The Gallery Whips up a Storm with new Walnut Kitchen

The Gallery kitchen collection has introduced Miami Walnut and predicts that walnut will be an important trend in kitchen design, adding a new dimension to the designer's palette of timber colours.

Launched this month, Miami Walnut gives a new look to the popular Miami saponetta family, with an unusual soft walnut effect that reproduces the timber's distinctive fluid grain patterns, adding subtle interest to the clean simple lines of the design. New matching walnut effect cabinets create a co-ordinated look that works well teamed with contemporary lip handles in matt nickel.

Also new to The Gallery kitchen collection is Philadelphia, a classic Shaker style, with clean, contemporary lines in solid birch. The blonde timber creates a light and airy Scandinavian feel and complements modern stainless steel appliances and feature units.

As with many Gallery kitchens, Miami and Philadelphia can be used to create a classic or contemporary look. Both offer a wide choice of design features and accessories, enabling designers to optimise the use of space available and create kitchens to suit all needs and tastes.

Available through a wide network of selected retailers, The Gallery is a comprehensive collection of fitted kitchen styles from Symphony, the UK's largest privately owned manufacturer of fitted furniture. The company has more than 30 years experience and works closely with retailers, developers and homebuyers to design and build great fitted furniture.

Come Back to Colour with the New ZX Granite Sink Range

With the growing resurgence of colour and texture within the home, Carron Phoenix says that its new ZX range of granite sinks brings visual warmth and tactile sensuality to the kitchen workspace.

ZX is aimed at repositioning Carron’s classic material in the mid to upper end of the market. To complement ZX, Carron Phoenix has also introduced the Zinia tap which is available in chrome, brushed stainless steel or the five matching granite finishes for a completely co-ordinated look. The sweeping curves of the tap body, coupled with the ergonomic features of the directionable spout and joystick lever make it a suitablel design addition the ZX workspace.

The ZX range comes in five colours, some are enriched with fine metallic particles giving a subtle pearlescent sheen for a contemporary twist. The five colours are Graphite, Platinum, Cobalt, Polar White and Champagne.

ZX is available in two model sizes: the ZX100 single bowl and the ZX150 one and a half bowl which are suitable for a minimum cabinet size of 600mm and 700mm respectively. New Mediterino™ Suite of Cabinetry from Canac

Evoking the comfort and craftsmanship of a traditional Old World Italian kitchen, the new Mediterino™ Suite of cabinetry by Canac, a manufacturer of fine cabinetry since 1967, brings an old world appeal into today's homes. Suitable for any part of the home where family and friends gather, these European oak styles create settings, which are functional, handsome and inviting.

This new styling focuses on the natural appeal of its exotic, knotty wood and all the variations and personality it brings to the finished product. The natural look creates a distinctive feel for today’s rustic, but upscale kitchens. The cabinetry uses clean, unadorned lines and displays a classic European sophistication in the small details, such as the old-fashioned drawer pulls. A light stain gives this wood an aged appeal while allowing its charm and character to shine through. These cabinets are designed to look more like well-kept heirloom furniture than custom-built cabinetry, and the finished look is one that comes straight out of an Italian country villa.

'The new Mediterino Suite is really inspired by the inviting feeling of Old World Italian family homes,' said Dianna Holmes, Canac’s design manager. 'These pieces create a welcoming setting where people want to congregate.'

Like all Canac cabinetry, customers can create a setting that is personally their own through the addition of hardware and custom designed accessories. Crafted in Italy, the Mediterino Suite is part of Canac’s upscale Cellini line of cabinetry.

Canac cabinetry is specified not only for kitchens, laundry areas and bathrooms, but also for bedroom built-ins, library, bar, and entertainment units. All Canac cabinets meet or exceed the recommended minimum construction and performance standards for kitchen cabinets as outlined by the Kitchen Cabinets Manufacturers Association (KCMA).

Canac is available through an extensive network of exclusive corporate and associate dealer showrooms across the United States, Canada, and internationally.

Canac is a subsidiary of Kohler Co. Founded in 1873 and headquartered in Kohler, Wis., Kohler Co. is a specialist in products for the kitchen and bath, and one of the oldest and largest privately held companies in the United States.

Orama Launches New Cast Composite Worksurface

Orama, the independent manufacturer of worksurfaces and associated decorative products, has developed Ophelia, a new and versatile solid worksurface. Ophelia is a cast composite that can be arranged in any shape, cut to requirements or modelled into different combinations, thereby allowing the worksurface to adapt to a variety of configurations and environments. It is the first product to have been conceptualised and produced in Orama’s recently launched Advanced Surfaces Centre and has been engineered to marry contemporary design with enhanced performance.

Ophelia offers a cost-effective surface solution combining resistance and flexibility with a modern designer granite matt finish. This ensures that it retains an overall natural look and feel coupled with a touch of modernity. The surface is therefore a suitable alternative without compromising on pleasing aesthetics, functionality and durability.

Ophelia comprises specialist materials that have been chemically linked into one structure. These are, in turn, bonded onto a sealed moisture resistant board so that the surface can be easily installed and fastened into place. Not only is this new worksurface stain-resistant, but it also displays virtually inconspicuous joints.

Ophelia is easy to install and is particularly suited to environments where the hazards of moisture and heavy wear may be of concern. The smooth matt surface is simple to clean and maintain so long as basic simple wear and tear precautions are followed. Superficial scratches can be removed with a buffing pad. In addition, Ophelia is heat resistant up to 185ºC.

Peter Holt, sales and marketing director, Orama, comments: ‘Ophelia is testament to our focus on new product development. We are once again demonstrating that we are in tune with our market by providing end users with the most up to date customisable and fully functional worksurface solutions. Ophelia combines the latest in surface design and can be readily formed into a number of shapes.’

Orama offers quality durable decorative panels and worksurfaces. Established for many years, Orama holds ISO 9001 certification and the Furniture Industry Research Association Gold Award for product performance. The company is also a corporate member of the KBSA (Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialist Association). All Orama’s chipboard and solid timber products are sourced from 'responsibly managed' forests.

Franke's Largo - A Sink with a Difference

The Largo is the latest in a line of products from Franke UK which the company says are changing the way sinks are used in the kitchen.

The new Largo LAX 614 is not only a sink, it is also a food preparation area and has a glass chopping board which slides across the main bowl.

Based on the style of a professional chef's sink, the Largo has a large bowl for an increased working area. Within this is a smaller, stainless steel strainer bowl which slides to any position within the main bowl. The Largo also has a recessed drainer which has its own large waste outlet.

Built into the tap ledge is a holder for general kitchen utensils. Available separately is a set of three knives for meat, fish and vegetables which comes in a wooden block. This complete package slots neatly into the Largo's utensil holder.

Another advantage of the Largo is that, although it is a larger bowl than most conventional sinks, it conveniently fits into a 600mm cabinet.

John Swain, product manager of Franke UK, said: ‘One of the reasons we developed the Largo was to reflect the nation's passion for cooking. Many people who cook at home have a very high level of culinary expertise and the Largo allows them to benefit from using equipment which will enable them to demonstrate their talents to the full.

‘Its clever design includes a large bowl but it still fits into conventionally-sized kitchen cabinets.’

Material Mix from PWS

With a menu of timber, composite stone, granite and stainless steel, the surfacing solutions offered at PWS create endless combinations to mix materials, embracing adventurous designs, whilst creating a contrast between material and colour, and also differentiating work areas. The design ethic of material mix is being used to great effect in many kitchen interiors. In particular the PWS composite stone range presents an array of colours in bright mirrored effects or subtle sand tones to make a statement in the kitchen, whilst blending with other materials such as timber or stainless steel.

The selection of timber species at PWS spans from the lighter tone of maple through to the deep warmth of walnut. Responding to the trend towards blonde woodgrains, ash and birch have recently been introduced. The PWS timber range includes ten varieties, with four also available in the full stave option.

Perfecting Motion with Blumotion

According to the initiators at Julius Blum, manufacturer of fittings in Austria, a new word has been added to furniture industry terminology: Blumotion. ‘Blum's corporate performance goes hand in hand with 'motion', a term that stands for movement on an international scale, and 'emotion' which is evoked through the use of the fitting. All together they mean added value that users can truly experience.’

The principle of the perfect movement of drawers, pull-outs and doors is being applied particularly in kitchens but to a growing extent also in furniture throughout the home. All versions of the innovation were omnipresent at Eurocucina.

Blumotion was shown in drawers and pull-outs and in the interplay with Clip doors. As a consequence, value is added to wall cabinets: even doors that are closed with force are brought to a gentle halt. Thanks to the new system, they close gently and quietly. The braking effect is 'adaptive' - that means it always adapts to the force and speed of the closing action in hand. As a result, doors, drawers and pull-outs silently glide to - without knocking or bouncing back.

The construction of the carcase does not have to be changed to accommodate the system. If the elements are not incorporated in the carcase sides, Blumotion can be fitted with an adapter. To this end, Blum presented a wide range of mounting solutions in metal and plastic.

New Classic Country from Burbidge

Following the success of its top end Arundel Pippy Oak kitchen, Burbidge has introduced Amberley, a foil wrapped design that makes the Pippy Oak finish more widely accessible.

Amberley Pippy Oak is a combination of the most traditional of English woods with sophisticated foil printing techniques of today. The result is a classic ‘rustic country’ style kitchen for the mid market, one that replicates the appearance of English Pippy Oak wood with its beautiful graining and warm colour.

The Pippy Oak frontals, which have a raised centre panel in a gently arched design are complemented beautifully by glass doors that feature russet and gold stained glass detailing. Also available is a wide range of matching Pippy Oak accessories including turned pilasters, extractor canopies, wine rack fascia and cornice as well as a selection of ‘rustic country’ metal handles to complete the look.

Ben Burbidge, Managing Director comments: ‘Our Arundel Pippy Oak wood design has received tremendous interest from consumers, but as it is priced at the top end of the market it is very exclusive. As such, we felt it would be appropriate to respond to this interest by developing a more affordable Pippy Oak kitchen option, hence the introduction of our new Amberley Pippy Oak.’

Verity™ Sinks Combine the Durability and Urban Appeal of Stainless Steel with the Charm of Old-Fashioned Apron-Front Sinks

The farmhouse kitchen sink has been a staple in homes since its development in the late 1800s. The popularity in recent years of granite, marble and other solid surface countertops has generated more appeal for undercounter sinks, especially those that show off a beautiful, integral apron front. Kohler Co., a specialist in kitchen and bath design, has introduced Verity kitchen sinks that provide consumers with the timeless charm of an apron-front sink in the sleek, minimalist style of stainless steel.

'The new Verity apron-front kitchen sinks join a growing collection of Kohler Stainless Steel sinks that offer consumers the opportunity to make a distinct design statement in their kitchen,' said Andy Barber, marketing director of kitchen products at Kohler.

Verity apron-front stainless steel kitchen sinks are offered in two designs: a traditional under mount with an exposed apron-front or a countertop model with a four-sided, exposed apron. Both sinks improve upon the functionality of a traditional apron-front kitchen sink with a thin, 1/2-inch wide front wall that allows consumers to get closer to the basin making it easier to wash dishes or prepare food within the sink. Additionally, Verity sinks are crafted of highly durable stain- and corrosion-resistant, 18-gauge stainless steel for enduring quality and long-lasting use, and feature the SilentShield™ sound-absorption system that significantly reduces noise and vibration from clanging dishes and silverware.

Bringing a new design and installation option to kitchen, the Verity countertop sink version is suitable for open kitchen designs that are growing in popularity. The four-sided, exposed apron countertop Verity sink is a good choice to install in a kitchen island or peninsula, encouraging consumers to re-evaluate how they use their kitchen sink and the space around it. The Verity countertop kitchen sink measures 33 by 20 inches with a sink edge height of 4 inches.

The more traditional apron-front undermount version of the Verity sink has been designed to provide consumers with a more traditional installation option. The sink features a generous 8-inch apron that gradually curves to reveal 6-inches of the apron along the sides, giving consumers the flexibility to choose how far the apron should be exposed for their needs. The narrow front wall and the absence of a traditional faucet deck along the back edge of the sink creates more useable counterspace. The Verity undercounter apron-front kitchen sink measures 33 by 17 3/8 inches.

Lighter with Light

Miele says that its kitchen design harmonises with open plan design. In this case what is normally stored in wall units is displayed on two shelves with indirect lighting. These surfaces are strong and at the same time serve as design elements for modern, ‘light’ kitchen planning.

The illuminated shelves are suitable for things which are often needed in the kitchen. Crockery and other kitchen accessories appear in a completely new light – the brightness can be adjusted with a dimmer. If required, there is downlighting to illuminate the worktop. Indirect light above and illumination of the workspace below can be used separately. The illuminated shelves are available in various widths, in aluminium or in stainless steel-look.

This Miele kitchen shows new design ideas with modern laminate fronts in sunshine yellow and cherry. An illuminated shelf replaces the usual wall units here. This gives the layout of the kitchen furniture a light and relaxed effect.

Sturdy and easy to clean laminate fronts in a light cherry colour are also a part of this kitchen experience. Features are emphasised by individual fronts in sunshine yellow which are combined with a six centimetre thick worktop made of reconstituted stone. Following professional standards, the cooking area is completely finished in stainless steel.

There is space for heavy, bulky cooking utensils in spacious drawers or in the Magic Corner, a practical corner unit solution. Miele has developed a pedal bin solution to separate recyclable material (underneath the sink) – tapping with the point of your foot makes the waste bin automatically come out together with the kitchen front, cleanly and easily. Pressing lightly with your knee is enough to close it. The lowered cooking area in stainless steel makes ergonomic sense. The five ring gas hob includes a wok burner.

A new Miele cooker hood expels greasy cooking vapours and steam. A special feature is that there is a deflector in the same material as the kitchen fronts – here that means a surface in cherry repro which can be easily wiped clean. On this hood joystick controls are used to turn it on and off and change power levels. Steam cooker, oven, fridge- freezer as well as a fully integrated dishwasher complete the sophisticated range of appliances.

Trade Mouldings Excels with Pippy Oak

Component and door manufacturer Trade Mouldings’ latest design is the twin panel 'Pippy Oak' vinyl door which has been styled as a traditional door evocative of the French genre that created such distinctive cottage and country pieces like the much loved dressers.

Trade Mouldings’ Rod Bairstow says that with such a superb quality of foil they knew they could create the authenticity of a solid door through faithful adaptation of a traditional style. ‘Our unparalleled manufacturing facilities allowed us to create a door design that would give us a level of definition to create absolute authenticity.’

The door is a 7-piece effect with flat panels and additional detail to augment internal frame corners in the traditional style. These sculptured features set this design apart.

The company says that practical considerations have ensured that good matches – like Egger’s Winchester Oak board for carcassing - are perfect. Trade Mouldings experimented with the Pippy Oak pattern and colour at the KBB show using prototype designs and came away with enthusiasm so overwhelming as to push forward the release of this door. A full range of complete matching components and accessories are available ex-stock and to rapid lead time orders along with the doors and drawerfronts.

Trade Mouldings’ Rochdale distribution centre has proved a success for mainland customers and will hold full stocks of the Pippy Oak designs as well as the complete Trade Mouldings range. This new door and the Trade Mouldings portfolio are also available from the factory in Cookstown and the Distribution Centre in Dublin.
