Peter continues: ‘As a growing number of customers are experimenting with new ideas and are being more creative in their choice of kitchen design, choosing a solid surface need no longer be an expensive prospect. Maia blends the installer-friendly characteristics of laminates with very attractive natural granite colours to form a winning worksurface combination addressing emerging trends in the UK kitchen market. Quite simply, Maia is designed for living!’

Maia offers aesthetically pleasing and hygienic non-porous worksurfaces. The surfaces give a luxury finish to the kitchen and are in keeping with a preference for natural and light materials. They can be easily installed with standard woodworking tools and are suitable for all sit-on sinks. PWS Razzle Dazzles with New Composite Stone

Reflecting the trend for greater use of colour in the home, PWS has introduced the vibrant Gobi Crystal Azurite to its successful Second Nature composite stone collection. This bright and funky electric blue worksurface will add impact to any contemporary kitchen scheme. The light-reflective stone chips create a focal point, glistening in the sunlight during the day and under the electric light in the evening. This blue joins a selection of other bold composite stone colours, including the vivid ruby red and cheery sunny yellow.

Comments Philip Eeles, Worksurface Business Manager at PWS, ‘ the beauty of the crystal composite stone palette is that it blends so well with other surfacing materials, especially timber and stainless steel.

This material mix approach allows designers to inject a splash of bold colour and personality into the scheme, without being overpowering. Increasingly consumers have the confidence to experiment with colour in their interiors, resulting in a growing demand for more exciting and expressive colours in the kitchen.

In the two years since the launch of composite stone, PWS has carved a niche in its specialist composite worksurface sector, due to its extensive colour selection, that literally spans the spectrum from unassuming white and beige through to lime green and of course the new electric blue.

So consumers have the option to be pale and interesting, or alternatively give it lots of razzle dazzle! ‘

The Second Nature composite stone range includes 23 colour options, and is part of the extensive collection of worksurfaces at PWS, including a wide selection of timber, granite and stainless steel.

In-toto's New Kitchen Brings Sepia Up to Date

Sepia, an effect normally seen in early photography, is the colour featured on In-toto's latest kitchen (W1-109). This delicate hint of brown is a hard wearing laminate front with vertical bevelled edges finished in a contrasting wild pear effect. The cabinet is wild pear laminate, complementing the front. Full length metal handles offer sophistication usually found only in kitchens costing far more.

This kitchen is photographed with 900mm wide 'Jumbo' bull nosed pull out floor cabinets in aluminium laminate. They are deeper than ever before giving a large capacity for storage. Even the usually forgotten plinth zone can now accommodate drawers, suitable for trays and seldom used pans. In-toto's new plinths are completely waterproof, allowing kitchens to withstand moderate floods.

In-toto's 2005 kitchens are now available from the company's 42 franchised outlets nationwide. Each offers a complete design, supply and installation service to top professional standards backed by comprehensive guarantees and the assurance of KBSA membership.

Design Flexibility with Four New Fascias from Four Seasons

Four Seasons has launched four new fascias together with a selection of accessories and upgraded cabinetry options.

The new designs have been introduced to further increase the design flexibility of the range for retailers and to meet the changing requirements of the UK consumer for more contemporary-classic kitchen furniture in Four Seasons' mid-market sector.

Classic door styles are continuing to increase in popularity and remain so for consumers wanting to update and achieve a timeless look in the kitchen. In response to this, two of the new Four Seasons doors, The Dorchester (right) and The Shaftsbury (below left), feature classic oak and ivory finishes that sit on colour coordinated cabinets.

The Dorchester is a square framed door constructed in solid pippy oak. A shade darker than natural oak, it features detail rails around the square frame and is completed with a delicate patina to the doors. Glass doors and lattice style oak dresser units have been added as options, with a simple pewter D handle recommended as the perfect complement to the solid oak finish.

Finished in ivory, the sophisticated Shaftsbury has an ageless appeal. Paper wrapped and over lacquered, the door has a subtle raised centre panel and features a formal pewter D handle and knob. Lattice style glass doors, dresser units and tongue and groove end panels are available for creating a bespoke look, as are spice drawers and an oversized cornice and pelmet.

According to Four Seasons' research, growth across the overall market is continuing to come from sales of lighter and blond wood kitchens, such as maple and light oak. In the light wood sector, the trend is toward the more minimalist door design and simple styles are currently very strong.

Four Seasons' Denver is a modern maple saponnetta style door, which has super smooth, rounded and veneered edges. The contemporary appeal and clean lines of this design is accentuated by the recommended choice of aluminium bow handles. Coordinating cabinetry is available, as are glass doors in bridging units and deep pan drawers for extra storage space.

The Newhaven is a successful update of the ever popular shaker style door. Finished in fashionable pale oak with an attractive centre panel inlay, this fascia has a paper wrapped finish and is competitively priced. Attractive square handles in chrome have been selected to set-off the shaker style for the finishing touch.
The introduction of the new designs takes the total collection to 19 different doors in total, offering scope for retailers to cater for a variety of different consumer tastes and requirements.

Joni Thrush, Head of Marketing for Four Seasons commented:
'Having conducted in-depth research into identifying the best selling doors for the future, we are confident the new fascias are going to give retailers just what they need to meet customer requirements for the latest looks and finishes.'

Mix and Match Internal Kitchen Organisation

The internal organisation of kitchen and other fitted furniture drawers is fast becoming a major selling point for many manufacturers. With the emphasis now firmly on optimising the use of cabinet storage space, cutlery trays and dividers are becoming design items just as much as practical systems.

A UK specialist in this field is G&G Products of Manchester. The company has established a design and manufacturing base that has seen it close in on 80% of this exclusive market. The reasons are obvious when the product is viewed. The wooden trays are generally machined from laminated beech blocks – although any hardwood can be specified.

But G&G has equal expertise in the area of plastics injection mouldings and vacuum forming. This allows the company to produce special units and containers which combine in standard drawer dimensions with the dedicated beech block utensil trays.

The result is that kitchen designers, manufacturers and retailers have yet another angle of flexibility. For instance drawer interiors can be combined to have special and general units like sized knife racks alongside different sized containers for loose cutlery or other items.

Over the years G&G has turned its hand to every conceivable storage and organisational solution. In doing so the company says that it becomes more innovative with time. Managing Director Sam Grinshpan's maxim of ‘anything is possible’ is made true by the ongoing investment that the company makes in extremely high-tech, computerised design and production equipment.

The ‘mix and match’ concept is just another of many ideas that come to fruition using G&G components.

G&G Products’ designs are included in the products of most leading kitchen and bedroom brands as well as being used by all major drawer system manufacturers both across the UK and abroad. The company has interesting ideas for the home office and commercial sector markets and will work on customised solutions with individual customers. As Sam Grinshpan explains,’ the only restriction on design possibilities is the imagination!’

Space Saving Storage Solutions by Mereway

Mereway produces a range of accessories which can be used to intelligently manage storage in any kitchen, whether the available space is plentiful or restricted.

The soon-to-be-released Sink Base Drawer uses the space which is often lost underneath the sink. The cut-out design in the drawer interior competently houses plumbing and waste disposal systems, increasing the overall storage capacity for ancilliary items such as cleaning materials. Effective organisation can be implemented throughout the kitchen with the use of additional Wide Style Drawers, which can be found in Mereway ranges such as the Linear Collection.

These provide a suitable encasement for various personal storage solutions and accessories, including essential Cutlery and Pan Drawer Management Systems.

The Pull-Out Larder Unit (shown here in the Monza Hi-Gloss White finish) is a design concept which uses ‘SoftStopp’ damping. This technology is fully integrated and completely invisible, for quiet kitchens. By cushioning the closing action of the pull-out, slowing it just before the end position, this ensures even the most heavily stocked unit will gently glide shut. The interior comprises of one fixed shelf and six adjustable wire baskets which are attached to two pull-out doors, enabling easy accessibility and effective storage for large volumes of items.

Mereway also produces an array of aesthetic corner units which fully utilise this often wasted space. The Eclipse Curved Corner Wall Unit and High-Line Curved Mondo Carousel unit are both attractive units which exploit unused corner areas. A hardwood beech chopping board is built into the Carousel system which provides extra functionality.

Wicker Storage baskets provide a ‘rustic’ feel to any kitchen design and are a good way to store vegetables, keeping them fresh by allowing them to ‘breathe’. For a more contemporary look, concealed vegetable basket bases are available in all current Mereway range finishes.

For further information on these and other space-saving kitchen accessories please contact Mereway on 0121 706 7844 or visit http://www.mereway.co.uk

Painted Kitchens give Fresh Look for Spring

'While kitchen trends come and go the clean, timeless appeal of a freshly painted kitchen continues to prove hard to beat. Popular for its classic look and endless colour options, the painted kitchen is set to remain in hot demand in 2005.' says Barnes of Ashburton's founder and designer Patrick Gunning.

'The painted look works particularly well in period properties, which can suffer from dark rooms and low ceilings so are not always suited to darker wood finishes. It is also a look that is easy to change should you tire of a particular colour, which is an important consideration when choosing a kitchen that will potentially last for generations,' explains Patrick.

Some people avoid painted finishes because of fears that they are hard to keep clean, but in reality the opposite is true. Coated in a protective finish, Barnes‚ painted kitchens can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and, should a major accident occur, serious stains can be easily painted over. In fact, a repaint after 10 or so years  - when the general wear and tear of busy family life will take its toll on any kitchen - will give you a kitchen that looks as good as the day it was first installed.

Enjoying more than 20 years experience in the industry, Barnes of Ashburton Ltd makes crafted bespoke furniture, with prices ranging from £10-25,000.
