In Line with the Trend: Individual Missel Bathroom Design

'Glass décor holds an important position in modern bathroom design, and new washbasin shapes are also gaining ground. The innovative Missel product ideas are exactly in line with the latest trends and set the tone in this bathroom.' says the company.

Innovative bathroom design with Missel compact element washbasin for wall fittings, compact element bidet, and compact toilet cistern

This interior design is the combination of three Missel compact elements to make an attractive ensemble. The corner placement enables the WC and the bidet to face diagonally into the room. This brings not only dynamics into the floor plan but also allows for freedom of movement. The compact element washbasin for wall fittings gives an effective presentation of the up-to-the-minute glass washbasin. The glass décor is satin-finished in platinum grey and clads the compact toilet cistern and the compact element bidet, with harmonious results. A practical addition would be the four glass décor corner shelves, which blend into the décor of the compact elements.

All Missel's compact elements come ready fitted with effective sound insulation.
Glass décor is playing an ever-greater role in contemporary bathroom design. Missel is meeting this trend with innovative product ideas. Here the two compact elements with their decorative glass design harmonise perfectly with the beautiful glass washbasin.

Intelligence by Dornbracht: new Technical Solutions

Dornbracht, the international manufacturer of designer fittings, accessories and interiors, presented a number of new technical products and ideas at this year’s SHK in Essen. Unusual installation situations of fittings, such as with Dornbracht’s flush-fit valves, with the flush-fit two- and three-way change-over, and with cross-cut ceramic tops on wash stand wall mixers, can be solved. Thanks to the technology, installed flush-fit items always project to the same extent, creating a balanced, harmonious appearance in the bathroom.

The body of the flush-fit valve is made of corrosion-proof DR brass, and is easy to install by means of integrated fixation strips. It is available in various dimensions such as 1ž2" and 3ž4" thread connections, or 15mm and 22mm weld connections. The ceramic top comes with water lubrication for permanent ease of use. Thanks to the combination of the cross-cut spindle and the brass sleeve, these flush-fit items facilitate a large depth balance of up to 80mm.

The new flush-fit two- and three-way change-overs also use the same technology of the cross-cut turning spindle and brass sleeve. Irrespective of the fitted depth of the flush-fit body, here too the projection remains the same and cross-cutting is no longer necessary. The water protection sleeve is embedded in the alternative (provided by the client) seal on both the flush-fit valve and on the flush-fit two- and three-way change-overs for easily installed, completely safe water protection for the wall. Protective caps are provided to protect the functional parts during the construction stage.

The new cross-cut rotating spindle with brass sleeves on the ceramic top also makes it easier to install the Dornbracht wash stand wall mixers. There are two designs for pre-assembly: a flush-fit body with a fixed calibre of 200mm, and individual flush-fit valves for individual arrangement of the operating elements and the outlet. From June 2004 the wash stand wall mixers will be supplied with the new xControl ceramic tops with improved adjustment.

The flush-fit valves, flush-fit two- and three-way change-overs and the wash stand mixer batteries with new technology are available for all Dornbracht series. A TechniPlan brochure with examples and technical information is available for the new flush-fit valves.

Installing Dornbracht’s new flush-fit valves is easy:

(1) After pre-assembling and flowing, cut off the protective cover and screw in the top and the sleeve. Then position the sleeve, collar and handle. Measure the distance to the wall, and cut this size equally from the spindle and the sleeve.

(2) Now screw the cross-cut spindle, the sleeve and the fitting handle into place.

(3) The intelligent technology of the flush-fit valves facilitates an even projection.

MEM Growing with People’s Requirements

Dornbracht, the international manufacturer of designer fittings, accessories and interiors, highlighted the continued development of MEM at this year’s SHK in Essen (16 - 20 March 04). The overall concept was complemented by new products, technical extensions and a specially developed POS system for trade and retailers. MEM was developed by Dornbracht in collaboration with Sieger Design (product design). The agency Meiré and Meiré was responsible for the room concept and communications. As well consisting of specific products, MEM defines bathroom designs of the future, defining it as an individualised space for personal wellbeing. In order to introduce retailers to the crossover concept of MEM, Dornbracht offers training on the subject of ritual architecture.

Design, award, new products
With the flat, wide outlet, MEM fittings embody a new, elementary aesthetic in fittings. At the red dot award, the MEM three-hole fitting for wash stands received the highly coveted 'best of the best' award for highest design quality in the category product design 2004.

The fittings also meet Dornbracht's standards for technical quality. The new MEM side shower has an integrated anti-limescale system, and is available with and without flow regulation for individual adjustment. Other new products are the three-hole wall fittings for wash stands with a continuous top or individual rosettes. The MEM surge inlet is a special product for the bathtub that enables the bather to experience a torrent of fresh water while bathing. There is also an extensive programme of accessories for a fully co-ordinated bathroom.
Innovative technology

In the bath and shower area, MEM has now also been fitted with Dornbracht's flush-fit techniques xStream and xTool. With a flow of up to 42 litres per minute, the flush-fit single-lever mixer enables the bather to fill the bath very quickly and with ease - most current mixers fill at just 26 l/min. In the shower, the high flow (38 litres per minute) can be used for the head or hand shower and up to six side showers simultaneously. The flush fitting is particularly small and therefore very easy to install.

Pre-fabricated flush fitting xTool also saves the need for extensive installation planning with MEM and makes it much easier to fit in the shower. The thermostat module consists of a central thermostat and up to three valves. This means the user can use the head, hand and side showers independently or together. The thermostat module facilitates a high flow even when three valves are open and precise control of the water temperature.

Good advice on display

A specially developed POS system for MEM offered plenty of opportunities for individual presentation at the exhibition. As well as a freestanding presentation block with an integrated fitting which can be equipped with its own tank and pump system for flowing water, product samples on an acrylic plinth and MEM ceiling hangers were also available for customer presentations. A new MEM customer brochure offers inspiration and ideas for new bathroom designs.

Missel Compact Elements Increase the Convenience of Sanitary Ware for the Elderly and the Handicapped

Two main features are essential in the field of sanitary products designed to meet the special needs of older or handicapped people effectively: a reliable grip, and sanitary fittings mounted at a greater height. With the Missel compact elements senior, washbasins, WCs, and bidets can be installed at the height that elderly and handicapped people prefer. The necessary wall-supported or hinged handles can be fastened, or even retrofitted, to the two compact basis elements, which are fitted on both sides with watertight plywood panels.

The compact elements are simply installed on the wall and covered in with the Missel closed cell tiling panel. This is armoured on both sides with glass-fibre fabric weave and coated with plastic-treated mortar, so that the tiles can be hung without any further treatment. The stable and impact-resistant Missel tiling panel is mounted with self-cutting screws to the torsion-resistant Missel compact elements.

Kohler Bubblemassage™ Baths Drive Innovation with Customisable Experiences and Myriad Designs

Kohler Co., a specialist in kitchen and bath design, introduces rejuvenating BubbleMassage airjet technology to its Experience and ProFlex whirlpool bath collections. The new BubbleMassage baths provide consumer customisation by allowing the bather to control both the massage intensity and on Experience BubbleMassage baths, the specific massage location. Additionally varying tub shapes, designs, installation options and easy cleaning all contribute to the flexibility Kohler BubbleMassage baths offer bathers.

'Consumers increasingly report that they want customisation when it comes to their bathing fixtures,' said Mike Moldenhauer, director of marketing for Kohler bathing products. 'Our Experience and ProFlex whirlpools already offer several water experience options, but with the introduction of our BubbleMassage baths to these collections, we have added even more customisation to the water experience, including variable-speed control and, on some models, individual massage zones.'

Numerous Design Options

Kohler research has found that consumers are looking for specific design styles when it comes to baths – designs that match other fixtures in the bathroom or designs with a neutral aesthetic that can fit a variety of environments. The Kohler Experience and ProFlex BubbleMassage baths offering includes eight models that provide a broad selection of designs, shapes and sizes, and flexible installation options to address these customer needs. BubbleMassage technology is offered on the following Experience and ProFlex bath models:

Experience

Purist™
Memoirs® 6’
Portrait™ 5.5’
Revival™ 6’

ProFlex
Devonshire™ 5’ (drop-in and integral apron)
Mariposa™ 6’ (drop-in and integral apron)
Serif™
Sojourn™

Like all Kohler fixtures, Experience and ProFlex BubbleMassage baths are offered in numerous Kohler colours allowing further customisation to the bathroom décor.

Customisable Water Experience
Kohler Experience and ProFlex BubbleMassage baths have been designed to provide a water experience that is controlled completely by the bather. A variable-speed blower/motor allows consumers to enjoy a light, bubbling experience or a powerful, invigorating massage, with several levels of intensity in between. A 'surge' feature combines the variable-speed range of experiences into one cycle that continuously sequences from light bubbles to a powerful massage for an enhanced hydrotherapy experience.

Specifically the Experience BubbleMassage baths have three individual Zones of Control™ – one at each end and midsection – that enable the bather to direct a bubbling massage action to targeted areas. A single zone or any combination of these three zones can be activated to provide special massage emphasis on a particular portion of the body. For example, the zones at each end of the bath provide a concentrated massage to just the bather’s feet or back, while the midsection zone offers a concentrated massage at the bather’s leg and hip area. Experience BubbleMassage baths also offer a chromatherapy option with eight different colour sequences from four LED lights to create a home spa bathing environment.

Both Experience and ProFlex BubbleMassage baths have an electronic keypad to control the intensity of the massage. The Experience BubbleMassage bath keypad is lighted and directs the Zones of Control, surge and chromatherapy features. These baths also include a floating remote control to provide bathers with added convenience and comfort as they can adjust the bathing experience without changing their positions in the bath.

Airjet Design
With approximately 120 airjets precisely positioned on the lower perimeter of the bath, the BubbleMassage bath airjet design ensures that the bubbling action is balanced throughout the bath, even at low speeds. The result is a complete and refreshing bubbling experience at any air flow speed. In addition the airjet design also provides for an easy wipedown during cleaning.

Ease of Maintenance

One of the key benefits of the Kohler Experience and ProFlex BubbleMassage baths is the ease of cleaning that these fixtures offer via a 'purge' feature and a smooth interior surface. Both Experience and ProFlex BubbleMassage baths come equipped with an automatic purge feature that removes any residual water from the air harness system once the bath is drained after use. BubbleMassage baths also have a manual purge feature, available at the touch of a button on the keypad, which is especially convenient to use following a shower to remove residual moisture. The smooth interior surface makes it easy to clean the bath as there are no protruding ports to contend with.

Additional Features
For added bather comfort, both Experience and ProFlex BubbleMassage baths come with an integral heater. Experience BubbleMassage baths can be easily installed anywhere around the world, as they are equipped with 240-volt, single-service plug-in cords. ProFlex BubbleMassage baths come standard with 120-volt plug-in cords. Both models have remote blower/motor capabilities, providing added convenience during the installation process.

Hewi Range 440 – With a Highly Polished Chrome-Plated Finish

Hewi has developed its 440 sanitary range with 'well-being in the bathroom' specifically in mind. Their high-quality and material mixes comprising satin-finished glass, coloured synthetics and metal components are characteristic of the accessories.

Range 440 products with a matt, chrome-plated metal finish have been on the market since 1999. 2004 sees the range being expanded to include a highly polished chrome-plated finish. 'The distinctive styling and satin-finished glass are made to look even more brilliant thanks to their combination with the new highly polished chrome-plated finish. What is more, the fittings used in the bathroom can thus be visually complemented to an even greater degree', Markus Sattler, product manager ‘Sanitary’, explained.

The 29 various accessories allow the bathroom to be personalised to meet the given user’s specific needs. The combination of functionality and attractive design is also a feature of Range 440, providing a stylish and individual bathroom outfit.

The colours available with Range 440 allow co-ordinated bathroom design – pure white and jet black make a timeless, understated impression. The mineral blue colour option brings freshness into the bathroom, while the pastel shades buttermilk yellow and apricot orange give it a friendly, pleasant look. In conjunction with the two metal finishes high-polish and matt chrome-plated, there is plenty of scope for achieving an optimum bathroom design.

In addition to high standards of quality and styling, great attention was also paid to the materials used to ensure that Range 440 is as easy-care as it is robust and therefore user-friendly. Assembly and/or installation of the accessories can be carried out easily.

Bath Accessories for Meta.02

The new Meta.02 accessories complete the minimalistic programme for the bathroom by Dornbracht, the international manufacturer of designer fittings, accessories and interiors. These new accessories were developed on the basis of the successful Meta.02 fittings. Designed by Sieger Design, they were introduced at this year’s SHK in Essen (16 - 20.03.04).

With Meta.02, Dornbracht addresses the subject of minimalism and interprets it for the bathroom and guest WC. The straight lines of these mitred accessories are both striking and appealing. By complementing the existing range of Meta.02 products with these new accessories, the company is minimising an entire bathroom programme. The products for the wash stand, bathtub, shower and WC offer extensive solutions. The programme includes shelves, towel holders in various designs and sizes, paper holders and toilet brush sets for wall and floor.

The language of shape is also evident in the new glass holder with wall connection: matt crystal glass is used for basic cylindrical shape, creating a single unit of holder and glass. The new soap dish consists of a chrome-plated brass body, its rounded lines harmonising with the wall attachment. The new Meta.02 accessories - which can also be combined with the Tara, Tara Classic, Meta Pur and Yota ranges - are available now.

New Shower Bath Added to Oracle Collection

Sottini has recently launched the Oracle Shower Bath, an addition to the company’s Oracle bathroom range.

The Oracle range has been designed by Robin Levien RDI, the British designer internationally recognised for his contribution to bathroom design. The inspiration for the Oracle range is a perfect circle with smooth lines that offer a timeless look with a modern appeal. This theme is echoed in the shape of the new shower bath.

The 1700 x 700mm footprint of the Oracle Shower Bath extends to 900mm to give a generous showering area at one end while the bath's narrow rim has been designed to maximise the inner bathing space. The bath is made from Idealcast, a composite material that is as strong as steel but as light as, and with the heat retaining properties of acrylic.

Marketing manager Brian Grey tells us: ‘We have produced some great bath designs at Sottini in recent years and, for me, the new Oracle bath is the best combination bath that I have seen so far. It is a fabulous bath and using Idealcast has enabled us to maximise the space inside the bath, by virtue of the narrow rim, which can only be achieved with the Idealcast process.’

Water Saving Duoflush Enhances Heavy Duty Cistern

'The Tri-Shell from Thomas Dudley Ltd is the market-leading, toughest heavy-duty plastic cistern.’ says the company.

An advanced manufacturing process known as sandwich foam moulding gives the shell of the cistern a rock hard cellular core. This makes it virtually indestructible and, with well over one million installations, the Dudley Tri-Shell has established a reputation for trouble free operation whilst withstanding the roughest of use.

Not wishing to rest on their laurels, Thomas Dudley has enhanced the Tri-Shell by supplying the low level models with the new water-saving Dudley Turbo 88 Duoflush syphon. This syphon has full and reduced flushing capabilities to comply with the Regulator’s Specification and provides water saving benefits when fitted in 9, 7 and 6 litre installations.

All Tri-Shells have a permanent high gloss, ceramic-look finish which will not degrade with use and are supplied with vandal resistant screw down lids and durable metal levers. An automatic version of the Tri-Shell is also available.

Haro Offers Uncompromising Hygiene - Anti-Bacterial Toilet Seats with 'ActiveShield'

Anti-bacterial and anti-fungal protection against microbes, germs and fungus has for many years been successfully adopted for such products as shower curtains, running shoes or chopping boards. In the meantime, the implementation of this process has now been carried over to sanitary products. German manufacturer, Haro Sanitary currently produces and distributes anti-bacterial treated toilet seats in its product range 'CareLine'.

These seats with the 'ActiveShield' protection were predominantly developed for medical areas - e.g. clinics, care and rehabilitation centres. Here, hygiene is one of the most important requirements for all used materials. For sanitary facilities in public areas such as restaurants, petrol stations, train stations, sport- and event centres, which encounter a strong germ exposure, Haro Sanitary Toilet Seats with 'ActiveShield' offer a wide field of application.

The seats are treated with an anti-bacterial additive using a technique developed by Haro Sanitary in co-operation with a business partner. The inorganic agent slows down - on the basis of a natural bacterial defense through silver ions - the settlement and spreading of various bacterial cultures on the seat surface and kills them in a fixed time period. The ingredients of 'ActiveShield' are often used in cosmetic products - they are both colourless and odourless as well as dermatologically harmless.

The Haro Sanitary CareLine with 'ActiveShield' is available in three models and is suitable for all common ceramics. The seats also come fitted with a FastFix-Hinge for a particularly fast, stable and secure installation.

Hamberger Industriewerke GmbH in Rosenheim near Munich, Germany, today is the largest manufacturer of WC seats having its production facilities in Germany. The Sanitary Ware division has been manufacturing WC seats made of wood and plastics since 1912, with the development of its own designs and ingenious hinge technology forming the basis of its success. The enterprise which was founded in 1866 is today managed by Peter Hamberger and Dr. Peter M. Hamberger, in the fourth and fifth generations.

Besides the Sanitary Ware division, Hamberger Industriewerke also includes the divisions Interior Decoration comprising hardwood, veneer, laminate and cork flooring as well as panelling, Sports Flooring, and Farming and Forestry.

With a staff of approx. 1300 employees and on a production area of 250 000 m2 (i.e. approx. 60 acres), an annual turnover of approx. 200 million Euro is achieved. The export share of the company is over 35%; exports are world-wide into more than 50 countries.
