Natural Extension to Burbidge’s Top Country Kitchen Design

Following the success of its top-selling Arundel Character Oak kitchen, Burbidge has extended the Arundel range with the introduction of a more rustic Natural Oak version.

A quintessentially English style kitchen, made from a character English wood, Arundel Natural Oak is a good choice for consumers that want traditional design in a natural wood finish, and without fussy detailing.

The beautifully crafted doors and drawers have wide solid oak frames with panels made from estate hewn pippy oak – an exclusive wood that’s proving popular at the top end of the market, and currently a particular favourite with designers for its desirable patterning, variation and texture. An extensive range of pippy oak accessories has also been developed by Burbidge to accompany this range so that, while the frontals are simple in style, the creative use of accessories can make an Arundel kitchen as simple or as decorative as required.

Wide mullioned glass doors can be used to break up a run of solid oak doors, while extra thick gun barrel pilasters add further interest. In keeping with the period style that Arundel promotes, freestanding dressers and counter top display units can be created with large pilasters and end panels, while special decorative mantels and corbels are also available for the creation of attractive storage space over range cookers. Other pippy oak accessories available to the kitchen designer include a cornice, extractor canopy, light pelmet and open units with spice drawers, and for the finishing touch, there are two simple handles in a muted pewter finish.

Ben Burbidge, managing director, comments: ‘Although it is our most expensive kitchen, Arundel Character Oak is currently one of our top selling designs, so it was a natural step to extend this range. However, the key to the success of this range is the style and the pippy oak wood combined. As such we felt it was necessary to change the finish, rather than the type of wood, to target those consumers who like English country house style, but prefer a more natural, matt finish of wood. So while we’ve kept the design and the wood the same, the less patined finish gives the Natural Oak kitchen a lighter, fresher look – a country appearance rather than the baronial style of the Character Oak option.’

Warm and Welcoming Havana Birch from PWS

Reflecting the ongoing trend for warm and mellow timber in the kitchen, PWS has introduced Havana Birch. The prominent design feature is its chunky, wide frame, but the overall effect it achieves is streamlined and chic. The theme here is a simple one but it is this simplicity that gives this kitchen design appeal as it is equally at home in either a modern or classic interior.

The birch finish introduces warmth and character yet the styling also suits the functionality of stainless steel accessories, splashbacks and clean cut surfaces.

Features with this range include screen glazed doors in a range of size options and radius feature ends. Alternatively aluminium framed glazed doors, which are great for storing and displaying crockery, combine beautifully with the birch finish. For a more traditional feel Havana Birch can be accessorised with materials such as pewter and granite.

The Havana design is also available in a light oak finish and both ranges have achieved FIRA Gold Award, bringing the total of PWS doors with Gold status to forty three.

Handleless Kitchens Combine Style and Quality

Keller’s Black Label collection is a new concept in handleless kitchens that is being launched into the UK marketplace to meet the demand for a highly contemporary look that combines style with outstanding quality and remarkable versatility.

The upmarket Black Label collection stands apart from Keller’s established range – now to be branded as the Red Label collection - and it is defined by the fact that all the kitchens within it are handleless. The concept allows designers to create the crisp, uncluttered look which has been popular in Europe for some time. It is backed by an extensive range of units so allows the creation of highly individual and virtually bespoke concepts that have long been a familiar Keller feature.

Within the Black Label collection are four price groups. At the lower end of the scale, the GL2000 is a matt finish, melamine door available in 19 colours. The GL3000 is a post form door in four colours while the GL4000 is a high gloss finish door in seven colours. At the top of the range, the GL5000 offers a veneered MDF door in six real wood finishes.

Loes Jongeneelen, Keller’s Marketing Manager, comments: ‘The time is right to provide kitchen designers in the UK with Keller’s new stunning, modern handleless concept. This handleless range of kitchens is being launched as the Black Label collection, a name which has been chosen to portray the upmarket image of the product, with its exclusive look and feel.’

Burbidge Creates Curve Appeal in the Kitchen

With its urban chic design, the new Zamora kitchen from Burbidge demonstrates just how versatile the Shaker style can be. While the door and drawer fronts are shaker-inspired, with wide frames and minimal detailing, the overall appearance of the Zamora kitchen is highly contemporary owing to its white colour and innovative accessories.

Rounded pilasters, cornice and pelmets create a modular, curved kitchen that’s ultra modern and clean-lined, while highly distinctive metallic glazed doors are an eyecatching feature. Not only aesthetically appealing, the glazed doors, from Burbidge’s Al-Tec range of aluminium accessories, are also practical from a design point of view. The reflective properties of the glass means that they can be incorporated into a Zamora design to maximise the sense of space and light in the kitchen.

Ben Burbidge, managing director says: ‘With white making a resurgence, particularly within the contemporary kitchens market, we felt it was time to give our customers a bold new design with which to respond to this demand. As always we like to ensure our kitchens offer something unique to the consumer and as much creative scope as possible for kitchen designers, hence the introduction of curved accessories and a metallic glazed door.’

As with all Burbidge kitchens, the Zamora doors and drawer fronts are available in a broad range of sizes and with a choice of colour-matched accessories. A bold matt chrome bridge handle, which is available in two sizes, is the ideal accompaniment to the white frontals as it further enhances the streamlined appearance of the kitchen.

Prima Upgrades from the Inside Out

In addition to three new kitchen designs, Prima, The Kitchen Group’s value kitchen brand, has enhanced its collection yet further with the option of a new carcase system, with a higher specification for an overall improved level of quality.

‘Maintaining its value for money, the new Prima carcase system increases the versatility of the kitchen collection, offering stockists additional selling points and a new competitive advantage.’ says the company.

Now offering the same drilling and size specification as the standard Kitchen Group carcase, Prima doors can now be upgraded by using an 18mm coordinating carcase.

As for the standard carcase system, that’s been enhanced too. On the looks front, a new ‘grey’ edge has been introduced, reducing the contrast between the white carcase and the door as it blends better with any fascia. In addition, new metal/plastic shelf pegs replace the existing all plastic ones to give a higher specification.

For improved accessibility and ease of fit, new clip-on metal hinges have been introduced, plus, rigidity is enhanced with new Cam & Push-in Pin fittings - also good for faster and easier assembly.More changes include a decreased wall cabinet height to minimise any visible edging, plus an increased cabinet depth (320mm) to now accommodate up to a 10-inch dinner plate. And overall carcase strength is improved with a wider front rail, a new back rail position and a larger back panel with screw fixing.

‘Such enhancements and attention to detail with the new Prima carcase, have already been warmly welcomed by our stockists, who know their customers appreciate a higher specification of fixtures and fittings – even on a value range. The consumer is simply more ‘gemmed-up’ and confident these days, seeking out better products with a higher standard of workmanship,’ commented Sally Hough, Kitchen Group marketing manager.

Walnut Whirl

'Dark wood finishes such as wenge, dark oak and walnut are remaining strong in the kitchen market and Keller's dramatic Elba kitchen is proving especially successful thanks to its competitive pricing.' says the company.

The reason behind the Dutch company's ability to produce designer style kitchens like Elba without compromising on build quality can be found in its 'just-in-time' manufacturing capabilities. Not only does this method allow Keller to quickly anticipate trends, but, without the cost of buying and storing excessive amounts of timber and materials, the company can pass on the savings to its clients.

Looking at the design elements of Elba, Keller's designers have paid a great deal of attention to detail with features such as Alu-look edging on the doors and an en-vogue mix of vertical and horizontal grains. The Walnut finish (pictured) demonstrates its ability to coordinate with the latest metallic appliances and glass worktops for a designer kitchen.

Alternative dark grains available include bronze and dark cherry, the latter of which can also be specified with Alu-look edging. A softer look can be achieved using light wood-look finishes such as soft beech and white oak. In addition, the lightly grained Vanilla and Jasmine melamine finishes, can be ordered with a multiplex striped edging.

Further enhancing the design possibilities available in this range is the extensive selection of base unit sizes - from 300mm-1200mm-wide - while wide-pan drawers are available up to 1200mm wide for a contemporary look. There is also a choice of four glass doors for wall units, all with frosted or ornamental glass.

Each rigid unit is designed to simply fit together and fix in place, while each joint is glued. Keller Kitchens is currently searching for new retailers in locations throughout the UK and offers area exclusivity and great display deals as well as hassle-free ordering, delivery and dealer support.

Inspiration from Nature with PWS’ New Granite Colours

PWS’ Second Nature granite collection has been enhanced with six new finishes.
Drawing inspiration from nature, the new additions to the worksurface palette reflect a move towards earthy and neutral colours, brining granite firmly into the fashion focus.

Hues of brown, russet and grey set the tone for the new options, and although colours normally associated with rustic or classic schemes, they also fit neatly with more contemporary styling. PWS’ new minimally styled Cragside door range for instance, demonstrates how the earthy tones of Shivakashy granite effortlessly become modern and chic, looking particularly effective when combined with other materials such as timber and stainless steel.

The Second Nature granite collection now includes 41 options, embracing a wide choice of colour combinations across the spectrum. Comments Philip Eeles, PWS’ worksurfaces business manager, ‘Our continuous research and development programme closely examines colour trends and we know it is essential to keep the collection fresh.

The new granite finishes reflect the growing popularity of natural colours in the kitchen that are not only easy on the eye and easy to live with but suit both classic and contemporary design’.
