Kitchen and Bathroom Surfaces September 2006

Evocative, Innovative & Crafted to Last ..

Coco Bolo wood effect and Rusty Iron in the new texture, Extra Matt, are two of the highlights from the recently launched range of Resopal worktops. The new collection is a result of intense research work within the UK and European kitchen worktop market and comes on the back of a number of influential trade exhibitions.

‘Having the Resopal Design Centre based in Germany gives us a great opportunity to analyse kitchen trends first hand and be at the forefront of developing new designs to meet the trends and to some extent create new ones,’ comments Tim Sherman, Resopal Sales Manager. ‘Our innovative approach to design is far more intense than before. Each design is individual with its own dedicated surface finish and unique profiled edge.’

The new collection consists of 34 effects, from granites and stones to woods and solid surface look-a-likes, incorporating some of the industries most advanced surface technology. Profile 6 is the name given to the profiled front edge that has been specifically designed to offer high performance and compliment each design and surface finish.

The full range is stocked in 3 popular sizes, all in 3.6 metre lengths including 600mm worktops and 665mm and 900mm wide breakfast bars and is complemented by a selection of backsplashes and upstands. The 4 backsplashes are easy to fit and provide an attractive alternative to traditional wall tiles, whilst the 10 upstand effects help create a striking finish to the overall look of the kitchen. All Resopal worktops have been awarded the FIRA Gold Award, the supreme accolade of product excellence and are supported with a 3 year product guarantee.

Tim Sherman continues, ‘We now have one of the most complete kitchen worktop and accessory packages in today's market. A number of new promotional items are available including brochures, swatches and counter top displays with a fresh, new image.’

Mandalay Figured Teak from Cova

Cova Products manufactures the design leading Cova Press range of 3D formable pvc veneers. Throughout 2006 Cova Products has launched new effects which continue to advance the levels of realism with the quality and sophistication of their design. Now Mandalay PA, a figured Teak, has been added to the range, which has been produced to reflect and to influence an emerging trend for this woodgrain effect.

Teak is the 're-born' species of the moment. It was prominent at the ZoW exhibition in Bad Salzuflen, Germany, at the start of 2006, with experts predicting that this woodgrain design is set to become increasingly popular over the coming months.

Mandalay PA, is a figured teak with lots more character than many others currently available. As shown here, Mandalay PA has a rich warm colour which is ideal for both traditional and modern kitchens. Kronospan will soon be introducing an excellent MFC match to this newly launched product, with further matches from other leading MFC companies anticipated.

In the Thick and Thin of Things

UK supplier of edge-bandings to the trade, Cadre Components, has introduced a new range of high quality, thin ABS edge-bands to complement the existing upper market Döllken thick profiles.

The new thin edge-bands are also produced by Döllken to the same high quality standards and are easy to apply and offer workshop benefits as well as offering a highly durable solution which truly looks the part.

Quality is paramount, featuring .45mm thickness with a consistent and accurate print pattern together with the precise amount of embossing and glossing to suit the specific design. There is a choice of colours and finish options available from stock, designed to match international board finishes and in a standard 22mm width. The range includes established favourites such as white, grey, beech or maple together with 'trendy' finishes such as metallic or fino bronze and introduces a number of decorative concepts.

The new thin profiles are an addition to Cadre Components comprehensive range of edge-bandings which they hold in stock, including over 800 colours in 6,000 combinations covering a variety of different thicknesses and widths. Cadre Components offer the complete one-stop-shop service with next day delivery for the .45mm edgings and the top of the range profiles which include embossed textures and gloss finishes which are exceedingly popular at present as the market seeks new, 'different' design looks.

The market is also seeing a growth in square edged worktops that facilitate new and exciting design treatments, reflecting continental styles. So Cadre Components' service also extends to offering a specialist in-house production facility for the manufacture of wood panel products to assist kitchen and cabinet makers who wish to benefit from these specialist support services especially suited to the square edged worktops and inset designs being brought in from European kitchens.

New Bamboo Worktop Options From PWS

PWS has extended its timber worktop collection with 27mm thick bamboo. Bamboo's appeal lies in the distinctive grain and most interesting edge profile with this new thickness offering a streamlined look that highlights the inherent beauty of this exotic timber.

PWS offers its fully bespoke service on the 27mm bamboo as well as blanks 2.4m and 3m long, 620mm wide or alternatively a 2.4m long, 960mm wide breakfast bar option. Bamboo's staved construction is carefully crafted for strength and stability creating a unique pattern with rich variety of grain. A further benefit of bamboo is its natural resistance to moisture ingress.

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world and is annually renewable. One of the most environmentally sound worksurfaces available, plants harvested for PWS' bamboo range are strictly taken from the hundreds of bamboo species in China which are not eaten by the panda.

Comments Philip Eeles, PWS Worksurfaces Business Manager, 'bamboo is not a timber that consumers traditionally associate with worktops, however once they see it on display they are drawn in by its visual impact. As natural materials are so desirable, bamboo offers the best of both worlds, the warmth of natural timber combined with stunning looks. Our 40mm bamboo is proving immensely popular as it offers a real point of difference that consumers are increasingly aspiring to. The new 27mm option gives designers even greater choice and is completely in tune with the current trends in modern kitchen design'.
