Collection 38 – The Original Modular Oven Range

Collection 38, a concept devised by De Dietrich, is a range of appliances that can be fitted into kitchen units, in any combination to give consumers a personalised cooking centre. Collection 38 enables the user to have for example, two ovens and a microwave (multi-function oven plus combination microwave) in whichever layout the user requires.

Collection 38, comprises the smallest pyrolytic multifunction oven on the market (although still large enough for a 9lb turkey), a full size microwave combination oven and steam oven with full electronic controls and eight pre-set temperatures. The concept was developed to meet the ever-changing needs of consumers in today’s market for convenience, ethnic and healthy foods. ‘Collection 38 offers maximum features with maximum flexibility in minimum space.’ says the company.

The 32 litre multifunction plus powerclean oven (DOP499X) features seven cooking functions including fan and conventional cooking and a defrost facility. It also has a Bio-grill, which electronically controls the temperature of the grill, for a more even cooking result. Other features include Powerclean self-cleaning feature with three cycles, Pyrocool door with four panes of glass for extra safety and Multi-start programmer with preset temperatures and delayed start.

The 32-litre combination-microwave (DME499X) is an oven that can microwave rather than the other way round. It has a drop down door and eight cooking functions including fan, grill and turbo grill. Its ample cavity can accommodate rectangular dishes up to 40cm wide and it also has a removable wire shelf. Other features include minute minder, delay timer and memory settings for favourite dishes.

The 23-litre steam oven (DOV499X) has a preset choice of temperatures for the best cooking results. Easy to install with no need for plumbing, it has eight temperature settings between 55 and 100 degrees C that enable the user to cook each food type at the best possible temperature/length of cooking time ratio to bring out the best flavour. For extra safety, it features an audible cut-off alarm when the water jar is empty.

As an added bonus, the clock on the control panel of each module can be switched off, so if required you can have just one clock on, giving it a much more integrated look.

Available in Stainless Steel. Each Collection 38 component may be bought separately and can be combined with any standard sized De Dietrich oven.

Intelligent Cooking by Ovenfeast and Bradshaw

How many times have you seen your carefully prepared food spoiled at the point of cooking as inexperienced operators press the wrong button on the oven?

When you take great pride in producing a top quality product it is annoying when the same product is spoilt by carelessness at the point of sale. This problem caused Jim McIntyre of The PieCo in Ireland serious concern when surveying the numerous outlets for his quality pie products. He had spent months researching the market for the best cooking equipment to match the needs of his pie users and chose the Amana brand of combination microwaves to meet his demanding needs. Together with Bradshaw Microwaves he developed a range of products with cooking cycles that delivered perfectly cooked products based on the advanced cooking programmes offered by the Amana combination microwave.

However, all too often, the wrong cooking cycle was selected at the point of sale resulting in over done products that had lost their unique quality.

Jim McIntyre approached Bradshaw with the problem and sought the company’s help in designing a cooking process that eliminated the errors in selecting the appropriate cooking cycle for consistently cooked products.

The solution to the problem was to develop a process where the food product could tell the oven how it should be cooked!

By using a 2D bar code system and integrating the scanning unit into the Amana oven a cooking process designed to eliminate mistakes from unskilled operatives was possible. It also enabled a wide range of communications and process controls to give 'Field to Fork' traceability, analysis and product recall, full POS information on product usage and the opportunity to introduce a wide range of new products with individually tailored cooking programmes without the need for oven reprogramming.

Benefits
The rapid intelligent cooking system with multi-step, combination cooking has a number of benefits for retailers:-
* it removes the ‘mystique’ of combination cooking,
* different food ingredients have different dielectric and thermal properties
* food ‘shape’ affects how a product cooks
* different foods and packages have different sizes and shapes and behave differently in the cooking process.

The rapid intelligent cooking system overcomes these problems by enabling the oven to identify, via the scanning process, the food, and its key-characteristics and to perform optimum cooking:
* it delivers the product optimally cooked and suited for direct delivery to the consumer
* it de-couples the cooking process from the operator, the cooking cycle is determined by the tag
* safety features are controlled by the tag
* product-expiry dates become a control feature
* product usage become a control feature (i.e. cannot be cooked twice)
* product ‘recalls’ can be effected via remote activation of the oven

The rapid intelligent cooking combination oven uses the following cooking principals in combination:
* ambient convection (forced hot air)
* conduction (pizza stone)
* microwave power (variable magnetron)
* time cycles (multi-stage process)

‘Our food technologists have identified how to use these characteristics to optimise the cooking process for a specific food-item, or combination of food items. Different food items can be cooked in combination.’ says the company.

Elements of Intelligent System

Cooking Process Software Module.
* This recognises the product via the scanning process and controls the oven cooking cycle to pre-determined, optimised, cook recipes.
* Completely automatic cooking cycle
* Via the scanning process, the software checks for expiry dates, whether product has been pre-cooked, ‘forbidden’ combinations of mixed products, etc.
* Various levels of capability (level 0 to level 3) offering solutions to small users as well as multiple site operators.

o Level 0 is a standard Combination Microwave
o Level 1 is a 2D bar code controlled Combination Microwave
o Level 2 also has full product analysis, usage and remote interrogation of the combination microwave for diagnostic testing
o Level 3 also has a full logistics capability for product reordering, POS information and is tailored to integrate with users computer systems.

Free those Rubber Gloves!

Only around 25% of UK households own a dishwasher. That means 75% of the nation are still slaving over a hot sink when there’s absolutely no need. ‘Dishwashers are more hygienic, use less water and free up hours every day and this year’s Bosch dishwashers are better than ever, making now a good time to rid yourselves of those rubber gloves once and for all.’ says the company.

The triple A rated premium Logixx range features multi ‘A’ wash, meaning improved cleaning across all programmes above quick wash. The three ‘Auto Clean’ buttons cut out the guess work when selecting a programme, using a system of hydrosensors to ascertain the best programme length and temperature for the load. Depending on whether you need a delicate or intensive wash, the Aqua Vario feature can vary the pressure, slowing down the spray arm down for a gentler wash, or speeding it up for a high pressure intensive wash. VarioFlex Plus baskets and a large item spray head mean that nothing need be left out of the dishwasher for washing up by hand. The baskets easily accommodate long stemmed glasses and even feature small item clips, ideal for egg cups, tupperware bowls, babies’ bottles and plastic lids.

There’s also Auto 3in1 on all Exxcel and Logixx models for those consumers who want to use 3in1 or 4in1 tablets instead of separate components. The dishwasher adjusts the programme temperatures accordingly, ensuring perfect washing and drying results every time.

Exxcel offers upper basket only wash, Auto Clean and Reduced Time and now features a heat exchanger ensuring the most energy efficient drying. The Rackmatic baskets mean the user can adjust the baskets up or down, even when fully loaded and newly designed wheels mean the baskets won’t come off their runners, all making your dishwasher more convenient than ever.

For a more simple machine, Classixx is the answer. For an entry level model, this has many more features than you may expect, so it really is an investment for the future. All Classixx dishwashers are also Triple A rated, using as little as 14 litres of water and feature height adjustable upper baskets , child lock and a choice of 5 programmes including a 35 degree Quick Wash which takes only 30 minutes.

If there’s not much space to accommodate a dishwasher, then there are 45cm options across the range in both white and silver. ‘In addition, Bosch’s table top Compact dishwashers have been re-designed, looking sleek and offering the best energy rating on the market.’ says the company.

‘All Bosch dishwashers are easy to load and use and as market leaders, you can be sure of the most advanced technology on the market as well as the reliability and quality you’ve come to expect from Bosch.’

More Than Twice as Nice

The new top-of-the-range double oven from Neff, model U1644, has two capacious oven cavities to choose from.

Features abound on this state-of-the-art appliance. The Revolution handle on both oven doors enables smoother & safer door opening, while the ClearText displays both provide easy to read guidance.

Neff’s CircoTherm system of fan cooking is the key culinary speciality of both ovens. Between the two, over 20 cooking functions are provided to cater for all foods and all occasions. A total capacity of 85-litres (58 litres in main & 27 litres in top) is offered by the U1644.

Electronic control with ClearText in both ovens guarantees excellent cooking results by maintaining the oven temperature at all times, despite fluctuations and the EasyClock makes setting the oven easier than ever before.

To ensure that the U1644 has enough lighting for you to keep an eye on what’s cooking - without opening the door - there’s an exclusive new feature called NeffLight in the main oven. This bathes the entire oven cavity in bright halogen light to see everything inside, on all three shelf levels at once.

A completely new system of flexible shelving, called FlexiRail is another innovation of the U1644. By unplugging the rails, you can actually move the shelves around in both ovens to tailor make the oven to suit your cooking requirements. A pair of telescopic rails is also included for even greater flexibility in terms of allowing you to access your cooking more easily.

And Neff has not forgotten about the all-important task of cleaning up either. New CeramiClean liners on the back, sides and roof of the oven cavity absorb grease particles to prevent the build up of fat over time. This means very little maintenance is needed after cooking and the liners will last for the lifetime of the appliance, so no replacements will be required. Also offered by this appliance are special cleaning settings operating on the same principle as pyrolytic oven cleaning but at much lower and safer temperatures.

Available in stainless steel or black to coordinate with other Neff appliances.

New ‘Time Saver’ AEG-Electrolux L86810

’If you never get to the bottom of the wash basket consider investing in the 7kg AEG-Electrolux Lavamat L86810.’ says the company. This washing machine can speed through 7kg of washing in only 99 minutes and still produce Energy Label ‘A’ wash results. Other highlights include the new weight sensor which tells you how much to load – and when to stop. This means you can make the most of every wash.

Most people never load their washing machine up to the max. That’s because they can’t quite believe what 7kg of clothes and laundry look like. If you were washing 7kg worth of T Shirts, you’d need 35 to fill up the machine. The weight sensor means you never ‘under-load’ – and washing at full capacity every time means you will get through the mountain of washing much more quickly.

While the New AEG-Electrolux Lavamat L86810 offers a handy 20 minute refresh programme, the really practical fast programmes to look out for are those which can wash seriously soiled clothes like the boys rugby kit, the school kit bag, the gardening clothes etc.

’This is where AEG-Electrolux’s technological advances comes into their own, bringing you fast programmes which wash perfectly – like the fastest ever ‘A’ rated Energy Label wash of 99 minutes. That’s over 15% faster than the next quickest machine. If time is really pressing, the Time Saver button cuts washing times even more – and you can wash 6kg load at 60 deg C in just 59 minutes.’

Top of the range model:
Lavamat L86810 ‘Weight Sensitive’ Time Saving Washing Machine
• Large 7kg load capacity
• Weight Sensor – weighs load so machine can be used to full capacity but not overloaded
• 1600rpm spin – helps reduce drying times

Magnetic Control Attracts Attention

A new addition to Neff’s award winning built-in cooking appliance range features a central removable magnetic knob for controlling all zone and temperature selection.

Not only is this more effective for cooking, but it is also much safer too - especially if there are young children lurking in your kitchen. When the hob is not in use, you simply remove the circular control and keep it out of range.

Called ‘Point & Twist’ – an exact explanation of how this new hob is activated - the T1583 provides four ‘Quick-light’ cooking zones and a useful memory function for five of your favourite recipes. To operate the hob, you simply ‘point’ it at the desired zone and then ‘twist’ to commence cooking.

At 80cm wide, the T1583 is designed to be teamed up with one of Neff’s extra wide cooker hoods for maximum extraction in the kitchen.

In smooth black Ceran glass with a stainless steel trim, the T1583 is the perfect partner for coordination with other Neff built-in cooking appliances.

The T1583 is also available in a 60 cm wide version as the T1543. Both models are from Neff’s extensive new ceramic hob collection for 2005.

Brandt FP229 'Easycook' Multifunction Pyrolytic Oven

Brandt says that each of its models offers features and benefits, usually only available in premium ranges, to a wider audience at competitive prices. ‘In addition, the comprehensive collection of built-in and freestanding products ensures that Brandt meets the needs of today's busy lifestyles.’

The Brandt 2005 ovens range features an 'A' rated multifunction pyrolytic single oven with 8 cooking functions: fan, conventional eco, conventional, pulsed conventional, pulsed bottom element [bottom element plus fan], pulsed grill [grill and fan], variable grill and warming function. There is an electronic programmer with preset cooking temperatures to make life easier also.

The new Brandt patented 'Easycook' cooking system acts 'intelligently' to make cooking really simple. Just choose the dish required - i.e. pizza, poultry, pies, fish and beef and the oven will select all the parameters i.e. the right cooking function, shelf level, temperature and duration for successful cooking results.

The oven also benefits from the Brandt patented Grill+ feature. Once selected, the grill is automatically activated five minutes before the end of cooking to brown the food, good for cheese toppings. This grill is variable, which means that the grill automatically adjusts from the lightest to the most thorough grilling levels dependent on the level of heat required. It also has an eco function, which allows the user to reduce the level of energy used by 20% on the cooking and pyrolytic options.

As it is a pyrolytic oven, it can also intelligently clean itself. With four layers of glass on the 'cold door', which automatically locks during the pyrolytic function, the 52-litre cavity can heat up to a temperature of 500 degrees centigrade and quite literally disintegrate the dirt and grease from the oven to a fine ash, which can be easily wiped away.

It also features digital clock displays, a minute minder plus a full range of accessories (2 anti-tip wire shelves, baking tray, grill pan and handle).
