MOMENTS - a new Concept in Integrated Design for the 'Total Bathroom'

Ideal Standard has announced the availability of its MOMENTS bathroom suite in the UK. MOMENTS is a fully integrated bathroom collection, created by the award-winning German design studio ARTEFAKT, which coordinates all elements of the bathroom, from ceramics and furniture to tap fittings, bathroom accessories, and baths.

MOMENTS reflects sophisticated architecture which, at the same time, communicates design simplicity and soft features responding to people's desire to cocoon. The collection achieves this using quality materials and also by providing a wide range of innovative, bathroom features and functionalities.

ARTEFAKT conveys Ideal Standard's vision of a 'Total Bathroom' through consistent design language applied to all MOMENTS features, fittings and furniture making it truly coordinated. Each and every element holds a distinct reminder of the design - from the shape of the bath and the taps to the towel rail and furniture. Its geometrical form conveys emotion by joining very fluent surfaces and soft edges. This gives MOMENTS a specific and sensual atmosphere offering an attractive design alternative to the sharp and detached mood usually associated with minimalism.

Functionality, choice and intelligent use of space are also key attributes of the collection. For example, depending on a bathroom's size and shape, ceramic items can either stand alone, be attached to a wall or directly onto furniture. Wash basins, toilets and bidets can either be floor-standing or wall-hung. Other innovations include "fold away" taps and bath shower heads which slide away for safety and tidiness, a detachable bath enclosure which pulls out to provide hidden storage space, and a 'soft closing' toilet seat to eliminate the risk of slamming.

ARTFAKT Designer, Achim Pohl, who created the MOMENTS collection together with partner Tomas Fiegl, says, 'MOMENTS fully reflects Ideal Standard's integrated total bathroom concept - where individual elements of the bathroom make small statements, but when brought together, the 'whole' bathroom makes a strong affirmation. We used simple shapes. The surfaces are soft, flowing forms, giving MOMENTS its own personalised spirit able to reach people across many cultural boundaries, and translating a modern image.'

The MOMENTS bath is available as a freestanding or built-in version. The foot or head of the bath can be fitted with a sliding door panel for extra storage or an internally illuminated sidewall for the ultimate in relaxation.

The elegant shower range consists of five attractive trays with coordinating frameless glass panels and a distinctive 'soft edge' design. The shower panel with five control settings and multiple jets offer an invigorating shower experience.

The range offers furniture to complement the bathroom, with a total of eight different pieces featuring high-quality wood veneer with colours of light oak or white lacquer. With the continuation of soft lines and edges, the furniture reflects the design of the MOMENTS sanitary ware.

The comprehensive range of mixer taps and accessories for wash basins, bidets, baths and showers is perfectly coordinated to suit the overall bathroom look. The range of accessories reflecting the MOMENTS design includes towel rails, soap dishes, soap dispensers, glass holders, bath grips, lighting fixtures, robe hooks, toilet roll holders and toilet brush holders.

The boldness and simplicity of Art Deco design is the primary source of inspiration for Imperial Bathrooms’ new Astoria Deco sanitaryware. An extension of the company’s already popular Astoria collection, this new line-up not only further embraces the fundamentals of Art Deco, it is a multi-functional sanitaryware range, with a wide array of options to suit a variety of bathroom installations.

Astoria Deco has a wealth of Art Deco features, including simple geometric shapes and smooth, even surfaces, which are echoed throughout the bath, bidet, low and high-level cistern, and large and small basin options. For added versatility, the basins - complete with a three-hole overflow - may be installed in variety of ways to meet individual needs. In addition to a co-ordinating pedestal, the basins may be integrated into the new Epoch wall-mounted basin stand or a new range of timber and marble-top wash-stations. Barwick Announces Jika

Bathroom Distributor Barwick has announced a new addition to the company’s portfolio of brands. Jika, from bathroom manufacturer Laufen, is a comprehensive new collection of design led sanitaryware and bathroom furniture, which the company says is appealing to both the eye and budget.

The first offering from the Jika Brand is the Mio range, inspired by Swiss designer Peter Wirz, who was responsible for the popular Laufen Pro range. In Mio Wirz has created a collection of contemporary products, which allow generous choice for both small and large bathrooms.

Whilst the Jika brand is comparable to other luxury bathroom ranges, it is priced to fit into the mid to low end market and attractive terms are available to all bathroom retailers.

Jika Mio ceramic is available from Barwick now and the furniture is planned for introduction in summer 2006. Marketing support for the bathroom retailer comes in the form of a fully illustrated comprehensive brochure, which incorporates many ideas for bathroom design as well as technical and fitting information.

Mio sanitaryware comprises washbasins available in various size specifications, bidets and WC's are available for close-coupled, back-to-wall or wall-hung installations. The WC seat and cover are glazed with a special anitbac finish, that inhibits micro-organism and bacteria formation. Furthermore, an easily operated quick release fixing allows the toilet seat and cover to be easily detached; perfect solutions to ensure maximum hygiene.

Mio also satisfies the need for contemporary sanitaryware suitable for special needs, with a number of products including the Mio comfort WC, which is higher than most WC's and will be much appreciated by those with specific needs or those who are taller than the average consumer.

Mio furniture presents a number of versatile furniture cabinets with either oak, white, or aluminium framed glass doors. As well as being able to choose from the various cabinet options the consumer can mix and match the doors, with an arrangement using one or more of the alternative door options on one unit. There is also a choice of various mirror cabinets and light fittings that create a finishing touch to the overall bathroom setting.

Water Saving at the Touch of a Button

The compulsory installation of household water meters is here, so simply flushing the toilet will now have financial implications. The majority of toilet cisterns installed in the UK provide a 71/2 or 9 litre single flush. Current regulations in force since 2002 require the installation of 6 litre single or 6/3 litre dual flush toilets only. The Tribune toilet suite from Impulse however surpasses this requirement by providing a 4 1/2 / 3 litre dual flush with the back up of full WRAS certification. The Tribune suite has also been submitted for inclusion on the DEFRA 'Qualified Water Technology List'.

Tribune was officially launched in the UK at the KBB exhibition in January. It is able to save a minimum of 25% of water on a full flush AND provide improved performance by a combination of its WRAS approved EVO™ valve and the toilet pan design. Flushing performance is not diminished on the Tribune as the flush still provides 2 1/2 litres of 'trailing water' to ensure waste is cleared through the soil pipe to sewer. In addition to its technical advantages the Tribune is a modern attractive design, compact with only a 620mm projection and meets all relevant British Standards.

Looking at the bigger picture, the large scale use of 4 1/2 / 3 cisterns and other water saving devices could also mean less sewage to treat and so provide reduced treatment costs or additional treatment capacity.

‘Recent intense media coverage has highlighted the problems of water shortages in the UK, people are now aware that the problems are real and could hit them in the pocket. We are getting many enquiries about the 41/2/3 Tribune from Architects, Designers, Specifiers and the buyers in the public sector. I think it is now inevitable that some legislation will be forthcoming to ensure water saving devices are included in new build and refurbishment projects. We are confident in our design and quality and feel that our Tribune suite can make a valuable contribution to water saving. We aim to have four 41/2 / 3 suites available in the UK by 2007’ commented Gary Hawkins, General Manager of Impulse.

Facts
The toilet is one of the largest users of water accounting for approximately 30-40% of usage in domestic properties and up to 90% in offices.

The price of water supplied and sewage taken away have both increased by around 13% over the past five years.

The installation of meters on private home water supplies and the cost of water are both set to increase sharply over the next five years.

Climate change and global warming are putting increasing pressure on UK water resources. Water conservation and the reduction of consumption are now seen as primary objectives by the government and advisory groups.

Louvolite's Ultra-Fresh Blinds Help Keep the Home Healthy

Window blind manufacturer Louvolite has introduced its advanced Ultra-Fresh treated fabrics which offer proven and effective protection against bacterial and fungal growth.

This makes them suitable for use in bathrooms and kitchens where damp air is present, and helps prevent the creation of mould, mildew and the unsightly marking which can spoil the appearance of ordinary blinds.

The treated fabrics – which are available exclusively from Louvolite – come in an attractive range of designs that can be used to enhance any type of interior design scheme.

Their Ultra-Fresh treatment creates a self-deodorising fabric surface that helps maintain a healthy environment (This treatment is used on blinds for nurseries, health centres and hospitals where it has even proved effective in the fight against the infamous MRSA bug.)

The Louvolite Ultra-Fresh treated fabrics can be used on either vertical or roller blinds and so offer a range of blind design options.

Ultra-Fresh treated roller blinds can be sponged down with a damp cloth while vertical blinds can also be machine washed up to 10 times and still retain their Ultra-Fresh properties.

Details can be obtained directly by calling 0161 882 5000, or by emailing jamie.marsden@louvolite.com
