Homag
Shows the Future at Woodmex
The
best ever was the consensus of opinion that described Homag U.K.'s
effort at Woodmex 2004. The professionally built stand by the Homag Group's
international team presented a co-ordinated and efficient layout to showcase
the wide range of high-tech machinery solutions as well as provide an
effective and ambient meeting and business activity area.
Homag U.K.'s Managing Director, Paul Cooper, said that although this was
personally his first Woodmex experience, he was genuinely impressed and
encouraged by the reaction from staff and customers alike, by the success
at the show in terms of both enquiries and actual orders and by the tremendous
team spirit shown by the entire staff.

Homag
U.K. Managing Director Paul Cooper on the best ever Woodmex stand
A
precedent was set in as much as two of the most advanced machines were
allowed their European debut at Woodmex rather than the usual policy of
waiting for next year's Ligna show in Hannover. These were the super-fast
Weeke BHP520 CNC machining and processing centre and the Homag BOF211
Venture 12 CNC router.
The 885 square metre stand had 'something for everyone' from the all new,
low cost and compact Brandt KDF340 single-sided edgebander for the entry-level
market with pre-milling incorporated into the machine for the first time
... to the giant BAZ722 CNC stationary processing centre, the high capacity
Holzma HPL510 beam saw and the new Martin T92 throughfeed moulder.
There were opportunities for visitors to see cutting edge technology for
both panel processing and joinery disciplines at all levels and these
included Weeke's compact Venture 3 CNC machining centre (sold at the show),
wide belt sanding solutions from Bütfering, Joos press technology,
the new HPP250 compact beam saw from Holzma and Martin's peerless range
of classical machinery. Special application equipment was also exhibited
, exemplified by the Ligmatech VKV700 box closing and sealing system for
flat-pack furniture products with an automatic setting systems and capacity
for up to 7 boxes per minute.

Nested
components on the outfeed shuttle table of the super-fast Weeke processing
centre that made its European debut at Woodmex
The
new Weeke BHP520 processing centre was demonstrated with a full set of
kitchen carcase components - including face routed doors and drawer fronts
being produced in a single nesting at very high speed from MDF. The panels
were cut from the main head using a milling tool and all drilling, shaping
and routing procedures also completed. The shuttle table configuration
made for greatly increased capacity.
During the show the number of Sold with thanks to...... notices
on machines steadily increased. Orders were also taken for machines not
on display including a major order for Weinmann timber frame housing construction
machinery.
Paul Cooper said that his overall impression of the show was excellent
with the quality of visitors very high and the volumes well manageable.
The Success with a System theme was successfully implemented
at he exhibition and this involved strong emphasis on Homag U.K.'s service
and back-up facilities and those of all Group members. Woodmex 2004 -
a good show for Homag U.K.

Indusvents
Super-Blower is Unique at Woodmex
The
Woodmex stand of industrial ventilation engineers Indusvent
showed the future of medium to high capacity industrial filter technology
with a special exhibition model of the Super-Blower system - unlike any
other filtration system on show or available.
The
cut down and internally visible demonstration on the stand
entailed the top and bottom sections of one of the variations showing
the electronically-controlled system for individual bag cleaning on a
continuous basis via compressed air nozzles activated by pressure sensors
and, at the base, Super-Blower's scraper waste removal concept.
A new and upgraded control panel was also on display and demonstrated
enhanced control capabilities and monitoring systems - even to the extent,
explains Indusvent, that information can be relayed to designated mobile
phones, PCs or other communication receptors as required. Ultimately,
every Super-Blower installed will enjoy its own personal website with
full operational history and real-time, in-progress reporting. The importance
of this aspect of manufacturing has fast moved to the forefront of production
planning for a wide range of long term reasons.
The state-of-the-art negative pressure Super-Blower filter offers an all-round
solution with comprehensive advantages for the furniture and timber sectors.
Indusvent already has a growing number of prestigious installations throughout
the UK where customers have realised significant benefits in every area.
These include efficiency, reliability, low maintenance, emission compliance,
low energy costs and exceptional space saving. Many of these were documented
on informative display panels on the stand.
The Super-Blower incorporates totally new technology with a number of
patented component designs, 24-hour continuous operation system and sophisticated
in-built diagnostics and monitoring.
The negative pressure is central to the unique technology of the Super-Blower
system. This means that extracted dirty air is injected directly
into the filter medium and the powerful main exhaust fans remain on the
clean air side of the filter enabling them to avoid contact
with foreign (possible damaging) objects and to operate at a dramatically
reduced noise level.
To support this level of power and the other special design features of
the Super-Blower, the units have to be of particularly strong design and
construction. This includes the specification of high-strength 3mm fabricated
steel and a high-durability powder coated finish. The Super-Blower includes
a fully automatic filter cleaning system which is computer activated on
demand from a special pressure sensing system.
This is the PowerPulse system which monitors the differential pressure
across the filter media. When activated a pulse of compressed air is injected
down one filter bag at a time via special nossles mounted on an internal
maintenance-free track with its own integral compressor which ensures
a constant supply of clean, dry, oil-free compressed air. These blow the
dust off the outside of the bags into the hopper discharge units.
The process has a number of advantages including avoiding surges of dust
discharge and maintaining maximum filter area during the cleaning cycle.
Not only does this ensure continuous, maximum efficiency operation of
the system and therefore the entire extraction operation, it also ensures
that the filter medium is kept under minimum stress from contamination
overload and this extends the usable life of the bags. The energy savings
associated with this concept are significant. The consequent low comparative
running costs offer an attractive return on the initial outlay along with
the many production advantages in the factory. The clean exhaust air can
be either vented to atmosphere (summer) or redirected into the factory
for winter heating.
The Super-Blower is designed with a scraper discharge system so there
are no chain conveyors to maintain and this is an important factor in
the reliability, maintenance-free and low noise operation.
The numerous safety and protection devices ensure that the Superblower
has achieved all safety compliance ratings.
There are many more outstanding features of the Super-Blower not detailed
here. The advantages offered can benefit users across the industry. Indusvent
were extremely encouraged by the interest and positive response they received
from a wide variety of visitors to their stand.

Boere
Succeeds and Sells at Woodmex
Dutch
wide belt sanding specialist Boere had an extremely successful Woodmex
with just the right selection of machines designed to demonstrate the
companys ability to provide sanding solutions for all applications.
Perfection in Sanding is a motto that Boere says it has been
able to adapt with confidence over many years now and the companys
machines operate successfully in over 600 UK companies.
Joining
Boere personnel on the stand were representatives from Calderbrook following
the recent announcement of the joint sales and service venture between
the two companies in the UK. Calderbrook's Tony Hoyle says that they have
extensive technical knowledge of Boere sanders having worked with many
used Boere's as customers upgrade. This is the first time we've
moved into this area of selling and servicing new such machines and would
only contemplate doing so with machines of Boere's unquestionable quality.
The machines on show were the Elite 1300TKKC a heavy duty top working
sander with 2 contact roller units and a combi unit (contact roller and
sanding pad) with a respective working width and height of 1300mm and
150mm and 2620mm belt length of added product quality and belt life. This
sander was displayed with both infeed and outfeed tables and has a special
specification including a 40hp (instead of 25hp) motor on the first contact
roller as well as electro-pneumatic control to the sanding pad and frequency
converters for belt sped adjustment.
The Select 1300 KC on show was a top working machine with contact roller
and combi unit where both heads had up-rated 20hp motors. Feed speed is
infinitely variable from 4-15m/min and the sander has a very high working
and safety specification as standard.
Also on show was the Sandrite 1100 KC Basic also with a contact roller
and combi head. This machine was sold off the stand. This compact sander
has an 1100mm working width but still a 150mm working height and also
has an infinitely variable 4-15m/min feed speed. For the smaller workshop
looking for the ultimate in reliability and flexibility the Sandrite holds
out maximum advantages.
Under the banner of BMS Holland a Boere company 3 smaller
edge sanders were on display: The KS-200 includes a device for a tiltable
head; The KS-200F has a special device for veneer sanding and the KS-1
is an affordable, versatile sander in any workshop. Boere's international
MD, Pieter Boere was on the stand throughout along with technical staff
from Holland. He said that he was very encouraged by the level of interest
in individual companies looking at sanders to solve specific problems
or take on an even wider variety of specialist applications.

John
Boddy Timber has Successful Launch at Woodmex
John
Boddy Timber
reports that it made the transition from ASFI to Woodmex with enormous
success. The level and quality of visitors and enquiries was exceptional
according to the John Boddy team members on the stand. The companys
new tropical timber initiative and launch of the new publication all contributed
to a very successful event.
John
Boddy Timber, established in 1935 is one of the UK and Ireland's leading
specialists in the supply of Temperate Hardwoods. With 70 years of experience,
it has developed sources of quality hardwood throughout Britain, Northern
and Eastern Europe and North America. The company's Riverside Sawmill
carries a wide choice of quality hardwoods and softwoods in various formats
from the round log to the rough sawn kiln dried board and through to the
machined profile.
Definitely one of the main talking points at Woodmex was the launch of
the new publication and announcement of a groundbreaking international
initiative into the supply of Certified Tropical Hardwoods. In particular
FSC Central American Mahogany (Swientenia macrophylla) and other lesser
known Certified Tropical Hardwoods. This is an exciting precedent and
details will be contained in The Complete Buyers Guide to Certified Temperate
and Tropical Hardwoods and Softwoods - the 2005 edition.
John Boddy Timber's five point maxim of Quality, Service, Measure, Price
and Certification is strongly adhered to, as is its policy of putting
the customer first no matter what size the order. John Boddy Timber supplies
quality hardwoods for many projects and continues to uphold the highest
standards of quality and value.

GMD-Giardina
Enjoys Remarkable Woodmex
Finishing
specialist GMD-Giardina came away from Woodmex in buoyant mood following
what MD, Gerry Doran described as a remarkable show.
We
were there to discuss with customers the latest trends in finishing application
and curing techniques. It was the joinery sector in particular that we
found showing the most interest as demand for their products are markedly
on the increase
explains Gerry Doran. Italian principals Giardina are at the cutting edge
of this specialisation and Gerry Doran is currently involved in installing
some of the most modern finishing systems into major joinery factories
finishing window frames and doors in particular.
Various solutions are available from GMD including all the pre-finishing
and in-line surface preparation delivered by the companys other
principal, Tagliabue, which specialises in wide belt sanding for finishing
applications.
More and more interest is being shown in one particular aspect of curing
technology acknowledged as the future and that is the new
system of microwave curing. Giardinas patented MOS® system is
already proving successful in a number of prestigious installations across
Europe.
Giardina Laboratory facilities are open for testing on the MOS System
along with other finishing systems.
A major draw card to the stand was the special humidification unit from
ML Systems of Denmark. GMD used this to demonstrate the importance of
immediate humidification control, from the raw wood entering the factory
through to the finishing department. The response to this was amazing
with many visitors realising for the first time that long-standing problems
in their finishing and paint shops could now be solved. Although
our stand was smaller due to the lack of availability of large exhibition
machinery at the time says Gerry Doran, this was undoubtedly
one of the most successful Woodmex shows we've ever had.
