Istanbul
Collection sets New Standards in Bathroom Design
British
design icon, Ross Lovegrove has teamed up with international bathroom
brand, VitrA to create the award-winning
Istanbul Collection.
As
part of its commitment to design excellence, the bathroom manufacturer
has worked with a number of industry-leading designers over the years
and Ross Lovegrove, renowned for his ability to combine organic forms
with sophisticated technology and materials, is the latest design collaboration
for the company.
Lovegrove took his inspiration from liquid, organic forms to design VitrA's
latest range - the result is a collection of 175 pieces including WCs,
washbasins, baths, brassware, furniture, tiles and accessories.
Lovegrove is clearly enthusiastic about the collaboration: For me
as a designer this project has created a rare and wonderful opportunity
to work with an industry leader that has the industrial authority to realise
the full scope of products; from tiles to baths, brassware to furniture,
all under one organisation. Working in Istanbul has given me a chance
to look into the history of the Ottomans and the Islamic nature of decoration,
something that I've always been fascinated with, and is strongly reflected
in the collection.
Since launching globally earlier this year, the Istanbul Collection has
won many industry accolades, including two red dot design awards, Wallpaper
magazine's Best Bathroom Design award and most recently, awarded Product
of the Year by the Designer magazine.
Erol Donmez, managing director of VitrA UK commented: Ross Lovegrove
has a reputation for breaking new boundaries - he pushes the technology
at his disposal to the max in order to create something that is very simple,
very beautiful and yet very functional. His creations have stretched the
limits of what was previously thought impossible in terms of ceramic sanitaryware
manufacturing, and our substantial investment in technology and tooling
has helped to make this project a reality. The Istanbul Collection is
destined to be a truly global product for VitrA, which we believe will
become an iconic design for the 21st century!
The Istanbul Collection is available exclusively at C.P Hart.

In-Depth
Bathing Pleasure with the new Comfort-Level Bath Overflow
Kaldewei
has launched an exclusive waste and overflow fitting for steel enamel
bath tubs. Comfort-Level allows the water depth to be increased by up
to 5cm compared to conventional models and has an understated built-in
lever that allows for quick and easy adjustment of the level.
This ensures maximum pleasure and relaxation in the bath - it is not only
comfort when reclining which is a deciding factor but also how deep the
body can be immersed in warm water. Until now, this has been determined
exclusively by the shape of the bath tub, but Comfort-Level allows bathers
to regulate the water depth at any time to suit their personal preference.
At first glance, the Kaldewei Comfort-Level is no different to a conventional
overflow. Its slim depth and discreet design with chrome-coloured visible
parts combines perfectly with all ranges of baths and fittings. The intelligent
technology of the Kaldewei Comfort-Level allows the water to flow away
over a covered, non-visible overflow outlet. There are two versions, standard
and extended, to cater for almost all the models in the Kaldewei range
of which there are more than 250 designs to choose from. All Kaldewei
baths are manufactured from 3.5mm steel enamel and guaranteed for 30 years.

New
Basin and Furniture Combinations from Vero, Fogo and X-Large
Duravit
has added new sizes to its popular Vero basin range that can be teamed
up to create attractive and practical storage solutions with new additions
from the Fogo and X-Large furniture collections.
Choose
from three generously proportioned Vero furniture basins in 85cm, 105cm
and 125cm widths and then select a vanity unit from the Fogo or X-Large
range in the matching size. Both designs offer minimal clean lines to
co-ordinate with the basin's classic geometry and the large soft-close
drawers house a selection of large and small box compartments and drawer
dividers to provide storage versatility.
Fogo offers finishes in the four real wood veneers of Maple, Ash Olive,
American Walnut and Macassar which can co-ordinate with other items from
the range including mobile storage units and mirrors.
X-Large offers a further seven finishes with matching floor, low and tall
cabinets, plus mirrors and mirror cabinets in Wenge, Helsinki Birch, Light
Maple, Macore, Natural Oak and White High Gloss.
The new furniture vanity options also extend to smaller sizes (from 45cm
widths) to serve existing Vero basins plus other wash bowls and countertop
basins from the Duravit portfolio.
There are also consoles in both ranges with optional towel rails and undercounter
cabinets to team with all Duravit countertop basins and wash bowls.
In fact the sky is the limit with these new furniture additions: simply
mix and match across collections to achieve the desired style and colour
finish, while also solving all storage problems for the smallest cloakroom
through to the largest family bathroom.

Autumn-Winter Collection the Original Stone One
Early
this year Aquamass founder Jean-Pol
Piron once again asked himself: what's the point of being a trendsetter,
what's the use of having all this experience and inspiration if it's not
for continually breaking new ground? It's a question, a thought that has
kept him going for little over twenty-five years.
The
initiator of the wellness at home concept back in 1978, he
wants to move beyond the mere monitoring of the evolution of our desires.
He sets out to anticipate, detect, even provoke them. A 100% Belgian,
resourceful, intuitive and passionate designer, who keeps the pulse of
society, he is a searcher.. whose quest takes him further each day.
'That explains in part how in just two or three seasons The Stone
One bathtub of Aquamass has managed to become a classic: already
critically acclaimed, already well-established, already imitated... Thanks
to its line of purity, its curves and rounding shape, its sweet appearance
and soft touch... this bathtub is a plentiful source of emotion, generosity,
sensuality and... femininity.
'What more can be said besides what has already been said and written
about Aquamass and its new line Design? That it responds perfectly
to our desires, aspirations, requirements and daily needs.
'Today, Jean-Pol Piron reaches for the ultimate with his Stone One bathtub:
he works it, dresses it, undresses it, gives it a thousand different,
astonishing, surprising and... enchanting faces.'
-
la Italiana... version Lip Mosaïc (Concept by Paolo Chipiron)
It re-invents The Renaissance by decorating itself with glass
mosaic. It has a magical effect: bright, iridescent, gleaming. A habit
of gems applied to the Compolight, if so desired available in a version
that is assembled in harmony with your bathroom, or covered by mosaic
chosen by Aquamass: in tones of barley sugar as in the old days - from
amber pomegranate to iridescent curacao. An array of delicious flavours...
- La Française... version Graine de Cuir (Concept by Arnaud Wolters-
Paolo Chipiron)
Lined with high-tech micronised leather with saddle stitch,
it combines a frank style with Parisian elegance. Trendy and cosy in addition
to being water- and criticism-proof, it brings together the best guarantees
for quality and longevity, with eye-catching colours, such as Crema di
latte, Tabac mortel, Café brûlé, noir d'enfer, or
pivoine orgueilleuse ...
-
Ethnic... version African Skin (Concept by Arnaud Wolters- Paolo Chipiron)
Jean-Pol Piron and his creative co-workers set out to move beyond the
full, plain Graine de Cuir shades and provided this African
bathtub with a skin that undeniably embodies the spirit and the mystique
of the African continent:
- Snake: reptile-like, a skin thats anything but ordinary, that
is extraordinary and exhibits luxury and primal aesthetics.
- Ostrich: the micronised skin of this symbol animal affords the bathtub
the nobility and purity of highly refined leather. A velvet-soft cover,
with shades ranging from sand to ebony, over the ancient tones of African
soil. From it you derive a strength and warmth to which you can not remain
insensitive.
- Crocodile: exotic and intense, the Stone One Croco shamelessly displays
its African roots. It thinks itself superior to everything else and above
all wishes to show off. An exceptional bathtub calls for an exceptional
skin ...
- Vintage: patined, grooved, marked by the ravages of time, it seeks to
be authentic. Vintage offers an astounding alliance between a bathtub
with shapes that inspire confidence and its cover with tanned,
timeless accents.
- The oriental... version Tadelakt (Concept by Paolo Chipiron)
This is the Marrakech version of the Stone One. It comes in the dark tones
of the Atlas, ivory beige, deep black, glazed red, patined, gradated,
polished, oiled... and is vibrant with authenticity.
2006 Autumn-Winter Stone One Collection: Liquid, aesthetic, organic beauty,
harmony as the basis for everything.

All-round
Talent: Bacino from Duravit - Now in Three Different Basic Forms
Bacino
wash bowls from Duravit have always
offered plenty of scope for inspired washing area design. Whether combined
with a variety of different materials and whether exclusive or understated
- there's no limit to the design possibilities. And now Bacino adds new
dimensions with its variety. In addition to the original round design
with a 42cm diameter, Bacino is now also available in a 55x42cm rectangular
and a 42x42cm square version, both in the characteristic design with rounded
corners.

Common
to all three designs are the elegant, strikingly slim lines and the 15.5cm
height of the bowl. The simple, no-fuss forms leave nothing to be desired
when it comes to comfort either: the generous bowls are user-friendly
and thanks to their relatively modest dimensions also come into their
own where space is at a premium, making them ideal for small recesses,
cloakrooms or cramped hotel bathrooms.
Used as console basins, the Bacino wash bowls can be coordinated with
a wide range of vanity units and consoles from the Duravit programme.
Alternatively, as a stand-alone solution, on stone or other materials,
Bacino also makes an individual design statement.
Miller
from Sweden Introduces Dark Oak
Miller
from Sweden
has launched Oakland bathroom furniture in a new dark oak finish.
Following on from the successful Natural Oak bathroom furniture, Miller
from Sweden now launches Dark Oak, a finish that combines the patina of
lovingly cared for antique wood with the clean modern lines of Scandinavian
design.

Dark
Oak introduces a touch of Zen with its new finish. Looking almost black
at first sight, closer inspection reveals interesting and subtle shades
across each part of the natural wood grain. Produced to the highest standard
in natural oak from sustainable woodlands, Dark Oak is finished with multiple
coatings of waterproof lacquer and features soft door closers operated
by a high tech door hinge system.
The range includes wall and floor standing vanity units in a range of
sizes with a choice of white ceramic wash basins; wall cabinets with oak
or mirrored doors, plus a range of illuminated mirrors, a matching toilet
seat and bath panel set. Built to last, Dark Oak by Miller from Sweden
introduces a fresh design concept into bathroom furniture.

Inta
Makes Anti-Scald Easy
Intatec
says that bath time can be made safer with an anti-scald mixing valve,
a device that blends together hot and cold water, to fill a bath to just
the right temperature.
The valves, which can be fitted out of sight behind a bath panel, or as
part of a new tap are a safety feature designed to reduce the 20 deaths
and 570 serious injuries caused by bath time scalding each year. The under
5s and elderly are most at risk from hot water, but for everyone,
an anti-scald valve can add an extra dimension to convenience when filling
the bath. A thermostatically filled bath can mean that the water is at
the right temperature for you to climb straight in.
Installers are finding that there is an increased demand from customers
for stable, controllable temperature. Theyre also discovering the
opportunity to increase their margins on bathroom supply and fit with
the inclusion of an anti-scald device. Cynthia Fisher, Intas Commercial
Director said 'Theres no doubt that anti-scald valves can save lives
and a whole lot of misery and disfigurement. Now is the right time for
installers to be offering anti-scald valves as part of a new bathroom
installation. The stand alone valves are really good value, and the built
in ones comparable with other good quality brassware, so safety doesnt
come at a premium and theres always the added convenience.'
Intatec has a whole range of anti-scald taps, valves and showers that
combine the good looks that are demanded in todays bathrooms with
the high performance that makes showering and bathing a pleasure. Their
range extends to cover anti-scald wash and shower room equipment too.
The company has always focussed on the safety aspects of its products
and prides itself on its technical department, which is able to advise
on all aspects of specification and installation. To put that information
straight into the hands of merchants and fitters, Inta has produced an
easy to understand booklet, Everything you need to know about anti-scald,
which is available free through plumbers merchants right across the UK.
The booklet is also useful to explain to customers the need for anti-scald
equipment in their bathroom.

Splash
Bath from Shires
The
luxurious new Splash bath from Shires
is a winning design of P shaped shower bath that has a whole host of benefits
and features. Exclusively featuring an upstand along the back and side
of the bath, it provides a guaranteed leak proof solution eliminating
the age old problem of leaks around the sealant. In addition, an anti-splash
rim along the front edge of the bath ensures that water bouncing off the
shower screen falls back into the bath and not onto the floor.
The screen is a fundamental part of the shower bath design and has been
engineered for a perfect fit. It features rise and fall hinges to ensure
a watertight seal on the bath edge and adjustable wall brackets for perfect
fitment against the wall surface. An integral chrome plated brass towel
rail is both useful and up-to-date in appearance. The screen rotates through
180° and can be folded back 90° to aid cleaning.
The overall dimensions of the bath have been very carefully considered
during the design process. The showering area, at 850mm width, has been
designed specifically to provide a generous space to shower, yet with
dimensions that protrude less into the bathroom area. The bathing end,
at 725mm, is a larger area than other such baths and accommodates the
broadest shouldered person, where sometimes this end of a shower bath
can be a squeeze.
The tap platform and waste outlet are positioned to the front of the bath
for ease of installation and access behind the bath panel. The bath has
been designed with quality and durability in mind. Using top quality acrylic
it has a full size encapsulated baseboard. It is supplied undrilled and
can be used with either traditional brassware configurations, or, for
a more modern solution, wall mounted brassware.

transformer, ducting, white facia ring and external wall grille. The MM53556

Broughtons
New Aquos Paris Bathroom Suite
Broughtons
recently launched its own bathroom range, Aquos, having identified a market
for stylish and affordable bathroom suites. A new brand committed to providing
leading edge design; with quality at affordable prices that has 'mass
market' appeal.
One of the most visually stunning in the Aquos range is the Paris
suite. Often creative and modern designs are highly priced and therefore
never reach their sales potential, remarks Allan Nutter, Commercial
Director. He continues, Our Broughtons range has been designed to
offer huge appeal in a variety of designs to attract the sales. Often
ranges are either contemporary and highly priced, or more affordable and
traditional. We wanted to make both styles accessible to the majority
audience.
One of the most appealing is the Paris suite; sophisticated, clean
and urbane, certainly the look of the moment. Its very adaptable style,
with a fusion of French flair, makes it an easy-going style to blend comfortably
with classic or contemporary décor.
Broughtons says that it has successfully delivered an entire range to
satisfy purses and pockets, incorporating indulgent, inspiring styles
and designs, at realistic prices.
Supported by a new brochure with inspirational photography, complete with
technical details and the 'Total Install' system; detailing the range
of complementing accessories available to the retailer.

The
Distributors' Art
Ideal
Bathrooms
says that it has built its success on a policy of in-depth stocking of
key brands. It maintains a stockholding of around £5 million at
all times and has recently added to this figure, investing a further £1/2
million in stock from Ideal Standard's new Washpoint, Moments and Small+
ranges.
This
is the biggest new product launch for a number of years, says Ideal
Bathrooms' Managing Director, Martin Carroll. It's a brand new collection
of exciting shapes aimed at the retail showroom market and is therefore
perfect for our business. I am totally convinced that these new and different
looks will be snapped up by our retail customers who know a good idea
when they see it.
Washpoint is a versatile collection that offers the total bathroom
solution from WCs, bidets and basins, to baths, accessories and matching
furniture. Washpoints' timeless design will appeal to a wide-range of
homeowners and Ideal Bathrooms is already delighted with the response
from its retailers with many displays promised.
Moments is a fully integrated bathroom collection, created by the award-winning
German design studio ARTEFAKT. The ARTEFAKT team have created the individual
elements of the Moments range to make small statements, but when brought
together, the 'whole' bathroom makes a strong affirmation using simple,
soft flowing shapes. Moments, together with existing Tonic and Celia ranges
all from Ideal Standard's Art & Design range.
Ideal Bathrooms' sales of space-saving products are still growing rapidly.
Consumers are looking for functional and attractive solutions for those
tight spaces. Small+ is the next generation of space intelligent products
for the bathroom from Ideal Standard. Created by Italian designer Franco
Bertoli, Small+ enables those with limited space to enjoy the latest in
stylish bathroom design.
With a typical UK bathroom being no bigger than a king-size bed, Ideal
Standard understands that small spaces demand a solution that accommodates
a wide variety of bathroom products. The key to this collection's smart
design is in the short projection of each piece. Although generous in
width, Small+ basins have a projection of just 425mm, compared to an average
basin projection of between 450mm and 470mm. The WC bowls take up just
615mm of space in the room, compared to an average of 655mm.
Ideal Bathrooms already stocks the majority of the Ideal Standard retail
ranges as well as other major brands, providing national next-day deliveries
through its four distribution centres and with its own transport fleet.
