HPPs
Little Britain Stars Raise £2,500 for Children in Need
HPPs
trade counter staff caused a kerfuffle at its Oldham headquarters recently
whilst raising over £2,500 for Children in Need.
Three staff at the furniture component supplier transformed themselves
into Little Britain look-alikes to raise money for the national fundraising
appeal.
Dave Johnson chose to spend the day as wheelchair bound Andy Pipkin, whilst
HPP newcomer John Cutler ran around after him dressed as long-suffering
Lou Todd. Melvyn Birch spent the day as Dennis Waterman.
A widescreen TV, normally used for watching product demonstrations, showed
Little Britain DVDs throughout the day. The trio also obtained tickets
to BBC North Wests Children in Need coverage at Blackpools
North Pier where they handed over a cheque to fundraising organisers.
Dave Johnson said: 'As a team we choose a different theme each year to
dress up as for the day to raise money for charity, and this year I decided
that I wanted that one!
'Wed like to thank all the HPP staff and customers who have helped
us to raise a fantastic amount of money for charity, and had a good laugh
at our expense at the same time!'
HPP managing director, Stephen Hill, said: 'The trade counter team do
a fantastic job fundraising each year and have exceeded all of the previous
years totals. They deserve a lot of credit for the effort they put
into the day.'
HPP, which employs over 130 staff at its sites in Oldham and Sheffield,
provides melamine-faced components, vinyl doors and fittings to more than
2000 clients throughout the UK.

Fundraiser's
Death Defying Bike Ride for Local Hospice
Congratulations
to tc bathrooms director Martin Chalcraft
who recently completed a death defying bike ride through the Nevada Desert
in the USA.
Martin,
along with nine other Wakefield Hospice fundraisers completed the 264
mile ride in extreme conditions, battling against temperatures regularly
over 90 degrees fahrenheit and against some of the Worlds harshest
terrain. The volunteers raised over £40,000 towards the £2.5m
it takes to run the hospice every year.
Martin Chalcraft explains: 'This has been one of the most amazing experiences
of my life. It was extremely tough and at times I didnt think Id
make it, but sheer determination and the strong support from the rest
of the team saw me through. I would like to thank all my friends, colleagues,
clients and suppliers for supporting me in raising over £5,000.'
He continues: 'Wakefield Hospice does some exceptional work and I wanted
to put my passion for cycling to good use.'
Martin trained for the challenge for four months, regularly cycling sixty
to seventy miles over the course of a week. However, nothing could have
prepared him or his fellow fundraisers for what lie ahead. Starting at
Beatty Junction in the Nevada Desert, Martin cycled at altitudes of 5318
feet through Panamint Springs, Furnace Creek, Devils Hole and Red
Rock Canyon before finishing in Las Vegas, where he and the other cyclists
celebrated their well deserved achievement. Described as A Land
of Extremes, Death Valley Park features a desert of sand dunes,
snow-capped mountains, multi-coloured rock layers, water-fluted canyons
and over 3 million acres of stone wilderness.
Martin continues: 'Sometimes we were doing over 60 miles a day and most
of this was up hill. It was great when we finally started to descend and
the run down to Las Vegas was one of the most exhilarating achievements
of my life!'
Wakefield Hospice provides holistic care for the terminally ill with palliative
care needs and their families.

On
the way to £50,000!
The
Bristan Group's bid to raise £50,000
in 2007 for Leukaemia Research is well underway - with more than £15,000
already in the coffers thanks to a number of well supported events. The
company's decision to support this worthy cause, in memory of Bristan
Group Sales Manager for Ireland Dennis Romo's baby daughter Lucy, has
captured the imagination and enthusiasm of staff across the Group, as
they have stepped up to the mark to turn their efforts into hard cash.
Earlier in the year, Phil Board from Gummers joined the thousands of London
Marathon runners and raised £151 by completing the race in a very
respectable time of four hours and 34 minutes. Another running success
was achieved by Chris Worrall, Jason Reynolds and James Parry - all from
Gummers - who raised £500 by completing the 5k Bromsgrove Fun Run
in May.
Sporting colleagues from Bristan raised £200 at the Sutton Fun Run,
and 15 plucky lads from Bristan's Goods In department have raised nearly
£1,000 in a sponsored head shave. Other money-raising events include
a sponsored slim by Gummers' Wayne Baker - who is well on the way to reaching
his £1000 target for losing four stone by November, and the tombola
stall at the Company's Fun Day in June raised over £1200.
The Bristan Group team - which included CEO Steve Lee and Bristan MD Roger
Williams also took part in the gruelling London Triathlon in August.
Collectively known as the Banana Army, the team took part in a 1500m swim,
followed by a 40km bike ride and topped off with a 10km run.

In
the Pink
Crosswater
took part in the Wear it Pink day for Breast Cancer on Friday 26th October.
The team, based in Dartford, wore pink to raise money and support the
charity. Some members of the team really got into the spirit of the day
by dressing up as fairies and domestic goddesses...and that was just the
men!
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Wear it Pink day encouraged
awareness and support as well as raising donations to fund vital research
into the disease. You can make a donation at http://www.wearitpink.co.uk.

Triathlon
Triumph for The Bristan Group
It
was celebrations all round when a 10-strong team of Bristan
Group employees successfully completed the gruelling London
Triathlon.
Raising money for the company's favoured charity for 2007 - Leukaemia
Research - the athletic team took part in a 1500m swim, followed by a
40km bike ride and topped off with a 10km run, with every team member
making the finish line of what is widely considered the toughest triathlon
in the UK.
As the only female in the team, Amy Brightwell did the Bristan Group particularly
proud by finishing incredibly strongly with an impressive time of just
2.33:37 (coming 30th out of the 156 women who took part), while Ian Lloyd
was the quickest male in the Bristan Group team, completing in 2.29:08
(coming 190th out of the 913 men who took part overall).
Bristan MD Roger Williams, who himself completed the event in an admirable
time of 2.35:24, comments: I have never seen so much white water
on the Thames, as wave after wave of swimmers thrashed their way towards
the finish line! We took part in support of a very worthy cause that is
close to our hearts. So far our efforts for the Triathlon have raised
over £6,000, with money still being pledged. It was hard work but
a great achievement and we are delighted that everyone did so well.

Shades
Helps Put the Fun in Charity Run
It
was fun in the sun for all at the recently held Wetherby Run 10k, which
has been sponsored by Moores Furniture Group
(Shades' parent company) for the second year running. A sporting team
of 20 Moores' employees completed the race, raising around £2,000
for its own chosen charities (Martin House Children's Hospice and the
Yorkshire Cancer Centre), plus Moores provided essential signage, the
awards podium and loaned livery for use by the event organisers, which
all helped the day go with a swing.
This year Moores also sponsored the Moores Mini-marathon, which is designed
to encourage families with small children to feel a part of this great
day. Moores donated prizes for the first over the finish line to further
help encourage youngsters to participate in sport and fitness events.
It is incredibly important to us as a company to support events
such as the Wetherby Run, not least because it is a great day out for
the whole family and the money raised goes to such worthy causes,
comments Peter Wilson, Chief Executive.
