Blum Sets the Bar at Interzum with Aventos

Blum has introduced Aventos, its latest fitting for the controlled and effortless opening and closing of top hinged doors on wall mounted high and top cabinets.

While such systems are available generally on the market Blum claims to have surpassed all the existing actions with gravity defying smoothness by using refined kinematics in the mechanism.

Aventos is available for bi-fold doors, up-and-over designs or straightforward high-lift configurations. No matter the size or weight of the door, the power storage" feature of the new lift system requires the lightest of pressure and effort to open or close and the front can be stopped in any position and will remain there. Braking of the action is gentle and controlled due to the integrated Blumotion system and the housing of the mechanism is slim, elegant and streamlined.

From a manufacturers point of view, assembly is fast and easy with 3-dimensional adjustment on single or both bi-fold fronts and a uniform, organised product program on all carcase heights and widths. With production coming on stream now, the Blum Aventos will be fully available soon.

Two New Gloss Looks for The Gallery

The high gloss kitchen trend gets two fresh new looks with the latest additions to The Gallery collection. Maine and Minneapolis are both contemporary slab doors, but with two very different personalities.

Maine's gloss finish in the coolest ice blue has colour appeal. Smooth slab doors are teamed with a metallic effect carcase and slick matte nickel lip handles that complement the sophisticated colouring.

(Left) Maine and (Right) Minneapolis

Minneapolis combines the warmth and interest of walnut effect with a gloss finish to create a kitchen that is polished but welcoming. Chunky brushed steel D handles and a metallic effect carcase complete the look.

The Gallery's Marketing Manager Gary Turnbull comments: 'Gloss finishes are a great choice for modern kitchen interiors and combine beautifully with other textures like metallics, timber and slate. Minneapolis gives timber effect a twist to create a modern and polished look, while the ice blue of the Maine kitchen is particularly effective when the range is used with stainless steel appliances and a palette of blue and grey.'

Burbidge’s Buxton Alabaster puts Country Kitchens in the Frame

Buxton Alabaster, the latest kitchen design to be launched by Burbidge, has been designed to mimic the look of hand-made country-cottage style kitchens. Deliberately designed to replicate the look of a hand-crafted kitchen, the Buxton Alabaster door and drawer fronts feature a detail line around their perimeter that creates an in-frame appearance, while the smooth alabaster colour gives the kitchen a country feel.

‘By developing Buxton Alabaster, we’re effectively providing kitchen retailers and manufacturers with a realistic alternative to a bespoke hand-made kitchen. They can now offer their customers a country-style kitchen that appears hand-made, yet is much easier and cost-effective to install,’ said managing director Ben Burbidge. ‘Since introducing this kitchen we’ve already had a tremendous take up from our customers, in fact Buxton Alabaster is likely to be one of our best sellers this quarter.’

Offering kitchen designers maximum versatility, the Buxton Alabaster frontals are complemented by a wide range of colour matched foil accessories including a tall larder door and a boxed extractor canopy, as well as a gun barrel pilaster, cornice, light pelmet, friezes and an end panel for the creation of open end units. A range of colour matched wooden accessories are also available, most notably a 100mm wide chunky pilaster.

Additionally, solid oak curved worktops can be incorporated into any Buxton Alabaster kitchen design as butchers blocks (as pictured), or to break up a run of same colour worktops, while wrought iron twist door knobs look particularly effective against the alabaster colour of the frontals.

Another distinctive feature of the Buxton Alabaster kitchen is the glazed door, which has a leaded window effect that features tinted grey and red glass in a geometric pattern.

PWS’ New Glass Doors Reflect a Continental Style

The new range of glass doors from PWS reflects more than a touch of continental styling. The sharp look of these glazed fascias will add a contemporary edge to any kitchen. The look is softened with the milky glass fronted mfc frames and opaque glazed centre panel.

Functionally, the benefit of this door style is enormous, the beauty of the design is that standard hinge cups can be used. Another useful feature is the top-box size which will operate with standard lifting systems.

The range offers a host of design opportunities with eight sizes available, including a tall 1245mm high door, as well as 797mm and 997mm wide options. Offering great storage potential, the styling will complement the majority of modern doors in PWS’ Second Nature range.

Burbidge’s Lansdowne Design Looks a Natural in Oak

The growing popularity of its Lansdowne Maple kitchen has led Burbidge to introduce a Natural Oak option in the same design.

The elegant modern design of the extra wide framed door and drawer frontals is complemented by the matt finish and character patterning of natural oak. The inherent tone variation and graining of the oak wood not only accentuates the lines of the frontals, it also means that every component is unique in appearance.

A kitchen of contradictions, Lansdowne combines curves with angles and contemporary design with an ancient decorative wood craft. One of three feature doors available to complement the solid framed frontals has inlaid marquetry detailing on the panels while the curved drawer fronts are a particularly distinctive feature of this design.

Not only can the curved drawers be used to add dramatic effect in the kitchen – whether to break up a run of units or to create a corner or island feature – but the design of these frontals makes them easy to fit. Burbidge has developed a simple filler piece which enables the 600mm and 800mm wide curved pan drawer frontals to fit onto standard carcasses.

There are two further feature doors available in this range; a contemporary door with a lattice panel that will add a point of differentiation to any kitchen design and a simple clear glass framed door. Additional matching accessories available with Lansdowne Natural Oak include veneered 50cm thick ‘floating’ shelving, 28mm end panels, cornice and light pelmet, a rounded extractor canopy and fashionably chunky square pilasters. New framed end panels can be used to create the look of freestanding furniture and a pre-oiled solid oak curved worktop is also available for use with the curved frontals. For the finishing touch, there’s a simple stainless steel square handle that effectively reflects the lines and angles of this kitchen.

Ben Burbidge, Managing Director, comments: ‘We believe that the popularity of the Lansdowne design, combined with an apparently insatiable consumer demand for oak, will make this a successful kitchen option for our customers. Lansdowne is a design that lends itself to the use of different woods. While the maple option will appeal to those consumers who prefer a sleek finish, the new oak option will appeal to those who want a more distinctive grained finish.'

Burbidge is a UK kitchen frontals and accessories manufacturer. For further information on the company’s range of wood, painted, foil wrap and metal frontals and accessories, please visit http://www.burbidge.co.uk or call 024 7667 1600. Pfleiderer's Decorative Panels

Pfleiderer Industrie's new decorative effects for 2005 are selected to appeal to prime users. 'Furniture manufacturers, interior designers, exhibition contractors and shop fitters benefit from Pfleiderer's recommended collections, each being readily available via regional distribution. Decors are either 'Wodego' melamine faced chipboard or 'Duropal' high pressure laminate.' says the company.

'Furniture manufacturers will appreciate the soothing tones of green and burgundy red in plain and fantasy decors. Combined with Pfleiderer's new beech heartwood or ebony, a homely yet elegant look is created. Dark woods and cream form a retro feel while soft, light wood effects offer a subtle finishing touch.

'Interior Design focuses on glowing red and earth tones, warm woods and stone
structures to make an engaging atmosphere in hotels, restaurants, commercial premises or even libraries.

'Shop fitting conveys a warm inviting mood with the emphasis on natural effects such as light and medium wood tones and grey stone. Used in combination with cream and sand shades they create an eye catching ambience. New wood effects such as bamboo and a strong beech grain add a graphic structure where required.

'Exhibition contractors
and stand designers need to make an impact fast. Pfleiderer's clear cut, cool colour range achieves this. Metallic blue tones work well with gleaming fantasy decors, slate, stone and metal effects. Prestige woods such as dark walnut offer an effective contrast.

'While there may be some cross over in to different sectors, Pfleiderer's trend research shows that these selected effects will perform well within their groups. These are new additions to Pfleiderer' s UK ranges.

New Large Single Bowl Addition to the Shonelle Ceramic Range

For those looking for a modern alternative to the traditional single bowl Belfast look, Carron Phoenix says the new Shonelle 105 is it.

Shonelle 105 re-interprets the classic popularity of ceramic with a sink that can be inset easily into a range of worksurface materials. With its larger than average square shaped bowl of 410 x 410mm, and generous sized drainer, it balances stylish good looks with practical ergonomics.

The Shonelle line up includes the single bowl 105 and the bowl and a half 150 models which can both be fitted into a standard 600mm cabinet. Shonelle’s mixture of classic styling with a contemporary twist gives it the design versatility for contemporary, classic and traditional kitchen styles alike. The traditional method of manufacturing from clay fired with a glaze at high temperature gives it a hard non-porous surface that’s easy to clean and is extremely resistant to heat and chemicals.

Beautiful Bamboo from PWS

PWS says that eco-friendly bamboo is set to become the new trend in timber worksurfaces. ‘Its distinctive grain creates an elegant pattern with natural warmth, which is not only unique but will complement any décor in the kitchen.

‘Bamboo is the most environmentally sound worksurface available. The fastest growing plant in the world (up to 1m in one 24-hour period), it is annually renewable. Plants harvested for PWS bamboo worksurfaces are strictly taken from the hundreds of bamboo species (China), which are not eaten by the panda.’

Following the recent launch of wenge, bamboo is the next introduction to the PWS worksurfaces collection. Offered in 2.4m lengths in blank form or up to 3m for bespoke schemes, a further benefit of this warm golden timber is its natural resistance to moisture ingress. The 40mm staved construction is carefully crafted to ensure strength and stability to the tops, providing a unique pattern to the surface with more variety of grain. Bespoke schemes include an extensive choice of edge profiles and cut-out options. Bamboo brings the number of Second Nature timber species to twelve.

Comments Philip Eeles, Worksurface Business Manager at PWS, ‘we are continually developing products that offer a point of difference for the designer, and bamboo comes hot on the heels of the launch of wenge worksurfaces.
Bamboo is a natural progression for us, a further example of how PWS is leading the field with interesting and exotic products, allowing designers greater flexibility to create inspiring and individual schemes.'

The Second Nature worksurface range also offers a bespoke service on other solid materials, including a wide selection of granite and composite stone finishes as well as stainless steel.
