Exceptional Colour Matching from EDP

British supplier of hi-tech surfacing and edging materials to the furniture industry, EDP, has introduced a colour matching service for foils and edgebanding in association with the company’s principals Pentadecor and Probos.

Cutting edge new digital scanning technology at Pentadecor's German laboratories allows EDP to supply board samples used by customers from any of the main board suppliers such as Egger, Kronospan and others to create an identical colour and pattern match in the foil. The system allows the fast production of a colour match with exceptional results.

EDP says that this allows the company the chance to offer its UK and Irish customers an exceptional service. Samples can be produced in 2-3 weeks and production of foils can be delivered in 5-6 weeks. Thereafter EDP will hold UK stocks for minimum order requirement on a 7 day delivery. Orders can be down to a minimum of 1500 linear metres per décor, as an initial colour match.

Similarly EDP can supply an edgebanding matched service from Probos whose laboratories and production facilities in Portugal are equally high tech. Samples in either PVC or ABS can be produced and production of rolls in the Proadec brand follow shortly.

EDP's Terry Willett says: ‘This is a very exciting development. We have been working hard for quite a while to achieve this level of technical accuracy and matching service. Exact matching of foils to other surfaces has long been a problem with many furniture manufacturers. We're now in a position to rectify this.’

Duropal Back Panel Used in Paula Rosa Kitchens

Duropal's compact grade high pressure laminate proves popular with Paula Rosa's builder customers. Around 40% of Paula Rosa's contract kitchens uses this material as an upstand or splash back, neatly finishing the problem area between worktop and wall. Traditionally the area between worktop and wall cabinets is tiled. This 'wet trade' can be messy, quality is hard to control and costs vary. Using Duropal's one piece splash back, it is cut to size in the factory for easy fixing on site. The bottom edge is joined to the worktop with clear sealant. Any residue cuts away when dry; giving a neater seal than tiles as it is a straight, seamless edge.

Duropal back panels match Duropal worktops perfectly. The surface décor is the same on both sides so the product can be used as dividing panels. Being solid HPL, cut edges do not require edge banding for protection as the material is completely impervious to water. However Paula Rosa chooses to edge band the visible cut edge to match the surface, responding to customer requirements. Duropal back panels are as quick to clean and as hazard resistant as the worktop.

Paula Rosa was established in 1965 to make kitchens for local Sussex house builders and has since grown to be one of the largest high quality contract kitchen manufacturers. It works with developers in England and Wales and the company's design, supply and fit service is very popular. The standard of product, installation and service wins many repeat orders. The use of Duropal worktops and matching back panels demonstrates how practical design simplifies fitting while improving aesthetics and maintainability.

LG HI-MACS® for Worktops

LG HI-MACS® is a seamless and stain resistant surface that will give years of service. It is a natural acrylic stone made from a blend of 75% natural minerals and pigments set in an acrylic matrix.

This is an extremely hard wearing material which is surprisingly easy to machine in much the same way as solid wood and MDF. The material can be cut, joined or thermo-formed so that 3D items can be constructed from LG HI-MACS® sheets making them appear to be a solid, one-piece item.

So splash backs behind worktops, draining boards, sinks and other surfaces all appear totally seamless. This has both hygienic and cleaning benefits.

Scratches are not easy to impose but simple to remove. In the unlikely event of more serious damage the material is fully repairable. So, therefore, it is a good surface for direct food preparation. Installed by an approved LG HI-MACS® fitter, the material carries a 15 year warranty.

LG HI-MACS® comes in a wide range of colours and effects from solid tones to granite, quartz, sand and pearl effects and including an exciting new Volcanics range.
There are also some translucent effects, where back-lit panels can create focal points and design features. These are all high UV resistant and colour-fast.

For designers wanting to carry a theme through the kitchen LG HI-MACS® material can be used on the wall, on island front panels, inset into doors, for skirtings and plinths and even on the floor. For a solid surface it is affordably priced with worktops starting at £250 per linear metre.

From the point of view of pedigree, LG-HI-MACS® is used extensively in the commercial sector such as in healthcare, hotels, eating establishments, retail displays and the bathroom sector.

Naturaline Plum from EDP

The UK supplier of surfacing materials and components, EDP Ltd has introduced a new subtle foil from Pentadecor (Roxan) - Naturaline Plum.

The new Plum foil continues to reflect the strong growing trend and appetite for these finishes and surfaces. The grain is smooth, flowing and very discernable with a tinge of pink while remaining soft and subtle.

‘The effect of this gloss Plum door in combination with subtle tone carcase panels is stunning,’ says EDP's Terry Willett. ‘Ideal board colours that best offset the Naturaline Plum are colours like Egger's Alabaster (U104), their Vanilla (U108) and their elegant Sand Beige (U153).’

True to the company’s central ethic of customer service, the Natualine Plum along with all other significant colour ways and woodgrains are available on a 7/10 day service in 200m rolls with a respective width and thickness of 1420mm and 0.35mm.

Both PVC and high gloss PET colour ways are stocked by EDP. These include White; Vanilla Cream; Cappuccino; Bordeaux Red; Sepia; Mocha; Black; Sahara Sand Beige.

EDP's Terry Willett says that customers have come to discern the differences in surfacing quality and how that translates to their products:

‘Now having the opportunity to source some of the best quality PVC and PET foils in the world from a local supplier in minimum quantities and to short lead times should give many of the UK's top door and cabinet furniture manufacturers a distinct advantage. It's a simple phone call away’.

FGI Announces a Revolution in Glass

Float Glass Industries (FGI) has been appointed as the main UK and Ireland distributor and fabricator for Decoran and Structuran, new 100% recycled decorative glasses which are environmentally sound and provide a totally sustainable solution - an increasingly important consideration in the modern building industry.

A unique and versatile material, Decoran is available in a variety of colours, textures and degrees of opacity, translucency or partial transparency for use in a wide range of applications such as partitions, screens, doors, furniture, counter tops, lighting, kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Structuran, the sister product to Decoran, has roused a great deal of interest from the building sector where it is specified for exterior rain screen cladding and facades where considerable meterage of the product is used.

Following the product's successful debut at the recent 100% Detail exhibition in London, FGI's Chairman, Roy Offland said, ‘These products are a major milestone in glass development worldwide and an exciting opportunity for FGI and for other glass processors.’ He continued, ‘Due to the level of interest and demand for the products to be supplied processed, FGI is looking to appoint regional glass processors and distributors across the UK and Ireland. We are keen to hear from companies who, like us, are ambitious for profitable growth and have the machine capability themselves to cut, drill and polish glasses over 15mm in thickness to supply their own customer base.’

The Decoran and Structuran range have many special attributes, not least being 100% recycled from glass cullet. The opaque products, similar in appearance to marble, have a unique 3D appearance which have superb light enhancing qualities as well as anti-stain, anti acid qualities and surface wear resistance, ideal for bar surfaces, reception desks, counter & table tops.

Produced in 2.8m x 1.26m sheets of 14 - 40mm thickness with 20mm as the standard thickness, Decoran and Structuran are available in a variety of colours including Anthracite, which has an appearance similar to black marble, or with a choice of translucency or pattern. Several products in the range can be supplied with highly polished surfaces or matt 'hammered' finish. Cutting is by diamond saw or waterjet, and edge processing and drilling are carried out as for normal float glass.
