Preview of Additions to Ideal Standard's Successful Bliss Range

During September, Ideal Standard previewed three new design options for its successful Bliss range of frameless shower enclosures at the London design exhibition, 100% Design.

The designs that are under consideration for inclusion into the range come from the Ideal Standard design-centre in Italy and are an intriguing mix of shapes and materials, sensitively linked to create a feeling of light and space within the bathroom.

By adding a gentle curve, the designers of the Bliss Arc enclosure have created a footprint that gives extra space to the user, without making excessive demands on floor space. The final design-touch is provided by the circular wooden standing-platform that sits in the co-ordinated ceramic shower tray.

The curve theme is reflected in the Bliss Contour enclosure which features expanses of free-flowing naturally curving glass complemented by the silver finish to the wall profiles, hinges and shower kit.

The Bliss Peninsular enclosure is a full semi-circle and features doors made up of two pieces of curved glass, to give a feeling of opulence, freedom and space. All of the new Bliss enclosures have their own co-ordinating ceramic shower trays and carry practical as well as aesthetic features. Each enclosure features rise and fall hinges for easier access and an 'easy-clean' coating with a two year guarantee. Bliss enclosures come in a variety of dimensions ranging from 800mm to 1200mm.

Full details can be found in the newly launched Ideal-Standard Bliss brochure. For further information please call Ideal-Standard on 01482 346461.

Not Starck, Starck X

In the same way that the letter X in maths stands for the unknown quantity, here it symbolises a completely new design dimension as Philippe Starck again tackles the subject of the bathroom for Hansgrohe. With 17 products in total, all in polished chrome, the new Axor Starck X collection of mixer taps and matching fittings has no reference points, no models. Reduced design contours with no frills conflict with tangible opulence.

Geometrically-cut cuboid forms repeat throughout the various models. ‘Operation is by precisely formed joystick levers that add a sense of spirituality to the simple ritual of washing; water gushes from the tap in a waterfall style as if through the crevice of a rock.’ Says the company. ‘The even, smooth surface in polished chrome matches the pure geometry of the body of the tap, presenting the highest standard of design and precision quality manufacturing.’

As with all Axor collections, there is a wide choice of models to suit different bathroom schemes. Four heights of single lever basin mixer are designed to fit with various basin options, each has the same wide head which hides the view of its base and seems to hover freely above the sink like a plateau.

There is also a wall-mounted basin mixer in co-coordinating geometric design.

Bidet and bath/shower mixers are also joined by a new kitchen mixer.

There is also a new shower panel called Waterwall that embodies the same reduced, but rich design ethic.

When examined head-on, the Axor Waterwall rectangular panel with its clean, straight lines appears as monumental as a sheer wall. The effect is enhanced by the fact that the mixers and shelves are tucked away behind the panel. At the same time, the Axor Starck Waterwall is packed with integrated elements - from a thermostat to a wide-pattern overhead shower with AIR technology right through to six body sprays and a slim microphone style hand shower with two spray modes.

Philippe Starck has also worked with Duravit to produce a matching collection of basins, WCs, bidets, baths and shower trays to enable a completely co-ordinated Starck X designed bathroom.

Ideal Standard Redefines Walk-In Shower Design

Serenis from Ideal Standard is a range of four walk-in shower enclosures which were on show at this year's 100% Design Exhibition in London.

This new range is the product of the London design house PearsonLloyd, combined with Ideal Standard's manufacturing skills.

The elegant Serenis 360° shower enclosure is sculpted into an arc from sheets of crystal clear glass almost six and a half feet tall.

The intelligence of this design can be seen in the structurally integrated water-delivery system in the 3600 and 1800 enclosures.

The system incorporates an external as well as an internal valve allowing the user to operate the water supply before they enter the shower removing any cold water held in the pipes and warming-up the showering area.

Ideal Standard's new 'in-line valve' technology also gives control to the user who can choose to direct the water flow through the fixed overhead shower or the flexible hose.

The Serenis range has also been ergonomically designed to make the best use of the wet and dry spaces within and around the shower. Serenis includes a range of specifications to suit high or low-pressure systems.

For installers Serenis is straightforward to fit - installation is silicone-free. Visible chrome pipe-work and bracing brackets are also an integral part of the enclosure design.

The company says that Serenis will become an 'essential' for homeowners wanting to enjoy the style and minimise cleaning, the clear toughened 6mm safety glass comes with Easy Clean coating to reduce lime-scale build up.

The full Serenis collection comprises Corner, Alcove and Peninsular, options and a 'wet-room' version. Resting on metal feet, the Serenis enclosure sits perfectly within this environment. The Serenis 360° Corner enclosure is available as a right or left hand version.

Full details can be found in the newly launched Ideal-Standard Serenis brochure. For further information please call Ideal-Standard on 01482 346461 or visit http://www.ideal-standard.co.uk

New Additions to Axor Citterio

Two years have passed since Italian architect and designer Antonio Citterio created the Axor Citterio bathroom for Axor. Since then the company says that the bathroom collection has captured the minds and hearts of many people as an oasis of tranquility and created unprecedented sales demand.

Antonio Citterio followed one basic principle for the collection: richness in design. ‘That translated into high-quality design and craftsmanship, as seen in the large, glossy, flawless surfaces and precise contouring. It also means always meeting the most demanding standards and offering the right solutions for all bathroom design challenges.’

To realise this vision, Axor and Antonio Citterio have continued working on the collection and introduced five new products for 2005. A 385mm tall single lever basin mixer has been developed for use with wash bowls plus a new range of wall-mounted mixers. These include single lever wall-mounted basin mixers with optional back plate and 2 hole wall-mounted bath mixers or 3 hole bath and shower mixers with a choice of lever or cross handles. The final flourish to the collection is a 90cm high frameless mirror.

The new mixers build on the contours of the current product range. They exhibit the rectangular shapes characteristic of Axor Citterio, interspersed with precise curves that deliberately break up the strict geometry. The new products, available in chrome or precious Platinum finish, will facilitate versatile and individualised bathroom planning solutions.

Six New Moons from Trevi

Showering technology is reflected in the choice of six new shower kits from the Trevi Moonshadow range.

No walls or pipework are identical and with this in mind Moonshadow connections have been designed to be as flexible and versatile as possible. Whatever the shower environment, be it replacement or new installation, Trevi has a choice of six Moonshadow shower kits to suit.

Depending on how the bathroom is plumbed, Moonshadow gives consumers the choice of water being supplied via the ceiling, a wall bracket, or standard wall elbow.

If the walls are uneven through undulating plasterwork, or the wall is tiled, the built in adjustable wall fixation bracket allows for connection to uneven walls with a tolerance of up to 9mm.

Another consumer benefit is in the extended length of shower hose. Moonshadow has been purposely designed longer (150mm as opposed to the normal 135mm) to accommodate taller individuals and to extend the hose further for showering little people!

The smooth metal effect hose available on all six models is easier to clean and gives a contemporary look.

The Moonshadow collection includes the following shower kits: In-line Valve shower kit complete with shower TT Ascari Central Therm control; Top Connection shower kit; Base Bracket shower kit; Standard Connection shower kit; Fixed Riser shower kit for exposed valves; and Fixed Riser shower kit for built-in valves.

Roman Allows Bath to Meet Shower

Roman, the UK shower manufacturer, has devised a new design for all those indecisive bath/shower lovers.

The Orbital Sliding Bath Enclosure is a flexible and stylish way to make an alcove into a watertight recess suitable for over-bath showering and tough enough even for the more powerful showers. The unit has a modern minimalist look very much in the fashion of today.

The enclosure is a complete screen fitted across the length of the bath with double sliding doors, which open in the centre. It provides a water-tight alcove, suitable for over-bath showering and secluded bathing.

When a high pressure showering system is fitted over a bath, the bath enclosure is the only way of ensuring total watertight integrity.

Water leakage is avoided using the Orbital Sliding Bath Enclosure, which is elegantly styled featuring clear 6mm glass and frameless doors with curved bolt through handles.

David Osborne, Marketing Director of Roman Ltd said, 'Sceptics would say that with the recent popularity of shower enclosures, bath enclosures are outdated.

But, there will always be a market for bath enclosures, since people want the flexibility of being able to take a bath or a shower. We believe with the Orbital Sliding Bath Enclosure we can provide a solution which caters for this and is an up to date modern design.'

Pole Position

With a generous showerhead, hand-held spray and powerful body jets, Bristan says that you can be sure of an all-over body soaking experience with its luxurious shower pole system.

Finished in stylish chrome, the shower pole is available in two contemporary designs - the cross-handled Quadrant or the mono handled Prism.

A matching range of taps is also available for each design - allowing you to create a fully coordinated luxury bathroom.

Bristan's shower pole is thermostatically controlled to ensure a steady flow of hot water that will remain within +/- 1°c of your selected temperature at all times.

A simple lever control diverts between the overhead shower or hand-held shower with ease, allowing you take a shower without getting your hair wet, while the clever rub-clean showerheads are easy to keep clean.

Built-in safety measures include a maximum pre-set temperature option as well as automatic shut-off in the event of water failure.

‘Besides its technological and functional benefits, the pure elegance of its sleek, streamlined design means this shower pole will enhance any bathroom interior - providing a stylish and elegant addition to your home.’ says the company.
