Set your Imagination Free with Libero - ALNO Launches New Design Features for 2005

The new Libero range offers ALNO kitchen specialists the opportunity to incorporate new high quality cabinets into their kitchen planning. These cabinets blend glass, light, colour and shape to break free from the traditional confines of kitchen design.

ALNO Marketing Manager Anne-Marie Reed says, ‘The trend for open plan kitchen and dining areas is increasing in popularity with homebuyers. ALNO has therefore created design features to link the two areas and provide a real talking point. Any Libero product makes a creative statement and proves that kitchen furniture does not have to stand in one neat row. Libero units are also are streets ahead of the competition in terms of storage space and are all built with ALNO's renowned precision design.’

There are five distinct elements to the Libero range of units, which can be combined with any kitchen in the ALNO range:

Libero zoom - Free-standing or wall mounted, these glass panelled, roll-front units draw attention to well-lit contents.

Libero window - These tall cabinets offer space and display potential. The adjustable glass shelves sit behind the fully glazed door in the protruding front part of the unit. This display door can be swung open to reveal a vast amount of hidden storage space.

Libero corner - ALNO's elaborately designed corner cabinets use glass and fibre optic lights to define the end of a run of units. Both base and wall options are available and the home owner can set the lighting colour to suit his or her mood or programme the fibre optics to run through a colour show.

Libero jumbo - Standing proud of the traditional line of kitchen units, nothing beats these high gloss base units for storage. Two styles are available, one with square and one with rounded corners. A variety of colour options is available for each style.

Libero tower - The corner wall unit features a full height convex transparent acrylic door with integrated handle and stainless steel coloured side strips. Inside the illuminated, five shelf carousel there is easy access to a large storage area.

SieMatic 66 Expands Handleless Kitchen Options

SieMatic says that it literally changed the face of kitchen design in 1960 when it launched the world’s first handleless kitchen – the SieMatic 6006. Much copied but still a SieMatic best seller after 44 years, the popularity of SieMatic’s 6006 handless look shows no sign of abating, and in order to capitalise on the current strong consumer appeal of the handleless kitchen, the company has added a new range of handleless doors to its kitchen range, but whereas the 6006 door is contoured to lend it a ‘retro look’, the new ‘66’ range of doors is totally flat and offers far more choice when it comes to colours, finishes and available price points.

SieMatic’s new 66 doors span from the company’s Price Group 3 to Price Group 7, making ownership eminently affordable (the existing 6006 sits in Price Group 6). The basic 66K door (PG3) features a directly applied laminate and is offered in 22 textured colours and wood effects. The range then climbs through various gloss and matt finishes, climaxing with the 66H range of six veneer sealed matt lacquers including champagne maple, light oak, amber maple, cherry wood, chestnut brown and walnut.

SieMatic UK Ltd Managing Director Bernard Otulakowski says ‘The 66 range will appeal to homeowners and developers looking for a modern look that is simultaneously a ‘classic’ rather than being futuristic. The success of our 6006 has spawned the 66 which emphasises linear lines and combines these with SieMatic’s legendary engineering excellence at a surprisingly affordable price’.

PWS Swings into Action with more Smart Storage

Building on the burgeoning popularity of clever storage solutions, PWS has launched a swing larder pull-out. The larder not only smoothly glides out, but with a gentle pull will swing left or right. This reveals the contents of the larder at your fingertips, with effortless access.

The 300mm wide unit features high-specification accessories, including anti-slip arena shelves to prevent items from falling over or sliding around. Meanwhile, the soft-stop closing device ensures the unit closes quietly and without any jolting. The unit is supplied with 5 shelves, and has a maximum loading capacity of 70kg and internal height of 1800-2000mm.

Comments Andrew Langford, Marketing Manager at PWS, ‘ The swing larder is modern functionality at its best and is the natural step to evolve the standard larder pull-out. This clever unit maximises space, ensuring almost every inch is utilised and easily accessed. With storage often being at a premium in kitchens today, our Design Team are actively focusing on this important product area. Their challenge is to offer intelligent yet good-looking solutions to make even more of the often limited space available’.

A Stylish New Twist the Natural Way – Solid Beech Block for Modern Living

Orama, the independent manufacturer of worksurfaces and associated decorative products, has captured the innate beauty and homely warmth of beech and adapted it to a modern setting. The traditional quality, durability and strength of pure wood is no longer confined to a countryside, farmhouse or rustic kitchen.

When harmoniously coordinated with carefully selected furniture, a solid beech worksurface can rely on its confident versatility and simplicity to create a retro, modern or contemporary look.

Responding to the ever increasing appeal of solid natural materials in interior and kitchen design, Orama has included a 38mm solid beech block worksurface in its Ardesco collection of kitchen worksurfaces. The sharp clean-cut linearity of real wood gives it a contemporary edge, while the nobility and integrity of the material brings depth and durability. Combining the worksurface with simple modern furniture allows the wood’s elemental attractiveness to take centre stage without losing its inert practicality and functionality.

Orama’s Ardesco solid beech worksurface option opens up new opportunities to blend materials and worksurface depths by overlaying or creating distinct workstations, dining and cook areas in the kitchen. Its enduring charm means that beech looks equally striking in a loft conversion providing a touch of warmth and beauty transcending generations, as it does in a cosy cottage. When complementing natural kitchen furniture, the beech block worksurface achieves complete homogeneity with the décor, whereby both units and worksurface fuse to become one. Both entities are so intrinsically integrated that they leave a lasting impression of being a completely uniform piece of furniture.

Peter Holt, sales and marketing director, Orama, comments: ‘Our Ardesco range of kitchen worksurfaces has been carefully crafted to include only the most exclusive designs and colours. The Ardesco offer encapsulates kitchen retailers’ requirements in one package, including laminates, solid surfaces and wood surfaces in a number of thicknesses. Our designers recognise the perennial quality of wood. Natural wood is a timeless favourite that never looses appeal. It is such a trusted material that it can blend with almost any design and endures despite the constant changes in tastes and fashion.’

Orama offers high quality durable decorative panels and worksurfaces. Established for many years, Orama holds ISO 9001 certification and the Furniture Industry Research Association Gold Award for product performance. The company is also a corporate member of the KBSA (Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialist Association). All Orama’s chipboard and solid timber products are sourced from ‘responsibly managed’ forests.

Pfleiderer makes Zebrano Easy

Pfleiderer Industrie has introduced a Zebrano decor into its Wodego high pressure laminate range. The fine dark stripe set on a light gold background meets today's trend toward natural contrasts. Pfleiderer says that its Zebrano is a more practical solution than using the real wood because Zebrano, commonly called Zebra wood in Britain because of its appearance, is difficult to work.

The wood is usually veneered but is expensive to process as it has to be quarter cut and sliced to avoid buckling. The veneer needs careful glueing and then clear filling before polishing. As a result its use has been limited to decorative banding.
Now, with Pfleiderer's HPL décor, it is suitable for horizontal and vertical surfaces in furniture and interior design. The surface texture is 'top velvet' giving a durabie semi-matt sheen. Matching MFC is available, giving a co-ordinated sheet material range.

Standard size sheets are 4100 x 1300 x 0.8mm post forming grade with 3050 x 1300mm and other thicknesses and dimensions available to order.

Sierra Beech by Mereway

In response to the success of Sierra Natural Maple, Mereway has further extended this range with the addition of new Sierra Beech.

Honeyed tones of Sierra Beech are conveyed through classically flat, square panel doors with a wide solid frame, appropriate for use in both traditional and contemporary kitchen designs. A decorative screen glass door has also been produced to provide a contrast to the solid door.

The care taken during the research and development stages of production for Sierra Beech has enabled Mereway to create a good colour match with the carcass. Alternatively, an aluminium carcass can be used to create acontrast to warm wood tones.

Sierra Beech is available in new wide drawer fronts and 455mm high vertical lift units, and can be augmented with Mereway’s comprehensive range of accessories. A selection of handles accompanies this range, including Pewter Shell, Aluminium Bridge and Stainless Steel T Bar handles.

Make it Modern with PWS’ Cragside

In tune with the tireless demand for minimal and modern styling, PWS has responded with Cragside. This flat slab door in a warm birch finish is a highly versatile design, as it offers a suitable canvas on which to combine other materials, colours and shapes.

However, not only does Cragside look striking, it feels good too, with its slightly textured surface adding a naturally tactile element to the furniture. This is achieved through new pvc technology, resulting in a door that both looks and feels like the real thing. A mark of Cragside’s appeal is that although it is perfectly on cue for the popular minimal look, the warm birch tones and tactile quality of the door ensure the kitchen is welcoming and easy to live with.

Keeping with the natural theme, tones of cream, caramel and brown create a centrepiece in the granite worksurface. A tall bank of larder doors makes an imposing yet impressive feature, adding a chic feel. The clean lines can be softened with the introduction of gently contoured stainless steel larders and a shaped base unit. A wide range of accessories is available to create an individual look.

Width matters!

'So what's a few millimetres here and there?’ asks kitchen furniture manufacturer Stoneham. ‘Well, if it's on each side of every internal drawer or pull-out in your kitchen then add it all up and it could easily equate to having another full drawer full of storage or more!’ Which is why Stoneham has implemented a new innovation in many of the company’s designs.

Stoneham works closely with its fittings partner, Blum, to offer ultimate performance and function in the interiors of their kitchens. The latest product is a ‘zero-protrusion hinge’.

What it actually means is that Stoneham can now include full-extension pull-outs behind door-fronted cabinets that can use the full cabinet width and therefore adapt to standard widths for internal divisional and organisational systems. This is because the new hinge totally clears the access area when the door is opened, unlike conventional door hinges which overhang the cabinet internal edge so that the drawer width is compromised.

Previous to the zero-protrusion hinge, Stoneham would have to go through a laborious production process of fitting artificial spacers to mount slightly more narrow, unconventional drawers to the interiors.

Now Stoneham customers benefit from standard width drawers in base units and larders as well as actually achieving significant additional space over the individual kitchen design.

With 140 years of history and experience behind it, a Royal Warrant and still a fully family managed company, Stoneham says that it continues to innovate for its customers.

Maximise the Potential of Island Living

Recognising the need for island units that are functional as well as attractive, bespoke furniture makers Barnes of Ashburton, maximises the potential of its island units by incorporating as much storage and appliances as possible. 'Many people like the design benefits and extra worksurface that an island unit provides, but don't actually realise their full potential,' explains Barnes‚ founder and head designer Patrick Gunning. 'For example, we can incorporate built-in appliances, such as dishwashers, fridges and even a wine cooler, as well as the hob, sink and waste disposal unit.'

In terms of planning, the island unit is also perfectly positioned to make the most of the popular 'working triangle' configuration, whereby the fridge, sink and hob are placed in a triangle formation to reduce traffic flow to a minimum. 'If you use the island unit to host one or more of these key elements - the sink or hob for example - you can drastically cut down on the distance the chef has to travel when cooking, making life much easier and keeping everything close to hand,' Patrick adds. 'If you want to make the most of your island by creating a dining area at one end, the height of your unit should be increased by 40mm to ensure comfortable seating on tall stools.'

Starlight Door Furniture Range, New from Häfele (UK) Ltd

Häfele UK has launched its new new contemporary range of lever handles. The new Starlight range of door furniture introduces modern styles of lever handles on round rose and is available exclusively to the UK only through Häfele UK. The company has also launced a free glossy colour catalogue showcasing the entire rang.

The Starlight range offers:

Easy to fit sprung loaded cartridge round rose system called Eurofix.
This fixing method employs the patented Eurofix mounting system. The Eurofix cartridge incorporates a return spring pre-mounted into the rose; advantages are that the installation is easier and quicker than conventional methods of mounting the lever handle, and that roses need not

Styles of lever handle in stainless steel, brass and also a PVD brass version.
The PVD or 'Physical Vapour Deposition' Zirconium process uses state of the art technology to achieve a durable, corrosion resistant finish. The PVD levers carry a 25-year lustre guarantee and are available not only in a polished brass version, but also satin nickel. There are 11 contemporary styles to choose from. The range also extends to matching accessories as you would expect for the full specification - namely key rose escutcheons, both in Euro Profile and standard keyway variants, WC emergency release sets, and blind roses.
