Britannia Joins Forces with York Festival

Range cooker supplier Britannia is to provide two cookers for the annual York Festival of Food & Drink this month.

The range cookers will be installed in the city's superb 15th century Guildhall (the Festival's official 'Food Theatre') and are to be used during a variety of events during the two-day event.

The theme of the Festival will be 'Promoting Yorkshire Produce' and there will be numerous opportunities for visitors to discover how to cook fine food from all over the region.

‘We are delighted to be able to make a practical contribution to this wonderful festival,’ says Britannia marketing manager Henneke Duistermaat. ‘Britannia's slogan is 'Taste is everything' and that will certainly be the case during this event!

‘A wide variety of dishes will be prepared on the Britannia range cookers, and we're sure all the chefs will be delighted in the flexibility a Britannia cooker can offer.

‘Our Quickstart facility, for example, enables main ovens to heat up to optimum temperature in just six minutes and our unique Chef Top, a solid stainless hotplate which sits neatly in the centre of the gas hotplate, is ideal for cooking any food normally prepared under the grill or in a frying pan, wok or griddle - it is so versatile (you can even make toasted sandwiches on it) and it provides a healthy way to cook.’

The York Festival of Food runs from September 16 to 25, and contributors to the festival include Shaun Hill, Anthony Flinn and Germain Schwab.

Saiedue Living: More and More International

According to the organisers, the twenty-fourth edition of Saiedue Living, the International Exhibitions on Architecture, Interior Finishing, Building Renewal and Technologies held from 16th to 20th March 2005 at the Bologna Trade Fair Centre ended with exceptional attendance figures.

In five days, 130,071 trade professionals visited the show, an increase of 6.51% compared to the 2004 edition and up 10.41% over the 2003 edition, with similar products on display. The figures represent +35.1% (+36.52% compared to those for 2003) if we consider the 12,084 visitors from abroad.

The expansion of the Bologna Trade Fair Centre, with the construction of two new exhibition halls 16 and 18, made it possible to streamline layouts and visits to the show, to the satisfaction of both exhibitors and the public. Coverage of the entire trade fair centre, as well as the construction of an additional exhibition hall, 21 bis, led to a total of 164,000 square metres of exhibition space. A fourth entrance was added to the trade fair centre in the north, and proved to be the preferred entryway to the new exhibition areas 16 and 18.

A major new development awaits professionals in 2006: Saiedue Living will move the opening to Tuesday 14th March and close on Saturday 18th March, and the Bologna Trade Fair Centre will be the place to celebrate the important milestone of 25 years of business.

SPATEX Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

With 86 exhibitors already confirmed, a new park & ride scheme and an improved layout for the show floor – it’s all happening at the 10th ever SPATEX, the exhibition for professionals in the pool, spa and sauna industry.

Taking place from 5-7th February 2006 at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Exhibition Centre, nearly 2,500 visitors attended the last show with over 100 exhibitors displaying a wide array of products and services for both the public and trade.

New for 2006, the organisers have set up a free park and ride scheme from Brighton racecourse that will operate for the duration of the show. This alleviates any issues related to in-town parking and the site is just a 10-minute bus journey from the exhibition. The layout of the show floor has also been improved to make visitor navigation easier.

'It’s hard to believe that SPATEX has been going for ten years,' comments show organiser Tom Togher. 'We are making improvements to the show format this year that will benefit both exhibitors and visitors. Having free park and ride will make a huge difference to everyone and we are delighted we have been able to set this up.'

Those interested in exhibiting or visiting Spatex 2006 should contact the organisers by calling 01264 358558 or visiting http://www.spatex.co.uk.

Sink Manufacturer to Clean up at Interbuild

Birmingham-based Catering Equipment, which specialises in manufacturing tailor-made sinks, believes a presence at the UK’s major building and construction industry show will rocket its annual turnover beyond £1million for the first time.

Said managing director Anthony Prestage: 'We believe that attending Interbuild can become a real milestone in our company’s nine-year history.

'It will absolutely put us in touch with our target audience and our aim will be to form strategic associations and relationships with people who didn’t realise we existed.

'Our philosophy is the more you tell the more you sell, and a huge platform like Interbuild provides an ideal opportunity to really make people aware of what we do.'

Catering Equipment produces a comprehensive range of specialist sized commercial sinks and sink-related components.

It supplies four basin designs in 40 different sizes, from the compact 250mm dia hemispherical up to 600mm by 500mm square commercial sinks. All can be delivered overnight to anywhere in the UK, thanks to Catering Equipment’s central warehouse location.

The 304 (1810) quality stainless steel sinks are electro-polished to improve corrosion resistance while acting as a further protection against bacteria.

Catering Equipment already has an impressive list of high-street brand clients including Waitrose, Tesco and ADSA Wal-Mart, as well as supplying hundreds of schools, prisons and hospitals.

Many inner city bars are also requesting designs from the specialist’s extensive range in an attempt to create outlandish washrooms – designed to deliver high visual impacts.

Anthony added: 'Often commercial and domestic interior designers and builders are looking for something in a rare specification or searching for stainless steel odds and ends but don’t know that we can supply them. We want that to change and Interbuild is a fantastic venue to showcase ourselves and launch us in the right direction.'

Catering Equipment will be just one of hundreds of exhibitors at Interbuild 2006 in April from 23-27 – UK construction's premier event which attracted more than 44,000 trade professionals when last held in 2004.

Entry to the exhibition costs £20 but this can be avoided by pre-registering for tickets online at http://www.interbuild.com or by calling the Ticket Hotline on 0870 429 4558.

Bemis to Extend Silentium at Cersaie

Toilet seat manufacturer, Bemis, is anticipating great success when it shows a variety of new and leading products at Cersaie, 2005.

Under the spotlight, along with many other Bemis products, will be the 2019CL seat which has been fitted with ‘Silentium’ technology.

A novelty in this sector ‘Silentium’ is a device which is completely encapsulated inside the hinge and is based on the same technology which is used in kitchen furniture, namely vertically opening doors in kitchen units.

‘Silentium’ technology signals the end of the battle of the sexes in the bathroom as there will never be any excuse to leave the seat up again. With one small gesture the seat and/or lid closes automatically and silently.

‘Silentium’ technology is discreetly hidden away within the hinge mechanism and therefore does not detract from the seat's aesthetic.

‘Silentium’ is currently available on the 2019CL seat but will soon be available on other Bemis seats.

Also being presented is the 2050CPS seat. This top of the range product, fits all standard universal toilet bowls, and is characterised by elegant design and ergonomic shaping.

Made from Durolux, which is a thermosetting resin which is able to maintain its colour overtime and has a shine similar to ceramic, both the 2050CPS and 2019CL seats are scratch resistant and resilient to burns, and thanks to its hygienic properties it is suitable to a variety of settings including public environments.

Bemis will be exhibiting at Cersaie, Bologna 27th September - 1st October on stand A29 pad 31.

New Creative Directions for ldeal Standard at 100% Design

Shower enclosure and fittings manufacturer ldeal Standard will be showcasing products from its latest collaboration with top designers, at the 100% Design Exhibition, at Earls Court in September this year.

In line with ldeal Standard's strategy for incorporating new technology into simple and stylish shapes, the Serenis showering environment (3600 model pictured) comes from award winning London design house PearsonLloyd.

The intelligence of the design can be seen in the water-delivery system, which is structurally integrated into the Serenis 1800 and Serenis 3600 models and incorporates an external valve that allows the user to turn on the water before they enter the shower. This feature, which removes any cold water held in the pipes and warms-up the showering area prior to use, is made possible thanks to a new invention by ldeal Standard: the Ceramic In-line Valve.

Serenis, which was previewed in prototype form last year, has already been shown to trade customers at bathroom exhibitions in London and Frankfurt and has been nominated for a number of awards including the Design & Decoration Award and the Elle Decoration Design Award.

ldeal Standard's Commercial Manager for Acrylics & Wellness, Sharyn Coleman, sums up the design ethos, 'Good design in shower enclosures demands that, as well as being beautiful, modern showering systems need to lead in functionality - it's what we call 'purposeful innovation'!'

ldeal Standard's latest design direction suggests a greater emphasis on a softer, more human look in comparison to some of the more stark and geometric edges of the recent minimalist trend. Serenis epitomises spatial feeling and ultra modern styling that will seamlessly blend into any environment. Also on show will be brass fittings from Jado, the new TT shower valves from Trevi and the Trevi Moonshadow shower head and kit collection designed by Robin Levien RDI.

Preparations for the First Deutsche Ausbaumesse in Full Swing

The preparations for the première of the Deutsche Ausbaumesse in Nürnberg from 27-29 April 2006 are in full swing. Well-known companies have already registered to exhibit. Companies can take advantage of the early booking discount until 15th September this year. The Deutsche Ausbaumesse Essen-Nürnberg is a cross-trade event that combines the Holzbau und Ausbau and Stuck-Putz-Trockenbau trade fairs and the large congresses, the German Structural Timber Building Congress, the Congress on Building Finishing and the German Tiling Congress. The Deutsche Ausbaumesse is the only exhibition for the finishing trade in Southern Germany next year.

'The aim of this exhibition initiative is to bundle events and forces to make a contribution to cutting the exhibiting costs of the building supply industry,' says Walter Hufnagel, Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse. 'The Deutsche Ausbaumesse also takes into account the recognisable market trend towards cross-trade full services,' continues Hufnagel.

New exhibition committee: Deutsche Ausbaumesse geared to market situation
At their initial meeting in Baden-Baden at the end of May, the member companies of the new exhibition committee described the Deutsche Ausbaumesse project as a 'sensible and logically consistent step'. The exhibition committee thinks 'the combination of closely related trades on the visitors’ side, the clear positioning of the exhibition and the concentration on initially three days of exhibiting is a good exhibition concept that is geared to the difficult market situation'.

The following companies are members of the exhibition committee of the Deutsche Ausbaumesse: BayWa, EGGER Holzwerkstoffe Brilon, Erlus, haubold-kihlberg, LAFARGE DACHSYSTEME, Mafell, Pavatex, Rettenmeier Holding, ROTO BAUELEMENTE, SAINT-GOBAIN ISOVER G+H, Velux Deutschland and Xella Trockenbau-Systeme.

Focus on wood construction, roofing, plastering and dry construction
The main product segment of the first Deutsche Ausbaumesse covers materials, products and systems for wood construction, roofing, plastering and dry construction. The spectrum of products is supplemented with tools and machinery, services, software and technical information for the finishing trades. A new feature at the exhibition is the special show 'Building Services for the Finishing Trade', which presents selected systems for building services, e.g. for decentralised air conditioning, ventilation, sanitary engineering and heating.

This broad range of products not only makes the Deutsche Ausbaumesse very interesting for contractors carrying out carpentry, wood construction, dry construction and roofing work. Architects, engineers, builders’ merchants and public developers can also source information about new finishing products and trends at the trade fair. 'As far as the number of exhibitors and visitors is concerned, we expect about 350 exhibitors and some 25,000 visitors at the première of the Deutsche Ausbaumesse,' forecasts Roland Kast, Project Manager at NürnbergMesse. The German Structural Timber Building Congress, the Congress on Building Finishing and the German Tiling Congress take place at the same time as the exhibition.

Partners of the Deutsche Ausbaumesse
The first Deutsche Ausbaumesse Essen-Nürnberg is supported by powerful partners like the European Federation of Timber Construction, Bund Deutscher Zimmermeister (BDZ), Verbände des Bayerischen Zimmerer- und Holzbaugewerbes (VBZH), Landesverband Bayerischer Bauinnungen (BBV, LBB, VBB) and Fachverband Deutsches Fliesengewerbe.

More information about the Deutsche Ausbaumesse is available on the Internet at http://www.deutsche-ausbaumesse.de.

Bathsystem Looks for Remedy at Interbuild 2006

An off-site bathroom and kitchen pod manufacturer aims to further enhance its standing in the UK market with a major flag-waving mission at Interbuild 2006.

Italian based Bathsystem Europe says that while most people in the construction trade will be familiar with its products from high-profile projects such as the Lowry Hotel in Salford, they may not associate them with its brand name.

The company intends to remedy that as soon as possible and sees a visit to Interbuild in April as a golden opportunity to gain some additional exposure.
'We've been working as a company in the UK for eight years but marketed via agents and not often under our own name,' explained UK Operations Director David Wardle.

'While our product is known in certain quarters of the UK construction trade, it's not known by nearly as many people as we would like, so we are very keen to develop the Bathsystem brand name.'

The company operates extensively in the Republic of Ireland, where Anja Winterwerber heads up the Dublin office, while David is based in Cheshire.
Around 6,000 pods per year are produced from factories near Brescia in the Lombardy region of Italy and at the newly-opened Longford plant in Ireland - and production capabilities will expand even further in the next year or so.

Bathsystem maintains that by manufacturing in controlled factory conditions, no time is lost to poor weather and the quality of the finished product is consistent and controlled.

There are also added benefits on site in terms of reducing health and safety risks, environmental impact and addressing sustainability far outweigh the traditional options.

All projects are bespoke so it is possible for clients to choose from a wide range of fixtures and fittings from budget to luxurious and modern styles.

As well as the prestigious Manchester hotel, the company supplies university halls of residence and has recently completed projects for numerous hotel groups. Residential projects include The Bridge for Persimmon and Brindley Place, Birmingham.

Added David: 'Our aim is to stamp the name of Bathsystem around the community of architects, developers and contractors and we feel confident that Interbuild will produce that audience for us.

'We have one of the most technically advanced production systems on the market and are planning to turn a few heads when we meet up with familiar and new faces at the exhibition.'

Bathsystem will be just one of hundreds of exhibitors at Interbuild 2006 - UK construction's premier event which attracted more than 44,000 trade professionals when last held in 2004.

It takes place from April 23 to 27 at the NEC in Birmingham and entry is £20 on the day but free to visitors who log on at http://www.interbuild.com to register their details in advance.

Luxury American Kitchen Appliances Debut at House & Garden Fair 2005

American brands Sub-Zero Refrigeration and Wolf Cooking Instruments made their debut at the Daily Telegraph/House & Garden Fair 2005 with the new-to-the-market, stainless steel PRO 48 refrigerator from Sub-Zero. The 48" stainless steel Wolf dual fuel range cooker was also on the stand.

‘The importance of the kitchen is growing as people use it more than ever as the preferred venue for relaxed entertaining and cooking becomes a group activity. As a result American cookers and fridge freezers are becoming increasingly popular,’ says Craig Davies CEO of the Westye Group Europe. ‘Increasingly people entertain at home and cater for larger numbers than just the nuclear family so the size and capability of their kitchen appliances is very important,’ he continues.

The PRO 48 marries performance and design in a new way for home refrigeration. Created in 100% steel the fridge is 84" in height x 48" wide with a total storage capacity of 30.1.cubic feet. The fridge has dual refrigeration, triple evaporation which keeps food fresher for longer.

The refrigerator’s advanced controls adjust intuitively to individual usage patterns. Auto-close hinges allow the doors to swing open and tap shut effortlessly.

Freestanding or built-in, the PRO48 is the latest example of how Sub-Zero keeps re-writing the rules of food preservation. The PRO 48 conforms to the Department of Energy standards for residential use, consuming less energy than a 100-watt light bulb.

Other recent additions to the Sub-Zero range include the 695 model which, extends the boundaries of contemporary design in refrigeration. The Sub-Zero range continues to include the integrated 700 series; the 200 series of under-counter models as well as the 400 series of wine storage.

All combination Sub-Zero models include the engineered dual compressor refrigeration system, utilising two separate self-contained cooling systems that prolong the life of fresh foods as well as preserving frozen foods for longer. Sub-Zero products are available in Classic Stainless Steel.

Also on show was the Wolf 48" dual fuel range cooker. The versatile hob offers a range of gas powered cooking options including the charbroiler and griddle with the fine control of dual stacked burners. The dual convection electric ovens allow the cook to select one of eight cooking modes precisely suited to the requirements of the recipe. The porcelain blue oven is self-cleaning.

The range of Wolf Cooking Instruments includes dual fuel ranges, pyrolytic built-in wall ovens, electric, gas and integrated cooktops as well as warming drawers, steamers, fryers, woks and grills.

All the built-in ovens have a dual convection system which delivers even temperature and airflow throughout the oven, providing convenience and control over eight different cooking modes. Two fans and four heating elements operate either simultaneously or in sequence to ensure faultless baking and roasting.

Top kitchen designers, Mark Wilkinson, Smallbone of Devizes and Underwood kitchens also featured Sub-Zero and Wolf products on their stands at the House & Garden Fair.

National Furniture Conference 2005 -'The Changing Face of the Furniture Supply Chain'

Looking for new ways and fresh approaches on how to make your supply chain work for you? Join FIRA and Qualitas on Thursday 14th July 2005 at the Heritage Motor Centre to discover ways to drive furniture sales into the future.

Good products well sold are not just about closing the sale; this year’s programme will provide delegates with a wealth of understanding on wider retailer issues. Topics covered range from sustainability and lean manufacturing, importing quality products, to dynamic after sales solutions.

Ian Goldsmith will be joining FIRA and Qualitas to share his views on corporate social responsibility. Having been Group Planning Director at Travis Perkins for five years, Ian's current responsibilities include corporate strategy, marketing and environmental issues. Travis Perkins, a builder’s merchant with 740 nation wide stores, hit the headlines at the end of 2004 when it completed the acquisition of Wickes, the UK’s third largest DIY retailer and now one of the big players in the Kitchen and bedroom furniture market.

A premier venue with an ambience all of its own, the Heritage Motor Centre, Warwick, is a remarkable museum that charts the history of the British car industry from 1896 to present day. 'This is guaranteed to be a conference you will never forget.'
