Layers are the New ‘Look’ in the Kitchen says Orama

With its Ardesco range of worksurfaces, Orama, the independent manufacturer of worksurfaces and associated decorative products, says that it is bringing new ideas, style and innovation to the UK kitchen market. The growth of thicker 50mm worksurfaces and a new linear approach to kitchen design are supporting the emergence of new original settings in the most important room in any home.
Orama’s Ardesco range meets these requirements with thicker bold yet simple worksurface depths displaying solid chunks of colour. When combined with thinner natural materials or traditional 38mm depths, they can break up the kitchen into distinct sections while maintaining continuity in style.

The kitchen can be radically changed simply using the worksurface. In order to break up this one-dimensional space, designers are adding layers by either placing worksurfaces on top of or over-running one another. Such a layering effect provides added depth and more distinct work areas in the kitchen. It also gives an opportunity to mix and match worksurface thicknesses, colours and materials.

Orama advocates cross-sections of deeper 50mm worksurfaces, with acrylic edge for the ultimate modern look. The stainless steel acrylic edge finish from Orama’s Ardesco range offers a glint of industrial chic. The thick wedge shape offered by the 50mm depth provides a contrasting balance when positioned at right angles to the traditional worksurface. The full layer effect is achieved with the tight radius of Orama’s Profile 4, which gives a square leading edge typical of more expensive materials than normally found in laminates.

Orama’s Ardesco range of kitchen worksurfaces has been designed to reflect individual styles and tastes without compromising on functionality and durability. Incorporating new 50mm worksurfaces, silk finishes and a new mirror flat effect eliminating any ripple effects on its gloss laminates, the range allows customers to mix and match different colours or enhance their kitchen units and appliances with some interesting options. Comprising 24 laminates with natural, wood and granite effects, a solid beech worksuface, seven splashbacks and six composite modules, Ardesco is versatile enough to suit all living environments.

Orama offers high quality durable decorative panels and worksurfaces. Established for many years, Orama holds ISO 9001 certification and the Furniture Industry Research Association Gold Award for product performance. The company is also a corporate member of the KBSA (Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialist Association). All Orama’s chipboard and solid timber products are sourced from 'responsibly managed' forests.

PWS Powers Up with Clever Socket Port

PWS has introduced the Evoline socket, which offers a solution to bring power and telephone points to difficult situations. Suitable for island units and particularly areas that are awkward to access, the socket port provides a flexible and unobtrusive power supply. The semi-circular, retractable socket strip is simply drawn out of the worksurface as required, and when not in use is neatly concealed under the surface, together with the plugs and cables, preventing technical disruption and maintaining visual harmony. Alternatively the socket can be mounted in the base of a wall cabinet where the port is pulled downwards for access.

Already established in the kitchen industry on the continent, the module is compatible with computer and laptop connections for multimedia interfaces, lighting or telephones. Avoiding the need to channel into walls for wiring, it also reduces the number of sockets on view in the kitchen, creating a power solution when design and order are required.

Not only offering a solution for the kitchen environment, Evoline ports can be installed in bedrooms, offices, conference/meeting areas, boardrooms and hotels.

The Evoline range is available in two and three socket options with a choice of silver or stainless steel cover with matching collars. Choose from the port socket only or the port data which includes two network connections for telephone and internet access.

PWS Gets Fresh with New Light Oak Door Range

Fresh, light and natural are words that PWS says sum up Gullwing Oak, with the simple Gullwing styling creating a modern yet timeless look.

The modern theme is continued with wide drawers, clean lines and chunky end panels, giving a confident and contemporary edge. Chrome wire shelves and an imposing wine rack create a visual effect, which is complemented by a walnut breakfast bar and grey composite stone worksurface.

The light oak finish is well suited to co-ordinate with Gullwing Vanilla, mixing and matching doors between the ranges, or simply by using contrasting accessories, such as end panels and plinths.

Gullwing Oak brings the total number of finishes in the Gullwing door family to four, joining maple, vanilla and calvados.

Architecture Within the Kitchen

In the words of American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), 'form and function should be one', and in the opinion of Martin Gill, MD Poggenpohl UK, there is no better example of this than in the twenty-first century kitchen.

Martin Gill commented: 'Modern kitchens have come a long way from the much clichéd 'heart of the home'. No longer are they simply the centre of family domesticity but are increasingly a bold architectural statement within the home. Function is of course still paramount but never before has form been more significant, in terms of design, style, colour, shape and materials used.’

This sentiment is most evident in Poggenpohl's +Segmento in horizontal light oak with stainless steel - a design that was worthy of the prestigious 'Good Design Award' from the Architecture and Design Museum, 'The Chicago Athenaeum'.

The kitchen combines the uniformity of geometric design with the irregularity of nature in horizontally grained oak veneer, giving a modern take on a traditional theme without the drawbacks associated with using open grain or untreated wood.

The aluminium spacing around the door fronts allows for handle-less or recessed handle options creating smooth lines, while the flush-fitted 15mm thick work tops continue this arrangement by appearing to float above units, creating a contemporary yet elegant aesthetic.

Gill concluded: ‘Good design is not just about creating a visual experience. A superior kitchen design will also provide a sensual experience, not only through touch and use, but also from the special ambience it creates. Essentially, the architecture should be in tune with the people using it, to ensure that the preparation of food gives just as much pleasure as the eating of it.’

Bushboard Extends Prima Collection

Bushboard has added three new designs to its Prima collection. Introduced in response to research indicating a trend towards more natural tones; both Perlato Granite and Natural Block Walnut create the right look to mirror natural materials at a fraction of the cost.

Perlato Granite follows the vogue for lighter, more realistic natural stone effects. Worktops are available with both a textured finish and the improved wear resistant Glastex Gloss finish. Natural Block Walnut moves the Prima range into warmer, mid-toned woodgrain effects to contrast white or cream kitchen furniture.

The complete Prima collection offers retailers a comprehensive collection, with designs ranging from wood-effects and metallics through to realistic granite designs. Cost efficiency is a key feature of the Prima range with worktops available in either three or four metre lengths and Glastex Gloss at 3.6 metres. A range of coordinating Upstands and Splashbacks offers a total solution to designers and homeowners, allowing designs from the Prima collection to make a statement in the kitchen.

Martin Lowe, Business Development Manager at Bushboard, comments: ‘The new designs are an exciting addition to the range and reflect our commitment to the Prima collection. Prima now boasts an impressive number of designs, finishes and lengths to suit any kitchen. We expect the popularity of realistic natural-effect worktops to continue with these refreshing new designs.’

Ultimate Style and Performance - Orama Introduces Vesta, a Modular Solid Surface Solution

Orama, the independent manufacturer of worksurfaces and associated decorative products, has developed Vesta, a semi-bespoke solid surface solution as part of its recently launched Minerva range aimed at kitchen furniture manufacturers. Vesta solid worksurfaces include colour-co-ordinated sinks that can be tailored to suit individual kitchen designs.

Orama says that unlike other solid surfaces, Orama’s solution is as simple and easy to install as standard laminate products. This means that it is now possible to specify a solid surface with minimum effort and plan a kitchen in complete simplicity. Vesta worksurfaces can be rapidly made to order and are available as blanks with matching sink.

A high-end aspirational product, Vesta is non-porous and benefits from virtually inconspicuous joints. The worksurfaces are hard-wearing with high levels of heat resistance and no crazing, peeling or cracking. Colours are stylish and have been designed to complement a wide range of kitchen units and appliances.

Vesta worksurfaces are the result of an extensive programme of research and development combining design, durability, flexibility and functionality for any type of kitchen setting. They have undergone extensive tests in conjunction with Bangor University to demonstrate their resistance and outstanding strength.

'To date, these Minerva worksurfaces are the only ones of their kind available in the UK made from a material that is five times stronger than any other solid surface and that has been awarded FIRA gold.’ comments Peter Holt, sales and marketing director, Orama.

‘Vesta is the crowning glory of our research and expertise in solid surfaces. It makes the Minerva range the most comprehensive in the UK today. It also gives our customers more choice and more practical solutions than ever before.’

Minerva is Orama’s new range of versatile solid surface solutions that cater for every budget, ultimately offering a ‘good, better, best’ range. Other worksurfaces that are readily available include a choice of hard-wearing silk laminates, off-the-shelf economic solid surface Maia blanks, the newly developed Ophelia worksurface in a variety of standard design shapes and worksurface products, and Fortuna for the ultimate solid worksurface.
