Latest Looks in Granite from PWS

Consumers are becoming more discerning in their worksurface choice. Increasingly the move is towards natural and solid materials and PWS has responded with a collection of interesting granite options with the company’s hallmark point of difference.

Black continues to be extremely popular and the new Black Beauty blends black and mixes a range of warmer browns and reds with dramatic veining to create a look that exudes luxury and sophistication. Another newcomer is cosmic black leather which has a visually appealing surface uniting a beautiful textured finish with a rich tactile quality.

Comments Andrew Langford, Marketing Manager at PWS, 'In terms of colour trends natural tones are leading the way with creams and browns becoming increasingly popular with consumers. Despite this trend towards more earthy tones, black is still the classic colour with granite, although with our new additions we have introduced variations in veining and colour mix, with texture playing an important role. The leathering effect is proving particularly popular.'

Prima's New Riverwash Texture

The tactile Riverwash texture is a new entry to Bushboard's new Prima 40mm laminate worksurface collection.

'Design technology meets worktop manufacturing expertise in this innovative 3D texture that's warm to the touch and sophisticated on the eye', the manufacturer says.

'The gently undulating texture is rounded and smooth, inspired by water running over stones'.

Riverwash is refined, yet at the same time captures the raw appeal of natural materials. For laminate worktops, this is a significant design advancement underlining laminate's versatility in the premium mid market as an alternative to granite.

Drawing on the success of high gloss as a comparison, Bushboard is confident of the role that texture plays in heightening the perceived quality and design appeal of laminate worksurfaces.

Says Neil Horton, commercial director at Bushboard:

'Texture is central to contemporary kitchen design, whether sleek and shiny or matt and textured finishes. Riverwash answers this with its warm, 3D texture and gives designers something totally fashionable and exclusive to work with.'

Living up to its tagline of 'feel the beauty', Riverwash exudes design exclusivity. It's available on six new stone-inspired decors selected to offer the designer a fashionable contemporary palette. The versatile neutral tones include white, beige, stone, grey, chocolate and black. The six decors are titled Snow, Latte, Berne Stone, Smoke, Espresso and Black Granite.

The six Riverwash designs are part of the newly launched Prima 40mm worksurface collection. Prima now offers 50 designs, including 14 new additions, in a choice of 3m, 3.6m and 4.1m lengths in widths of 600, 665 and 900mm. For retailers there is a comprehensive merchandising support package that includes a 20 page
brochure, A6 samples and laminate swatches, along with a freestanding display stand containing the entire range in 195 x 135mm sample blocks. Stone - An Imperial Choice

The photograph depicts the only 'full product' display, at the Stonetheatre Waterloo showroom, of a Poggenpohl kitchen featuring 'Marron Emperador' marble for work surfaces.

The wall cladding is vein cut Noce Travertine. Vein cut stone has more movement and character in appearance than cross-cut.

'Marron Emperador' marble is light brown in colour with white spar markings and is a middle hardness of marble requiring slightly more maintenance than others and is used by several prestigious kitchen manufacturers. Although marble surfaces have been traditionally used for both bathrooms and kitchens in Italy for hundreds of years, in the UK, granite remains the preferred choice for kitchens.

In Italy, olive oil was traditionally regularly wiped over the marble surface in kitchen applications both as a cleaning process and protection although this has now been replaced by more modern cleaning methods and protection processes.

The Stonetheatre showroom at Waterloo also has a darker brown version of this marble; 'Marron Imperial' on display in slab form measuring 3.1m x 1.7m in size to fully demonstrate the beauty of this stone.

The Stonetheatre showroom is dedicated to stunning displays of natural stone, with marble, granite, travertine, slate and limestone from around the world to assist potential clients, architects and designers to make a more informed choice.

A feature of the showroom - and to the forefront in the picture - are river washed Waterloo pebbles. The Poggenpohl unit is sited on a flooring made of Leonora Limestone Advice on the maintenance of marble and granite is available from the Stonetheatre showrooms located both in London Waterloo and Cirencester.

For further information on the Stonetheatre log onto the website at http://www.stonetheatre.com alternatively telephone the London showroom on 0207 021 0020 or email London@stonetheatre.com. The showroom is open from Monday to Saturday 9am - 5.30pm, closed all day Sundays.

IDS Expands Premier Solid Surface Offer with New Hanex Brand

Recognising that solid surfacing has become a key worksurface material, IDS has expanded its portfolio with the launch of the premium Hanex brand of solid surface.

With a palette of 55 designs, Hanex offers designs and colours to suit today's changing trends throughout the home. 32 reflect best sellers in the market and match existing commercially proven colours, while the remaining 23 are exclusive designs in step with colour trends evident in the kitchen and bathroom sector.

Within the 25 exclusive designs is the Galleria range which replicates granite thanks to its translucency. With the inclusion of larger chips giving excellent visual depth, Hanex can offer an authentic alternative to granite.

Solid surface offers greater advantages for bespoke fabrication and design freedom over any other worksurface material. Unlimited design flexibility ensures kitchen designers can create thicker slab worksurfaces, large island units, interesting shapes, drainer patterns and flushfit or undermount sinks with completely invisible joints. Ultimately solid surfacing gives the designer absolute versatility to achieve a seamless look and feel.

Andy Sutton, Business Development Director at IDS comments: ‘We've been selling solid surfacing now for five years and we've seen significant growth in both templated solid surfacing and pre-fabricated blanks. To meet market demand, we're introducing the Hanex range so we can give customers a wider depth and breadth of colour choice.’
