Eurobath Team in Great North Run

Jemma Coles is running the Great North Run on the 30th September this year, on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support along with 16 of her colleagues from Eurobath.

Jemma says: 'The training is going well although unfortunately we have lost a couple of members due to a broken foot and a torn hamstring; some people will go to any lengths to avoid a bit of exercise! Luckily we have managed to fill these places at the last minute!

'As a group we have so far raised a serious amount of money (I’m keeping the actual amount a secret until we have finished!) If you would like to sponsor me for this great event and this fantastic charity then please click on the link below, this will take you to my online fund raising page. I would just like to say that I don’t normally look as grumpy as I do in this photo; I think the thought of running 13.10 miles is taking the strain!!!'

Lawcris 'Putts' its Customers First

Lawcris Panel Products hosted a charity golf day to remember last month, as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.

Customers, suppliers, employees and other members of the local business community teed off at the Sand Moor Golf Club in Leeds in a bid to raise vital funds for a number of charities including Macmillan Nurses, Leukemia Research, Wakefield Hospice, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the NSPCC.

This is the third year Lawcris has hosted a Charity Golf Day, having originally decided to hold an event in 2005 to raise funds for Leukemia Research.

Bigger and better than ever before 88 golfers took part including representatives from Egger, Kronospan and Wilsonart.

After an informal lunch, golfers took to the 18-hole course, and the day was rounded off with a three course evening meal and prize giving ceremony as well as a charity auction and entertainment from well known comedian Russ Williams.

Lawcris' Commercial Manager Paul Holstead said: ‘A huge success, the golf day has been our biggest fundraising event of the year and we are proud to have raised over £18,000 towards our target of £25,000 for our nominated charities. We'd like to thank our suppliers and customers for taking part and giving so generously.’

Zanussi-Electrolux Washing Machines Bring a Smile to Centrepoint Young People

On hearing about the plight of the young people who are housed and helped by leading youth homelessness charity Centrepoint, Electrolux wanted to do something to help.

The young people at Centrepoint spend sometimes up to a quarter of their weekly income on laundry costs which they can ill afford.

Electrolux donated 15 Zanussi-Electrolux washing machines to the national youth homelessness charity which were sited in their flats in and around the city.

All the machines are A rated and automatically adjust water to suit the load size, so they are energy efficient too.

Charlie Finnemore of Centrepoint said.

'Some of our residents are as young as 16 and you cannot imagine that something as ordinary as a washing machine can make such an impact. To be able to look after yourself is the most basic skill needed to live a normal life and a large part of this is caring for your appearance and having a comfortable home. We are extremely grateful to Electrolux for helping some of our residents to take these ordinary steps – which most of us take for granted - to becoming independent and useful members of society.'

Roman Raises Funds for Local Hospice

Roman Ltd hosted an evening with Estee Lauder at its factory and raised a total of £500 for the local hospice, St Teresa’s in Darlington

The evening saw an Estee Lauder representative provide a make-up and skin-care demonstration, giving advice and tips, whilst entertaining guests with witty anecdotes and stories. There was also a raffle running throughout the evening with top prizes donated from local businesses including a mountain bike, meals for two at top local restaurants and an overnight stay at a top hotel.

All those who attended had an excellent evening with much laughter. Roman laid on a buffet of nibbles and wine, and a local gift shop set up a stall selling gifts.

Roman has adopted St Teresa’s Hospice and the Darlington branch of Samaritans as the company's chosen charities for 2007 and will be arranging more events throughout the year to raise funds for these local causes. Roman hopes to raise a total of £5,500 throughout 2007 to donate to its chosen charities.

Sue Peacock and Alison Green of Roman, who organised the evening agreed it was a great success. Sue commented; 'It was an excellent evening all round. We raised quite a bit of money from ticket sales, but much of the money came from the sale of raffle tickets. The raffle prizes, donated by local businesses were excellent, and everybody wanted tickets. A big thank you to all those who donated prizes, they certainly went towards making the evening a success. We are looking forward to continuing fundraising throughout 2007 and really showing our support for these excellent local causes.'

Lawcris Builds Bridges with African School

Kind-hearted staff at Lawcris Panel Products have raised money to build a new footbridge and help out with other structural repairs at a school for deaf children in Nigeria.

The fundraising came about when Mike McFarland, who joined the company as a member of the business development team in 2006, told his colleagues about the work that his mother, Misan, was doing to help support the school. Misan McFarland is currently the Mayor of Warwick and, as part of her official term of office, has chosen a number of charities and causes to support both in the UK and in Africa.
The Alderstown School in Warri, Nigeria is the school that Misan attended as a child. Once a mainstream school, it is now a specialist school for children aged 4 - 12 who suffer from hearing and speech difficulties.

As well as being short on resources, The Alderstown School was also in a very poor state of repair. Having heard about the situation from friends and family back in Nigeria, Misan set about mobilising members of her local community to raise much needed funds for The Alderstown School. She also asked friends and family to make donations towards the school rather than to receive personal gifts to mark her 50th birthday.

Mike decided to support his mum's efforts and get his workmates at Lawcris on board. He asked colleagues to make a donation in exchange for guessing his weight - with the nearest guess winning a bottle of Champagne.

‘When I told them about the school and the money my Mum was trying to raise, everyone was up for it and more than happy to make a donation to guess how much I weigh,’ says Mike. ‘We have since found out that the money raised by the team at Lawcris was enough for the school to build a new footbridge linking two of the buildings across an area of marshland. There was also a little money left over to go towards other repairs.’

Hal Eccles, Marketing Manager at Lawcris said: ‘Mike joined us in 2006 and has proved himself to be a popular member of team here at Lawcris. When he told us about the fantastic work that his mum was doing to help support The Alderstown School in Nigeria we were more than happy to get on board and help out with a little extra fundraising. To know that, from one simple, fun activity, we managed to raise enough money to build a new footbridge is fantastic and we wish Misan McFarland well with her continued efforts to raise further funds to support the school.’
