanity units, towel rails manufactured from chrome-plated
steel fulfil their function, both from a practical and an aesthetic viewpoint.
Coordinating mirrors including a newly designed lamp for no-glare illumination
are available in slimline 60, 80, 100 and 120 cm widths.

Closet
Power
Shades
says that the practicality of bathroom cabinets is one of the most pertinent
market trends in the UK bathroom furniture market. Small UK bathrooms
dictate that we must look to get the best use out of our cabinets and
look for new ways to increase storage and help keep surfaces clutter free.
Shades has developed a neat solution to a common bathroom conundrum -
anybody with an electric toothbrush or razor will know how difficult it
can be charge up these small appliances without having unsightly wires
on display trailing from a shaving socket.
The Shades bathroom power point provides a solution. It tucks neatly into
the corner of a cabinet and razors and toothbrushes can be hidden away
to charge up out of sight. What's more, this compact little device can
also be used as a second point to switch the bathroom lights on and off.

EDP
- Everything for the Door
European
Decorative Products
(EDP) not only supplies foils for surface laminating and pressing, but
also an extensive selection of edging materials and handles from one of
Italy's leading design houses.
EDP's
Terry Willett says that the one aspect of their business is being able
to supply the very top international quality while the other is the crucially
important service aspect in terms of technical colour matching, as well
as the ability to supply in small quantities (if required) all to short
lead times.
EDP's foil supplier is Pentadecor (many in the UK will remember the companys
previous brand name Roxan) and its foils for membrane pressing offer the
finest ability, due to the complete rigid film that allows for very precise
profile definitions.
On a design front the company is producing colours and patterns that both
reflect and anticipate emerging trends and vogues. These include the new
Zebrano and Makassar Ebony decors, along with more contemporary pastel
colours including the Cappuccino and Beige Sand, as well as more striking
colourways such as Red, Black and Cream in high gloss PET.
Proadec edging from Portugal's Probos is at the cutting edge in terms
of materials, patterns and colour matching. Here again the emphasis is
very much on delivering exactly what the customer wants and needs when
he wants it.
Cosma is EDP's main handle principal and world renowned as one of Italy's
leading design and manufacturing houses. A careful handle choice
can be the line between success and mediocrity when it comes to a good
furniture range says Terry Willett. EDP demonstrates its ability
to offer service as part of the package with an on-line handle ordering
system to help manufacturers with samples or smaller orders.
