A2-5
'Opera' Range Cooker from Smeg
Smeg
says it was one of the first companies to offer stainless steel range
cookers when it launched its 90cm, A1 'Opera' Range Cooker in 1997. Since
then the company has added 70, 100 and 120cm 'Opera' Range Cookers to
create a product portfolio which, when all the colour and hob configurations
(gas or ceramic) are factored in, consists of over twenty models for the
customer to choose from.
The company has recently added a distinctive analogue/LED clock programmer
to its range cookers, and this patented addition is an eye catching detail
of the A2-5.
Measuring 100cm wide, the A2-5 has two electric ovens, a six burner gas
hob and pull out storage drawer. The hob includes a combination of burners,
each equipped with automatic ignition plus safety valves that cut off
the gas supply to a burner in event of the flame being accidentally extinguished.
Heavy-duty cast iron pan stands give the hob a 'professional' look and
feel, and the A2-5 is adaptable for use with LPG.
The Main Oven (50 litre capacity) is fan assisted and has eight functions,
stay clean liners and a variable grill whilst the Auxiliary Oven (25 litre
capacity) is a static oven with six functions including rotisserie. Both
ovens have triple glazed safety doors that are removable for easy cleaning.
Optional extras include a stainless steel splashback (KIT1A2-2) and stainless
steel hood (K2).

DVI360X
ICS AAA Class 60cm Semi Integrated Dishwasher
One of the highlights of the 2003 builtin range from De
Dietrich is the DVI360X ICS 60cm Semi Integrated Dishwasher.
This
top of the range, 12 place setting dishwasher is -state of the art. It
is AAA rated for energy, wash and drying performance and has
an animated LCD control panel. In its ICS programme, its intelligent sensors
will assess the quantity and type of dirt on the dishes and calculates
the required amount of detergent and water. It sets the optimal temperature
and washing time that will maximise its performance at the lowest cost.
It has seven programmes: Boost, ICS (intensive) ICS, Delicate, Rapid and
Soak as well as the wAsh programme, which will do a slightly longer wash
at a lower temperature, which is ideal to take advantage of lower rate
electricity at night. It also has a delayed start of 1 to 12 hours for
convenience. It further benefits from being ultra quiet, with noise levels
of 45db, which means that the machine can be left on while the user is
asleep.
Six spraying levels with crossed rotational jets and an innovative design
of the upper and lower arms optimise water distribution. The lower arm
is boomerang shaped and has alternate spray nozzles to ensure
that water reaches dishes at the best possible angle throughout the entire
cavity. Also, there is a new 100% stainless steel filter system, which
is highly efficient. The smallest particles of dirt are tracked down on
four levels, sucked up by the microfilter and then expelled during emptying.
The filtering surface is 22% more than the industry standard making it
easier to clean and more accessible.
When it comes to drying, the machine uses a new concept: Turbo ventilation.
This is an accelerated drying method that leaves dishes extra dry. When
the door is opened, steam is totally absorbed leaving no trace of humidity
in the machine or on the dishes. However, if the machine is left unopened
for an extended period, the Eolyse ventilation turbine will activate for
five minutes every hour until the door is opened. This blows fresh air
onto the dishes and inside the cavity to prevent the build up of steam.
This results in completely dry dishes and a fresh clean smell.
The interior of the machine is designed for ease of use and maximum flexibility.
The adjustable baskets and collapsible racks mean that the lower basket
easily holds the largest containers, casserole dishes or saucepans. The
raised edge at the back of the rack enables 32 cm diameter dishes to be
easily positioned with complete stability. There is also a removable mezzanine
basket, which can be fitted on the lower rack to accommodate long knives
in one level and teaspoons in the other. There is also a stemmed glass
support.
Safety is paramount with De Dietrich products and this dishwasher comes
with Anti-Flood Total Safety.

The
Mercury Range Cooker from Mercury Appliances Limited
Mercury Appliances Limited claims
that the Mercury range cooker has been a tremendous on-going success since
its launch in January 2000. It was shortlisted in 2001 for the Homes &
Gardens V&A Classic Design awards and in 2002, was one of the international
winners of the Good Design Chicago Athenaeum Award. This range cooker
was created by designers Seymour Powell working alongside Mercury's skilled
design and manufacturing team who together created a blend of good looks
and practical features to enhance any kitchen. Sleek and minimalist in
design, yet robust in manufacture, the Mercury range cooker offers quality,
style and performance.
Hand crafted with attention to detail, the cooker has a one piece pressed
stainless steel hob with three 3kW burners, one 2kW burner and a powerful
5kW triple ring wok burner. The hob features heavy duty cast iron pan
supports in a cattle grid arrangement which allows cooking pans to be
moved safely across the whole hob area. There is a large (88 litre) multi-function
event oven and a slightly smaller (52 litre) weekday oven, both fitted
with removable stay clean liners and heavy gauge chrome plated wire shelves.
The cooker has a separate dual element grill compartment with a smooth
roller carriage. Ergonomic machined anodised hi-fi style control knobs
allow precision control for all the cooker's functions. Choices of finish
are silky reflective stainless steel, niello black or petrol blue enamel
as well as warm cream.
The multifunctional Mercury modular oven, launched last year and The Mercury
modular grill, launched this year offer style, quality and performance.
They can be used separately or suited together make a good cooking partnership.
They both fit into standard 600mm housing.
The Mercury modular oven
The smooth lines of the classic exterior and attention to every detail
of the interior are combined with the highest quality design standards
and high performance. All oven functions, the top and bottom elements,
fan, radiant grill and the integral delay and timer function, are controlled
by four ergonomically designed, hi-fi style machined aluminium knobs.
A full-width stainless steel cylindrical handle opens the oven door. With
a choice of silky stainless steel, or warm cream, niello black or petrol
blue enamelled colours, the oven will be at home in every style of kitchen.
The Mercury modular grill
The grill's powerful radiant element offers a choice of inner or complete
grilling areas and the two positions for the grill pan and the reversible
grill rack can be adjusted for any thickness of food to be cooked. The
smooth operating roller pan carriage, the same as that in the Mercury
range cooker, slides out to expose the entire grilling area so that food
can be safely turned with the grill pan in position. The grill has a silky
stainless steel finish.
Miele
Introduces Improved Version of IR 6001 Industrial Washer
Miele's
IR 6001 industrial cleaner has proved its worth in critical cleaning processes
in many branches of industry. It is used to wash, rinse and dry a wide
range of items from printed circuit boards and carriers, through high-value
metal componentry made from steel, brass or copper through to optical
glassware and lenses. It is also suitable for use in cleanroom applications.
Now, this machine has been improved and is more reliable than ever before
says the company.
As the IR 6001 is used in specialised applications in such a wide range
of industries, requirements also vary greatly, from a simple intermediate
wash (in the case of circuit-board carriers) to highly clean surfaces
ready for the application of final coatings (in the case of glass substrates,
drill bits and cutting tools) and even particulate decontamination under
cleanroom conditions (on boxes and chip trays in the electronics industry).
In order to adapt the machine to the cleaning challenge in hand, the machine
is fitted with electronic Micro Computer Unit controls (MCU). These are
not only simple to use, but can also be individually programmed and customised.
The controls offer 64 programme slots of which only 15 are already occupied
with standard washing and service programmes.
Electrical door lock ensures safety
Depending on the geometry of the parts, cleaning can take place on up
to four levels. The space-saving single-cabinet unit (1160 mm x 900 mm
x 700 mm = H x W x D) is able to provide an aqueous wash in approx. 30
minutes depending on the programme. The entire process, consisting
of main wash, rinse, final rinse and integrated hot-air drying takes place
in a closed cabinet with interior dimensions of 490 mm x 530 mm x 500
mm = H x W x D. Discontinuous batch-type operation allows the IR 6001
to be integrated into a production process.
These new, upgraded models feature an electronic door lock which cannot
be opened during either washing or drying: This ensures better worker
protection and improves process security by preventing manipulation of
cleaning results during processing. New, too, is a deflector plate fitted
where hot drying air enters the cabinet. It channels hot air downwards
so as to prevent the deformation of temperature-sensitive plastic components.
Cleaning programmes typically consist of several process stages. Metal
and glass processing, for example, requires an alkaline main wash at 65°C
to 80°C (max. 93°C) followed by acidic neutralisation, two rinses,
a final rinse and drying. At the beginning of each of these stages, fresh
water or process water from a storage container is taken into the cabinet.
From there, the water is circulated and sprayed onto the load via rotating
spray arms. Depending on the programme, chemical products such as detergent,
neutralising agent and corrosion inhibitors are dispensed automatically.
Process water is heated according to the specific requirements of the
programme. At the end of each process stage, water is discharged from
the machine into the sewage system, a water treatment plant or a supply
tank for recycling.
Process water reuse option
The process administrator can decide on how process water is treated.
The Duo drain system, an improved two-hose system, allows a choice of
destination. Water from the water tank can be reintroduced to the process,
reducing overall water consumption by 30% to 60%, depending on programme
design. An additional pump - a standard feature on the IR 6001
feeds process water back into the machine from the supply tank. With the
help of the Duo drain system, either rinse water or the suds solution
(water with detergent) can be reused.
A wide array of inserts for use in the cabinet is available to accommodate
items to be washed. Specially designed baskets are also available on request.

Monster
Micro Combi from Neff
A
new arrival from Neff is the H5970,
a combination microwave with a powerful maximum output of 1000W and a
large internal capacity of 34 litres.
The H5970 also has elegant aesthetics, thanks to its horizontal fascia
panel with Neff 'arc' design, colour co-ordinated controls and tubular
bar handle. This new model is a good companion for any Neff single oven
as it is available in a choice of stainless steel, black and white.
Unlike other Neff combination microwave ovens, models H7871 and H7881,
the 60cm wide H5970 does not require a separate trim kit for building
in to furniture and is versatile enough to be built-in to a tall housing
or below the worktop.
Features include moulded matt stainless steel interior, four shelf levels
and smooth self-cleaning catalytic back liner.
Traditional cooking options include fan cooking and quartz grilling, both
of which can be combined with microwave. In addition, there are a total

FPD34
Fridge-Freezer from Smeg
The
FPD34 fridge-freezer is the latest result of Smeg's
ongoing collaboration with Piano Design, a leading design practice. Available
in a choice of seven Japanese inspired colours, it has an ice-cold, high
quality stainless steel interior that is illuminated by three neon lights.
On castors, and with no unsightly grill visible on its rear, it may be
positioned anywhere in a kitchen or any other room.
Unlike traditionai fridge-freezers, that have two doors, Smeg's FPD34
has a single full height door that is opened by a sculpted handle that
makes an audible 'click clack' sound as it is operated. 'As with all aspects
ofthe design, this sound is no coincidence - it has been specially developed
to give a feeling of comfort and familiarity.' says the company.
Visually the 18/10 stainless steel interior of both the refrigerator and
freezer is as impressive as the appliance's exterior. The refrigerator
compartment has a stainless steel wine rack, plus four safety glass shelves
that are hygienic and easy to clean and the door houses four practical
shelves. A blue-etched LED display enables temperatures to be adjusted
with ease. The freezer has its own separate stainless steel internal door,
and baskets that are Rilsan coated to ensure a safe, hygienic and
rust-free environment for storing food. The bottom basket tilts forward
to enable easy access to its contents.
The FPD34 has a gross capacity of 351 litres, auto-defrost, and two separate
compressors that keep the appliance operating efficiently with four stars
and an 'A' energy rating.
Dimensions: 20cm (W), 66.5cm (D), 187cm (H). Left & Right hand hinges
available.

Extra-Wide
Induction Hob T4872 from Neff
The
speed and safety of induction cooking, coupled with the ease of cleaning
of a ceramic surface, has resulted in an increased demand for induction
hobs. Neff already offers two standard
60cm wide four plate models in its cooking range and the company says
that the extra-wide T4872 is a much-requested addition to the line-up.
Model
T4872 is 80cm wide and has four cooking induction zones on its smooth,
black ceramic glass surface. Edged in stainless steel, it features a curved
control panel with front mounted electronic touch controls.
Central to the T4872 is a rectangular warming zone for keeping food warm
after cooking. Four induction cooking zones, each with variable control,
surround this area. All four cooking zones have their own separate digital
display and the electronic touch control on/off operation is at the front
of the appliance.
Furthermore, the front two induction zones are able to heat up faster,
thanks
to the inclusion of a power boost facility. This is particularly useful
when food is required at short notice.
Safety is paramount on the T4872. Residual heat indicators on each zone
warn of the danger of any remaining heat by showing an 'H' when the hob
is hot enough to finish off cooking, and an 'h' if the hob is still too
hot to touch. A safety cut-out facility and acoustic signals with automatic
switch off are also available for additional peace of mind.
Designed to be teamed up with selected models from Neff's stainless steel
built-in oven and cooker hood ranges, extra-wide ceramic induction hob
T4872 is also suitable for combination with the company's Domino hob units
to create additional cook top facilities in the kitchen.
