Poggenpohl Launches its Latest Innovation - PLUSMODO®

Kitchen manufacturer, Poggenpohl, launched its latest innovation, PLUSMODO at IMM Cuisinale 2005 in Cologne, Germany. The result of a year-long collaboration with world-renowned Spanish furniture designer Jorge Pensi, PLUSMODO reflects his desire to create a 'poetic dialogue between display and concealment', by combining the opposing elements of open and closed functional areas.

The PLUSMODO from Poggenpohl
In addition to fully extendable base unit drawers, PLUSMODO features large pullout trays, which are sited below the extra thick (13cm) worktops and extend on hidden runners to add an additional storage element between the base unit and worktop. By simply adding a clear glass top, the trays become display cabinets where china, saucepans and utensils can be presented to great effect.

Concealed, handless drawers are embedded into the worktop itself, which appears to float above the base units. Available in both mineral composite and laminate finishes, the worktops are illuminated by lighting incorporated within the satin glass and aluminium shelving of the wall storage above. Additional lighting behind the satin glass and aluminium splash back, combines with the overhead light to provide optimal illumination for food preparation areas. The splash back also houses hanging rails for utensils, light switches, timers, speakers, a radio, and above the hob, a concealed extractor that draws steam and odours through a small horizontal top vent.

Wall units above the worktop use sliding doors to create a flexible storage and display space, and are available with an enclosed or open end. Tall-unit blocks also feature sliding doors and incorporate illuminated satinised glass shelving to create both atmosphere and light. Why hide beautifully designed everyday objects when, with clever up-lighting, they can be transformed into glittering works of art? The doors, as with the worktops, are constructed using a new honeycomb core, which, despite its light weight, is extremely rigid.

PLUSMODO is available in Mineral White, Titanium Grey and a new colour in the satin lacquer range, Aqua Blue, which will be available from next year. For those with a preference for wood, there is also an attractive Elm veneer. Traditionally used in high quality furniture manufacture for dining and living areas, Poggenpohl has pioneered the use of Elm in the kitchen to achieve stunning results. The use of lacquers, wood, glass and metal allows huge scope for custom design of fronts and surfaces, to create a memorable kitchen.

Commenting on his affiliation with Poggenpohl, Pensi said: ‘In developing PLUSMODO we wanted to introduce elements that had yet to be incorporated into kitchen design. This led to the exploration of light, sliding doors, open trays and the concept of co-existing and flexible concealment and display components.’

Martin Gill, MD for Poggenpohl UK, believes the new design will be well received: ‘Early indications from visitors to our stand at IMM Cuisinale indicate that PLUSMODO will be prove very popular in the UK and Europe as a whole. It's an extremely practical concept with exceptional styling so will appeal greatly to the design-conscious homeowner who seeks a successful combination of form and function.’

Kitchen Group Upgrades Prima with Stylish New Collection

The Prima Kitchen Collection has been upgraded by its parent, The Kitchen Group, to bring an enhanced level of style and sophistication to the existing range. The result is a new carcase system and three new kitchens – the first of which is the ‘Madison’.

A shaker-style, beech effect door, the new Madison kitchen offers an authentic yet clean look and is complemented with a streamlined aluminium ‘D’ handle. The classic shaker design is a favourite amongst consumers and is a welcome addition to the Prima Collection.

The Madison’s appeal is further boosted with the addition of a Red Granite Gloss worktop, also shown as a gloss splashback, adding a warm and contemporary feel – which would work well in any showroom display. The Madison is also combined with cool, frosted glass dresser units, providing the latest looks for modern living.

The Kitchen Group’s Universal Accessories range provides the finishing touch to the new Prima kitchen. Teamed with effective lighting, such as the chrome, triangular ‘Delta’ under wall light, as well as metallic extra’s such as the 150mm, stainless steel vertical wire tray unit – as featured around a stainless steel oven – provide a striking effect for the Madison kitchen.

‘Stockists should not forget all the extra’s that give a kitchen individuality’. explained Sally Hough of The Kitchen Group, ‘From innovative lighting to practical shelving and hidden storage systems - such additions not only enhance the kitchen and its showroom appeal, but add that extra margin to the final sale.’

The Madison is a striking, value-for-money kitchen which would sit well in any kitchen showroom. Crème de la Crème from PWS

PWS’ new Gullwing Vanilla range blends a simple style with a soft cream finish, creating the essential elements of light and space. Classic cream is given a modern design twist, resulting in a relaxing interior. The simplicity of the door style enhances the sense of calm providing the key to easy-living elegance.

The scheme is complemented with light oak accessories, including chunky 50mm end panels, which add definition and interest. A dramatic contrast is achieved by introducing rich walnut or wenge worksurfaces as the pale cream enhances the depth and richness of the timber, evoking a warm and luxurious feel.

Comments Andrew Langford, Marketing Manager at PWS, ‘cream is a key trend colour, which is gradually becoming one of the top choices for both modern and classic kitchens. This colour preference is predicted to grow on the contemporary design front as cream is seen as the perfect backdrop for other materials and colours, for either a co-ordinated or contrasting scheme’.

The vanilla range joins the other three options in PWS’ Gullwing family, namely oak, maple and calvados, and can be successfully combined with any of these three finishes to create feature areas.
