Eurobath & Deaf Africa Fund

Eurobath has teamed up with DAF (Deaf Africa Fund) and UWAVIKA (the Tanzania Association for the Parents of Deaf Children) who are building the country's first Vocational Training School for Young Deaf Adults. UKAVIKA recognises that young deaf adults even with a good education often don't have the skills that lead to employment and independence, the hope is the new Vocational Training School will give them the best possible chance of adult independence.

Eurobath sees that this is a very worthwhile venture and in response of this is donating the brassware and accessories for the male and female toilet blocks.

Bristan Head Shave Raised £1000 for Charity

Fifteen plucky lads from Bristan's Goods In department put their scalps on the line in aid of Leukaemia Research recently. Doing their bit to help the Tamworth-based bathroom company reach its ambitious target of raising £50,000 for the charity in 2007, the men put a brave face on the event - even when the clippers were wielded by Roger Williams, Managing Director.

Raising a sensational £1000 for Leukaemia Research, it didn't take long to remove the lads' crowning glory, though admittedly some had more to lose than others!

The event - which was held in the Bristan Group's impressive new warehouse on Friday 25th May - was well attended by Bristan staff who were keen to pledge their support, and no doubt have some fun watching their colleagues lose their barnets.

De Dietrich Donation Helps Raise Thousands at Charity Fundraiser

A donation of De Dietrich kitchen appliances helped the Children's Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) raise over £7,000 at a charity ball held at the Tortworth Four Pillars Hotel in Gloucestershire in May 2007. The event was held to help build awareness of the charity, which is committed to stamping out the childhood disease.

Clive Allsop, area sales manager for De Dietrich with Claire Adams, co-organiser of the CLDF Ball

This is by funding research and working with medical practitioners, who specialise in the care of children who are diagnosed with long term liver illness; all too often with little chance of a cure. It is also dedicated to supporting the families of those children; with a care and support network.

De Dietrich area sales manager, Clive Allsop became associated with the charity as he is godfather to one of Claire Adams' two children who were both born with a genetic liver disease and she has been receiving the support services of the charity since their births. She co-organised the fundraiser, requesting auction donations from business organisations. When approached, Richard Walker, sales and marketing director of FagorBrandt UK, was more than happy to support the cause; one that often receives less press coverage than other child-related charities. Mrs Adams says:

'The generous contribution from De Dietrich raised the most money for the charity on the night and we are extremely grateful to Clive and Richard at De Dietrich for being so supportive. Every donation we receive for the charity means more hope for the growing number of children who suffer from childhood liver illnesses.'

De Dietrich donated a range of built-in appliances, including a DOP440X multifunction pyrolytic single oven and DTi304J induction hob to the charity auction, which were successfully bid for by a couple whose own child has had a successful liver transplant.

North Pole Expedition

In April 2007 Joe Levin, Managing Director of The Capital Group Ltd, will take on the extreme physical challenge of an expedition to the North Pole in support of the MS Society.

Joe and his team will be assembling a group of six to eight members, who will take two to three weeks to reach the North Pole. During this time they will be tested by extreme weather and hostile terrain, and will spend a total of ten nights on the ice.
Joe is ready for the challenge, 'I want to challenge myself physically and mentally, and I want to raise lots of money for a wonderful and important cause.'

Joe was inspired to take on the challenge to support his long time friend Dirk, who was diagnosed with MS three years ago. Dirk has full confidence in his friend; 'I think he's MAD! But if he has decided to do this he will finish it. Joe is one of the most driven and determined humans I know.'

Joe and his company have some exciting plans in the pipeline to raise funds in support of the trip, all of which will benefit the MS Society. Keep your eye on the website for details of ways in which you can support Joe in his epic challenge.

Triathlon Training at Bristan

Top brass from the Bristan Group don their shorts and get in training for London Triathlon to support Leukaemia Research...

In tribute to Lucy Romo - daughter of Bristan Group Sales Manager for Ireland Dennis Romo - who tragically lost her battle with Leukaemia last year, the company has announced that Leukaemia Research will be its charity partner for 2007.

First up on an impressive agenda of events in a bid to raise as much money as possible for Leukaemia Research is the gruelling London Triathlon. In a bid to inspire staff to get involved, Bristan Group CEO Steve Lee and Bristan MD Roger Williams are leading from the top and were amongst the first to sign up to this two day event, which takes part on the 4th-5th August 2007. Along with fellow team mates from across the Bristan Group, Steve Lee and Roger Williams recently began a punishing training schedule including swimming, cycling and running that will hopefully see them 'match-fit' before the big event. On the big day the dedicated team will take part in a 1500m swim, followed by a 40km bike ride and topped off with a 10km run!

(left to right): Steve Lee (CEO of the Bristan Group), Amy Brightwell (Group Financial Accountant), Jeff Williams (Sales Director), Hedley Bennett (Merchandising Supervisor), Rob Bagley (Triathlon Guru), Roger Williams (MD of Bristan).

Steve Lee, CEO for the Bristan Group comments: ‘Leukaemia Research is a fantastic charity which ploughs an impressive 90p in every £1 into its research and we are delighted to get behind them. It is a cause that is close to our hearts following the tragic death of Lucy Romo and we are passionate about raising as much money as possible to help research into this awful disease.’

Regarding the training programme for the London Triathlon itself he adds: ‘None of us are professional athletes so the training will no doubt be pretty gruelling, but we are prepared to quite literally put our blood, sweat and tears into getting fit and raising as much sponsorship as possible. But this is just one in a whole programme of events that as a company we are organising and I have no doubt that all the staff will do their bit to make a real difference to this charity.’

Leukaemia Research was established in 1960 and is still the only national research charity devoted exclusively to leukaemia, the lymphomas, myeloma, aplastic anaemia, myelodysplasia, the myeloproliferative disorders and the related blood disorders in both children and adults. It receives no government grants and is dependant entirely on the support of voluntary donation from individuals and companies such as the Bristan Group to help it continue its invaluable work.

GBS Offers Water Aid for 2007

Green Building Store has decided to make WaterAid its charity of the year for 2007, making an ongoing commitment over the year to support its valuable work. WaterAid is dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation, and hygiene education to some of the world's poorest people across seventeen different countries. It has already helped 8.5 million people gain access to water through low-cost, sustainable projects that use appropriate technology and that can be managed by the community themselves but there is still a lot of work to be done.

Director of Green Building Store, Chris Herring said 'We felt that WaterAid was a particularly important charity for us to support, because of the efforts it is making to address the global water crisis. In parts of Britain this year, mild droughts have highlighted the fact that most people take it for granted that they have an unlimited supply of safe, clean water. It is all too easy for us to forget that there are over a billion people with no access to safe water at all.'

Green Building Store donated £1025 for WaterAid in 2006, and is hoping to raise more money in 2007, by making a donation with the sale of every water-saving ES4 toilet. The company is also collecting unwanted mobile phones to send to WaterAid, which can make up to £30 per handset depending on the model and condition of the phone. Green Building Store is encouraging everybody to help support WaterAid, whether by making a donation, getting involved in campaigns and events or just by donating an old mobile phone.

A child dies every 15 seconds from water-related diseases and 2.6 billion people live without a toilet. For more information see http://www.wateraid.org

The average person in the UK uses 150 litres of water per day, compared to an average of 10 litres per day in the developing world. Green Building Store has been campaigning for the government to make new homes more water-efficient.

Green Building Store has been one of the leading suppliers of sustainable building products for over a decade, including a range of water-efficient sanitaryware. For more information visit http://www.greenbuildingstore.co.uk or contact Esmay on 01484 461705.

Building Adhesives Brings Christmas Cheer to Children's Hospice

Building Adhesives, the tile adhesive and grout manufacturer based in Stoke-on-Trent, has donated ten thousand pounds to its adopted local charity, the Donna Louise Trust. The donation takes the company's total contribution to the Trust to over twenty-two thousand pounds in the past three years.

Sticking Together: Building Adhesives' Paul Harris (centre) presents the £10k cheque to Corporate Fundraisers at the Donna Louise Trust, Liz Reynolds (left) and Sam Evans.

The cheque was presented at the Donna Louise Trust's hospice in Stoke-on-Trent, just a few miles from Building Adhesives' headquarters. Upon presenting the cheque Paul Harris, Head of Sales at Building Adhesives commented:

‘The Donna Louise Trust is a charity that is very close to our hearts at Building Adhesives, as well as very close in proximity. The work they do is hugely important and highly commendable, and we are very proud to support such a worthwhile cause.’

The charity was established in 1999, and is named after Donna Louise Hackney, who died of cystic fibrosis in the same year. Her family and their supporters set up the Trust in her name to establish the only hospice of its kind in the region, providing care for sick and injured children not expected to live beyond their teenage years.

Liz Reynolds, Corporate Fundraiser at the Donna Louise Trust commented:
‘It costs £1.6million pounds each year to keep the hospice running, and we are hugely grateful for the support offered by Building Adhesives over the years. This donation will go a long way to helping us continue our services in 2007.’

‘The Trust cares for children, who, due to illness or accident, have life limiting conditions. We give physical, practical and emotional support to both the child and their family. Respite and end of life care is provided at our hospice, Treetops, as well as in the family's own home.’ She added.

Building Adhesives has been manufacturing tile adhesive and grout products in Stoke-on-Trent for over forty years, and aside from this annual donation the company also organises sponsored events and fundraisers throughout the year.

David O'Neill, Managing Director at Building Adhesives commented:

‘Building Adhesives is a business that has always supported the local community and its varied charities and causes. The Donna Louise Trust is a charity we adopted over three years ago, and we are delighted to be able to contribute to such a fantastic organisation.’

Aqualisa Staff ‘In-the-Buff’

Staff at shower manufacturer Aqualisa have shed their clothes in time honoured 'Calendar Girls' style to raise funds for a school for physically disabled young people. No less than twenty-three Aqualisa colleagues were persuaded to star in the calendar, which was the brainchild of Aqualisa's Quality Assurance Manager, Simon Smithers and his team.

Produced in-house by the Aqualisa marketing department and sponsored by Beacon Press, the calendar brings together a budding cast of in-the-buff lovelies ranging from January's Lauren to July's Susan, Angela and Tracey. Not that the boys were allowed to get away with it; flick to April and it's Research & Development's Graham with a well placed crate hiding his modesty, whilst those of a delicate disposition are saved their blushes thanks to Technical Product Trainer David's strategically positioned toolbelt in December.

Aqualisa Marketing Manager Jan Shepherd, who opted for the director's role behind the camera, said,
‘The calendar was the idea of our Quality Assurance Manager, Simon Smithers. I have to admit we had to do more than a little convincing and coaxing, but ultimately all of our colleagues were complete stars. The knowledge that the calendar was for a local charity encouraged the most camera-shy of our models and it's amazing what a well placed shower component can conceal!’

Aqualisa's 2007 calendar is on sale now and costs £5.00. All the proceeds will be donated to Valence School, which currently offers day and residential educations for ninety young children ranging from five to nineteen years old. School Business Manager Jenny Wheaton commented,

‘We've been lucky enough to benefit from some marvellous fundraising initiatives in recent times, but I must say that Aqualisa's effort is right up there with the best of them. In fact, I rather think the calendar sets a new precedent and we are sure it will be a huge success with Aqualisa's customers. On behalf of everyone at the school, I'd like to say a big thank you - your five minutes of exposure will really help us to make a difference in 2007.’

Aqualisa's 2007 calendar is available -
