New at ZOW - Dynamic Space® by Blum for More Comfort in Kitchens

Dynamic Space®, the new quality of space usage and motion in kitchens, was the focus of attention at the booth of fittings manufacturer Julius Blum at ZOW 2004. Blum made the most of the show to discuss new kitchen standards with visitors.

To this end, planning and fit-out solutions were on display which were based on the division of the kitchen into five activity zones: provisions, storage, cleaning, preparation and cooking/baking.

By using Blum’s ‘Zone Planner’, which was presented for the first time at ZOW, individual goods can be assigned to the right zone in just a few steps. This new planning aid also shows users how to put the space available to its proper use. Items that are frequently needed are stored close to worktops in keeping with good ergonomics.

The new planning tool is the logical supplement to Blum’s Storage Space Planner and assists professionals in their efforts to plan kitchens. Designers can quickly establish the client’s idea of a functional kitchen which is shaped by lifestyle, size of household and requirements. As a result, five activity zones are generated which are each a ‘centre of maximum efficiency’.

By means of simple, easily comprehensible examples, Blum can immediately demonstrate the enhanced comfort held out by a kitchen planned in this way. Users need to cover far shorter distances to do the same number of jobs if items are stored in the right cabinets.

The right things in the right place
The solutions on display at ZOW demonstrated how kitchen work zones can be equipped with suitable carcases. Blum presented modern storage space solutions for corner cabinets, sink units and large toe-kick (plinth) pull-outs. The combination of Blum’s standard Tandem pull-out components is not the only thing that makes these solutions convincing. A further strong point is the multitude of possibilities of differentiation which allow solutions to be adapted to individual furniture designs. Then there are the special effects such as Blumotion, the motion that closes doors and drawers gently and quietly. Users are fascinated by the feather-light glide and silent closing action of drawers, pull-outs and doors even when fully laden.

Idéo Bain 2004 Final Report

Its concept attracted 250 French and international exhibitors, who occupied over 30,000 m2, and visitor interest was excited by the top of the range products on show from the industry’s big names and the numerous new exhibitors. Idéo Bain confirmed the importance of offering manufacturers and their partners an international trade show in Paris capable of generating traffic and raising the profile of the entire industry.

A unifying show:

Over 41% of the visitors to Idéo Bain were installers, who flocked to the show, whilst merchants accounted for19.7 % and specifiers (architects, contractors and interior designers) represented over 22 %.

A show that attracts the consumer:

The advice points were a success, enabling consumers to find answers to all their questions, as well as the addresses of craftsmen or show rooms throughout France.

ASFI 2004 Minimal Investment for Maximum Exposure

Bookings continue to come in for The Association of Suppliers to the Furniture Industry’s next ASFI showcase scheduled for October 10th-13th at the NEC, Birmingham UK. Moving away from previous ASFI exhibitions, this year’s furniture supplies event has been completely revamped.

ASFI 2004 has a new format which ASFI says will appeal to both exhibitors and visitors alike and underlines its position as the UK's largest and most important furniture supplies show. With an all inclusive package for exhibitors, ASFI is taking responsibility for the outline display, build up, construction and breakdown. The stand package also includes furniture, lighting and power and carpet. With pre-show logistics and planning reduced to a minimum – there is not even a need for a stand designer – all the exhibitor needs to do is arrive with displays and literature.

Says the Association’s Chairman Roy Farrant, ‘ASFI 2004 is a brilliant opportunity for exhibitors to put their products in front of a very wide range of visitors – ASFI is the only way it can be done in the UK. Exhibitors are guaranteed maximum exposure whilst at the same time benefiting from increased cost-effectiveness, less stand preparation and smaller more focused stand areas. ASFI 2004 will be THE place for exhibitors to showcase latest products for the industry, and will attract serious buyers, manufacturers and distributors looking for new component solutions.'

There will be over 241 stands spread over 6.048 sq m of floor space with an expected 15,000 visitors across the four days. Companies that have recently booked and who will be taking advantage of the new stand packages include:
Lectra Systems Ltd, Waivis, Linak-UK Ltd, Merenda, Morrells Woodfinishes, Emafyl Architectural, Titus International, PUR Mobelprofile and Laguna Sp. Z. o. o.

BMA Conference 2003 - The Cost of Poor Design

A record turnout of members is expected at the BMA conference, held at Nailcote Hall in Warwickshire with 40 attendees from 25 companies.

In its third year of operation The Bathroom Manufacturers Association (BMA) has rapidly become one of the most representative associations in our industry, with a membership that accounts for £750m of bathroom business in a total bathroom market of around £1.1 billion. The energy and ambition injected into the association by inaugural Presidential team of Roger Cooper and Martyn Denny continues unabated under the 2003/2005 President Martyn Denny, supported by the Vice President Ted Goold.

Current activity sees the association driving itself to the very core of the industry with initiatives such as the creation of a Centre of Excellence that will benefit industry members and consumers alike.

The Centre of Excellence, which is managed by the association’s Marketing Committee under the chairmanship of David Osborne, has already created a series of consumer-friendly Fact Sheets, aimed at making the process of buying a new bathroom much easier for homeowners.

Latest plans include an on-line exhibition, and an industry training & qualifications initiative and much more dynamic interrelation with the Media, all aimed at ensuring the Bathroom Industry is positioned much higher in the consumer’s perception.

The 2003 Conference focuses on the design process and examines the importance of gathering information from research, design, technology and the end user.

Specialist speakers consist of David Humphries, who is a director of design-house PDD and talks about innovation partnership and about understanding human behaviour in order to create the ultimate product. Paul Snee of the RNIB looks at sensory design as it relates to the visually impaired, disabled and older population markets and Tracy Westell of DEFRA explains the governments enhanced capital allowance scheme that is aimed at helping manufacturers especially in the design of water-saving products.

On the business front past President Roger Cooper will present a ‘State of the Market’ report. Roger will show the healthy state of the UK bathroom market, especially when compared to the relatively flat markets in the rest of Europe.

Villeroy & Boch at 'Cersaie 2003'

One year after the Tile Division merged with that of Bathroom and Kitchens, Villeroy & Boch is presenting a new marketing mix for the tile sector. It includes extensive reorganisation of the product range and effectively focuses on the Villeroy & Boch brand. Part of this strategic reorientation is the partnership with Graniti Fiandre, which enables Villeroy & Boch to break into an important product segment with high demand levels. The common goal of all strategic measures is to strengthen partnerships with the retail and manual sectors, as well as with architects, to achieve sustained stability of Villeroy & Boch's market position and guarantee competitive advantages as a result of the range's quality and design.

Product-range restructuring as a central marketing-mix element includes above all the concept character of the new tile series. This idea places emphasis on innovative concepts, instead of simply concentrating on individual products and designs. Owing to their system and modular nature, they provide new solutions and create greater scope for design. This means that a wealth of interior design tasks can be realised not only in the private sector, but also in the project-business sector.

Idèo Bain Confirms its Success and Names its new Bathroom Set Area 'Bathrooms of the World'

From 4th to 9th February 2004, Idèo Bain the Paris bathroom exhibition will be the professional event where everyone involved in the world of bathrooms will meet to discover the sector's new trends.

Over 80% of the 2004 show has already been sold. New exhibitors include: Delpha, Bisazza and Cristina.

Idèo Bain has now established itself as the key show for an entire industry and as an unmissable event at the start of 2004.

In 2002, Living Bathroom '100 Bathroom Ideas' was a great success with visitors and the press alike. For 2004, Idèo Bain - the Bathroom Exhibition has named its new area for bathroom sets: (labulle), bathrooms of the world.

The organisers have appointed Daniel Rozenzstroch* and Franáois Muracciole.* to design this area.

(labulle) bathrooms of the world will provide professionals and private individuals with the opportunity to discover ideas and to gain vital inspiration for the creation of new bathrooms. The project's designers have based their concept on the points of the compass, which provide four guiding themes:

*North: Scandinavian influences
*East: Asian rituals
*South: Mediterranean cultures
*West: European traditions

Within these four areas manufacturers will be able to display their collections in ways that satisfy the desires and needs of the visitors. Some of the bathrooms will be the work of well known designers and stylists.

'(labulle) bathrooms of the world is a unique source of inspiration and an event all of its own' declares Carine Tissot Caubet, the Exhibition Director.

Idèo Bain will be held in Hall 1 of Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in conjunction with Interclima, the international HVAC-R exhibition, which runs from 3rd to 6th February 2004.

Idèo Bain will also be open to the general public on 7th, 8th and 9th February 2004, when private individuals planning a bathroom will be able to visit.

Idèo Bain is an FISB (Fèdèration des Industries de la Salle de Bains / Federation of Bathroom Manufacturers) exhibition, organised by Reed Exhibitions. Every year Reed Exhibitions organises 440 events in 49 sectors of business.

ASFI 2004: the UK Furniture Supplies Event

ASFI the UK furniture supplies event is being re-launched for 2004 in a refreshing and exciting new format with an all inclusive package for exhibitors.

Sales are going well and companies that have booked so far, include: Ashwood Timber & Plastics Ltd, BHK (UK) Ltd, Chairman Software Ltd, David Clouting Ltd, Crofts & Assinder Ltd, Dudley Tool & Engineering Co Ltd, Ferrari, Hettich UK Ltd Partnership, Hill’s Panel Products Ltd, Hydewood Ltd, IntAfit, Isaac Lord Ltd, Jet Press Ltd, Jowat Adhesives, Robert Linnemann Intl Gmbh, Martin & Co Ltd, Morland, PAL Extrusions Ltd.

Moving away from previous ASFI exhibitions, the new show will adopt a uniform display format throughout Hall 6 at Birmingham's NEC. Stands will utilise the same Display Unit components, albeit in different combinations, so allowing the product to have maximum impact upon the visitor. Exhibitors will simply have to turn up with their product and literature for the four day show.

The layout of the hall has also been overhauled to reflect the new exhibition format. With four central catering areas included, these will create a pleasant environment for relaxing off-stand or meeting with customers.

The exhibition will have an 'open' feel to it with minimal partition walling. All stand areas will have a white back wall at 2.4 metres in height and will be divided from their neighbour using a 2440mm Display Unit utilising product panels. A selection of different Display Units will also be available at no extra cost, and no limitation on the quantity per stand.

ASFI will be hosting a number of exhibitor days prior to the show where exhibitors can consult with a designer free of charge. Advice will be available on how to focus on the innovative and how to get the best from display stands.

With ASFI taking responsibility for the outline display, build up, construction and breakdown, exhibitor inconvenience is minimised. Instead companies can benefit from increased cost effectiveness with less stand preparation, smaller stand areas and subsequently fewer staff needed during the four days.
