Alira - A Kitchen Tap of Refined Steel and Convenience

Alira by Grohe is a one-lever sink mixer tap incorporating technology that enables the user to control both water temperature and water flow single-handedly. It combines clean lines and contemporary design with reliability and functionality.

Alira's swivel spout and the pull out spray offer the kind of flexibility expected of a modern kitchen fitting. The pull out spray takes water to wherever it is needed in the sink. The user can then select between spray or aerator mode. The spray is useful for removing food residue and obstinate waste from a plate or pan, whilst in aerator mode, the flow of water is softened to prevent splash back, especially when using water from a high pressure supply. Alira automatically reverts back to the aerator setting as soon as the tap is closed.

Temperature control is greatly enhanced by the light-action lever action, and the design's high-tech surface finish will add a contemporary yet timeless touch to any kitchen.

The Grohe Alira kitchen mixer costs around £290 including VAT.

Grohe showers and taps are available from quality bathroom studios and merchants nationwide.

Abode Aquifier Filter Taps

Abode's filter kitchen taps Gosford and Atlas were launched recently with a 1000 unit trade promotion offering displays of the new Abode Aquifier water filter system to showrooms. Having entered the market Abode now intends to ensure that the sale of its Aquifier range is a priority at all of its distributors throughout 2004.

'We may appear to be late to the market, but our innovations have been designed to exceed all other specifications available and since filtered water consumption is a huge growth area in the UK, the products are priced to introduce the product category to the broadest possible market.' comments Darren Holliday.

The growth of the bottled water market speaks for itself and that trend is irreversible, indeed the branded marks have become a fashion statement which the filter tap market can benefit from. The cost of bottled water is legendary and households are now looking for a more economic way of having a permanent supply of high quality filter water 'on tap' which is where our industry takes over.

The Aquifier range of water filter taps offers two of the most popular Abode designs with an added third source of crystal clear filtered water on tap. The Aquifier 'Atlas' in chrome and brushed steel and the 'Gosford' in chrome and brushed steel along with English Gold and Antique Bronze finishes are now available. Affordability and running costs are key and Abode has come into the market place with a 2500 gallon capacity filter, designed in a slim body to aesthetically look attractive in the kitchen, with the real cost to the consumer working out based on the replacement of the filter every six months, at less than16p per day.

'Abode's Aquifier filter unit is an Activated Carbon - Resin filter designed to work in both hard and soft water areas, improving taste and removing dissolved metals, chlorine and pesticides that may work their way into the domestic supply. They also significantly reduce lime-scale build up to help our customers keep their water using domestic appliances for longer.' claims Holliday.

Abode - The Shape of Things to Come

Abode has recently introduced seven new mixer tap products which the company says will move the current range forward and will blend into a variety of kitchen styles available today.

Following on from the success of 'Indus' is 'Galileo with its absolute square styling produced in highly polished chrome which will complement the minimalist kitchen, with its clear cut lines and angled hot and cold control valves.

The new Quadro models have a unique shape with the body being a figure 8 outline. The options available being that you can either have a full pull out spray spout, or the fixed spout which can be mounted adjacent to or through the sink unit.

Two further models recently introduced are contemporary single lever mixer taps the first with the control both for flow and temperature on the side of the spout fitting into the kitchen sink unit. The second has the same simplistic lines in two parts with the mounting designed to go through the work top.

Abodes entry into the serious cooking arena is the professionally styled catering mixer tap created to fit into the home. With two models both having the high swan neck pull out spout and flexible hose and spray rinse, one has regular controls while the other has the added benefit of a single lever attachment giving single handed temperature and flow control.

All-in-One Luxury Showers set to 'Revolutionise' Britain's Bathrooms

Roman and Aqualisa have developed a complete all-in-one shower system, the Roman TSC (Total Shower Concept).

The companies say that this top-of-the-range shower cabinet, including electronic thermostatic valve, body jets, and pump, is set to revolutionise bathrooms nationwide.

It arrives complete, and fits in the corner or alcove of any room, straight from the box, in an afternoon.

The enclosure is available with a gleaming White or Bright Silver frame, with clear unprinted or blue glass, and a Quartz shower with body jets, red flashing LEDs, and an on/off remote switch which can be sited up to 10 metres away. The two body jets are fully adjustable to give an invigorating shower.

All the components simply screw or push together. There is no need for tiling, drilling large holes in walls, feeding pipes along impossible spaces, or forcing together items which were not designed for each other.

To be precise, rigid wall panels are pre-drilled for the accompanying Aqualisa Quartz control - fit flush to the corner walls; push-fit plastic pipes drop invisibly underneath the integral shower base, and link to the Quartz processor box (with optional pump) in a discreet pull-out drawer. Flexible piping then leads to the nearest hot and cold pipes, and the stylish glass enclosure completes the job.

The pumped version of the system also requires a 3amp power supply.

David Osborne, Marketing Director of Roman said: 'A plumber can install it in two hours; a DIY enthusiast in four. And, given the calibre of the manufacturers, they know it will actually fit - and all aspects of the product carry a five year guarantee.'

Quadrant options are designed for a corner situation and Bi-fold door options are available for alcove situations - both are available in either 800 x 800mm or 900 x 900mm; Quartz is the very latest in shower design and features an easy to use, one touch control and the red flashing LED tells the user when his or her perfect shower temperature has been achieved.

David Osborne said the Roman TSC is the result of over a year of intense collaboration and development between Roman and Aqualisa.

'The shower enclosures are devised from Roman's high quality range,' he said. 'Well proven, attractive, door technology is backed up by new bespoke wall mouldings which negate the need for tiling. All panels are securely fixed, and sealed for complete watertight integrity.'

Martyn Denny, Marketing and Sales Director at Aqualisa said: 'The technological advances made with Quartz lends itself ideally to this concept. The Roman TSC is an exciting, innovative product that offers a quality, high performance, stylish shower solution.'

The Triton T100E Care Shower

Triton’s T100E Care is an electric shower designed specifically for the local authority and care markets.

The T100E combines easy to use functions with stringent safety features to make it suitable for the elderly or those with special needs, and is supported by an after-sales service.

The streamlined design of the T100E echoes that of Triton’s standard showers to ensure that it does not look out of place in a domestic bathroom, while a number of modifications make it easy to use.

The shower is operated by selecting the power setting using large push buttons, each of which feature indentations and LED displays to help users choose the correct programme. A separate start/stop button is situated away from the other buttons allowing it to be more easily located. The extended temperature selection lever makes the shower easy to operate even with elderly or arthritic hands.

For added safety, the T100E Care has a phased shutdown feature, which flushes any hot water out of the unit after showering and ensures that the temperature remains constant for the next user.

The T100E Care shower also features an extended riser rail allowing the sprayhead to be positioned for use in a standing or seated position, and the reinforced extended hose allows a carer to manoeuvre the sprayhead around the person showering.

The T100E Care electric shower is available in a white/ chrome effect finish, and has a power rating of 8.5kW.

As with all showers in Triton’s care range, which includes the LP and HP Care mixer showers and the Millennium Care electric showers, the T100E Care is supported by a dedicated Technical Service and Support team.

Local authorities and housing associations can contact the team directly using special telephone lines and email addresses to report any service requirements, which will be dealt with as a matter of priority. Call 02476 325491 to contact the team.

Mira Advance Shower Range Meets Caremark for Special Needs

'BEAB CARE mark' has been launched by BEAB (British Electrotechnical Approvals Board) to offer a new standard of safety for electrical goods for use by the elderly, young or infirm. Thermostatic electric showers are the first product type to be tested and certified. Mira's Advance ATL thermostatic electric shower is the first to receive the mark for all showers in the range.

The mark is given after independent testing by BEAB to verify operating safety and temperature control. The standard has been developed by the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA) in co-operation with leading manufacturers. It is based on additional technical requirements to fulfil the needs of the care sector.

'BEAB CARE mark certification for showers comes at a time when the issue of bathing safety has been raised by the ODPM (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) announcement of a review of the Building Regulations,' commented Roger Crabb of Mira, on the award of the mark. 'Advance ATL electric showers are already used widely in the care sector and the Mark will offer ease of selection and reassurance.'

All of the Mira Advance ATL models are easy to use and adjust. The Advance ATL Flex model, however, has been specially designed to meet the needs of carers and those in their care. The Advance ATL range is thermostatically controlled, so ensuring a safe and stable showering temperature irrespective of changes in incoming water pressure or temperature. A sensor within the shower reads the water temperature 62 times per second and adjusts the outgoing shower water to within ± 1°C.

The Adjustable Temperature Limit (ATL) allows the shower to be set to one of eight maximum temperatures. These temperature settings range from 37° to 48°C and protect the user from selecting an unsafe showering temperature. This adjustable temperature limit is set by the fitter during installation and for special need use can be set to 41°C, the DO8 recommended temperature.

The Advance ATL Flex is particularly suitable for installations where the user requires safety, comfort and control. An extended lever makes selecting the temperature easier and the push button controls respond with an audible ' beep'. A two metre hose, with a one metre extended slide bar and an additional handset holder, offer more flexible showering, for example they are ideal for use with a showering seat or a wheelchair. The handset has a rubber finger grip giving ease of handling and four choices of spray patterns.

Electric showers give flexibility where an additional shower is to be fitted in a home adapted for an elderly or infirm person. They need only mains water, drainage and electrical connections, so that installation work and changes to the plumbing system are minimal.

New Kohler Falling Water Brassware

Kohler offers a broad range of bathroom brassware, from the traditional to the contemporary and iconic and has recently launched three new ranges.

The current range (launched in 2003) features water delivery solutions. These include Laminar, Vas and Bol.

Laminar has a modern minimalist design, and through its flow technology delivers a solid stream of water which fills the bath or basin without splashing. It can be ceiling or wall mounted or comes as an integral feature of the Purist mirror cabinet.

Vas and Bol are Kohler's ceramic mixer taps, which create a visual display as water fills the tap body and gently cascades from the spout.

Also available is a range of coordinating built-in thennostatic shower valves.
The new ranges are being introduced in response to retailer requests. They broaden the Kohler brassware range to include contemporary European design, as well as a new distinctive wall mounted product, suitable for use with Kohler Vessels.

Doji and Elosis are two WRAS approved single lever monoblock ranges, which both offer a range of four products for basin, bidet and bath. Selling prices will start at around £90 excluding VAT.

Falling Water is a range of ergonomic and attractively styled wall mounted brassware, suitable for use with Kohler Vessels or other basins.

Kohler brassware is made in Kohler factories and undergoes extensive testing. Benefits include: washerless ceramic valving - which is resistant to hard water and debris for a longer tap life, solid brass construction and Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) technology on Nickel and French Gold products - which creates a finish that has high resistance to scratching, tarnishing and corrosion.

Basin brassware features flexible connections and pre-assembled handles on valves for easy installation.

A new Kohler brochure and updated website include the full range of brassware. Also available are technical sheets for every product, featuring pressures and flow rates, approvals, finishes, materials and detailed technical line drawings.

Pegler Launches New Anti-Scald Valve - Peglertherm 402UA Meets TMV3 Specification

Since launching a range of anti scald products in 1995, Pegler has continued to develop the requirement for their maintenance and servicing. Following the success of the Peglertherm 402H and 402U in-line thermostatic controllers, Pegler has launched the Peglertherm 402UA which includes two angle combination valves.

This new in-line thermostatic controller is based on the 402U design with additional features that allow for easier servicing and maintenance. Like the 402H and 402U, the 402UA has been designed to meet the National Health Service Estates (NHSE) engineering standard DO8 and the Health Guidance Note (HGN) that refers to a type 3 valve as specified by the Thermostatic Mixing Valve Scheme (TMV3 Scheme).

The Peglertherm 402UA has been tested by the WRc under the auspices of the TMV3 scheme following tests outlined in the DO8 standard. It has been approved suitable for applications in washbasin, bidet, shower, bath and assisted bath categories, ensuring safe delivery of hot water across the whole washing spectrum.

So where should the 402UA be specified?

The Peglertherm 402UA is designed to be fitted in applications where the control of hot water temperature is required in order to prevent scalding. If for any reason the cold water supply fails, the product is designed to automatically shut off the hot water supply. It is intended for use particularly in those applications where the users may have slower reactions or are not aware of the possible risk of scalding, in particular, young children and the elderly, and in residential homes and hospitals.

In addition to scald prevention, the Peglertherm 402UA also offers the benefit of shutting off the cold water supply in the event of hot water supply failure, thus preventing the unpleasant shock of cold water.

The Peglertherm 402UA is simple and quick to install and can be fitted in any orientation, having Hot, Cold and Mix marked on the body to assist the installer. The angle valves also have Filter marked on the body to indicate its location for removal and cleaning purposes. The 90° combination angle valves can be rotated at the union connection to give a variety of fixing positions.

The angle valves are fitted to the hot and cold inlets and incorporate isolating valves, removable Filters and inspection and test ports. The test ports have a removable plug that allows temperature and pressure gauges to be attached for the commissioning and servicing of the valves. These features provide a convenient servicing point and enable a reduced down time for the client.

The 15mm 402UA version comes with two 15mm compression ends on the angle valves and 22mm compression end on the mixed outlet. The 22mm compression end can be adapted to 15mm with the reducing set that is supplied. The 22mm 402UA version comes with 22mm compression ends on the angle valves and the mixed outlet.

The Peglertherm 402UA is supplied pre-set at approximately 43°C, however adjustment can be made to deliver a mixed temperature of between 38°C and 46°C (or 30°C and 50°C outside TMV3 applications). The adjustment mechanism is fitted with an anti tamper resistant cap to prevent any unauthorised adjustments.

The Peglertherm 402UA is manufactured to Pegler’s stringent quality standards with each product being guaranteed to deliver safe hot water and backed by the Pegler Customcare service pledge.

Hansgrohe Reinvents the Modern Shower with Raindance

Introducing the world’s first personal hand shower in 1928 and the first adjustable hand shower - Selecta in 1968, Hansgrohe went on to invent the Shower Panel® and first Shower Temple concept in 1989.

Today, 75 years and over 100 international design awards later, Hansgrohe says it has once again broken the mould with the introduction of Raindance – offering a dramatically different design, enhanced functionality and total versatility. In conjunction with the rotatable showerhead holder – called Raindance Allrounder - the hand shower is transformed into a complete shower system, offering a hand, overhead and side body shower all in one product.

Created for Hansgrohe by Phoenix Product Design, the Raindance hand shower has soft curves, an elegant flattened silhouette and reverses the traditional head and handle proportions. The Raindance handle has been shortened for easier ergonomics, so that even smaller hands can comfortably adjust spray modes, while the shower head has been increased to a generous 150mm for greater shower enjoyment – proportions usually only found on fixed overhead showers.

Raindance offers five spray modes including the Whirl Massage spray with three individually rotating jets. The combined effect is an intense spray that powerfully massages the skin when held close to the body. The five spray settings, from gentle rain through to whirling massage, provide the full spectrum of sensations.

The Allrounder has been designed so that the large Raindance shower head can be optimally utilised and provide hand showering as well as overhead and side body showering all in one product.

The Raindance Allrounder holder works by gripping the shower head not the handle and blends the hand shower and holder into a single unit. This allows the shower to be freely moved into an infinite variety of positions using just one hand. The showerhead has an optional ‘Soft-Grip’ rim made of translucent silicon which prevents the unit from slipping when it is positioned vertically for use as a side body shower, or horizontally as an overhead shower.

Even with this flexibility, the Raindance Allrounder does not require much space so can be used to upgrade most showers. A corner version is also available and ideal for installing in smaller shower cubicles. Showers also feature anti lime-scale technology in the form of an easy to clean filter and Rubit de-scaling system.

An alternative to the Allrounder is the new, extremely flat Raindance Unica Wall Bar. This wall bar has an integrated hose guidance system to prevent the hose moving about and makes for a sleek, attractive appearance. The hand shower slides effortlessly up and down on the bar to the desired position and two wall bars can be joined together to provide one continuous rail, allowing the hand set to be adjusted for use lower down as a side shower on the lower half of the body.

All Chrome or chrome with Soft-Grip rim made from translucent green silicone.
